A Grade Match Report: Round 4 v Glenunga

Round 4 presented another real opportunity on the road to continue to build. To continue to build you must continue to learn together, trust together and work together which is the very fabric of being UNITED  which is at the very core of our trademark.

The opening quarter provided a first look at the landscape , the energy was there, the pressure was there, the work rate was there and the brand visible in every way. Referencing is critical on every ground, especially when playing away from home. Our opponents used their home advantage early creating some scoreboard ascendency early with the margin out by just 7 points at the first break.

The second was different, we controlled the ball and the contest , with the likes of elite pressure from Jet Boxer, Josh Shute’s run and goal scoring off halfback and eventual best of ground performer Xavier Tranfa providing the finish for all of the hard work. Finn Wakelin was not to be denied as he exerted his presence time and time again which lifted not just his teammates but the strong crowd of supporters at the ground. A couple of turnover goals in red time at the siren left us in front by just 4 points at the main break.

Having built our game in the first half and with the trademark game back we headed into the third full of confidence and belief. The third was as brutal a quarter for the season , with the pressure rating off the charts, Beau Baldwin’s inside work continued along with all players, especially our back 6 all contributing giving us opportunities to drive deep inside 50 creating scoring opportunities resulting in a 23 point lead at the final break.

The final quarter was typical for so many away encounters. Our opponents were not going to be denied, turning the tables and playing the game in their front half for most of the final stanza. The pressure from us remained and when the opportunity presented some team lifting brilliance from Boxer and our captain in Stef Lanzoni we responded kicking the last three goals of the game running away with the win on the final siren by 23 points.

A ROCK SOLID performance from all 21 who pulled on the jumper today.

We will again review and learn as we look to our next game.

Final Score : ROCFC 13.7.85 defeated Glenunga 8.14.62

Goal Kickers: X. Tranfa 3, J. Shute 2, S. Lanzoni 2, J. Boxer 2, B. Baldwin 1, F. Wakelin 1, T. McCormack 1, C. Taheny 1

See you at the footy.

B Grade Match Report: Round 4 v Glenunga

Round 4 was about continuing to grow our connections. This week’s opponent had produced a couple of mixed results but sat around the same position on the ladder as us. Heading to Glenunga Oval can always be a challenge due to its unique shape, and knowing our opponent plays it well, we were ready to take up the challenge.

The first quarter started as a tight contest, with both sides challenging each other defensively. Halfway through the term we started to gain some control of the ball and kicked four goals in quick time to take a 15-point lead into the first break.

The second quarter was played very similarly to the first, except we weren’t able to put the score on the board. We hadn’t used the oval dimensions as well as we could have, but we still held a five-point lead going into the halftime break.

The third quarter seemed to go forever and our opponent’s talls started to dominate in the air, while we were beginning to lose some ground-ball contests across the ground. Despite this, we continued to work hard and were only four points down heading into the final quarter.

At the final break we addressed some of our fundamentals that had drifted and reinforced the need for the lads to continue believing in each other. We hit the front early in the quarter only for our opponent to regain the lead later on. The next eight minutes or so went scoreless, but our young group, led by a couple of senior players, stepped up and we kicked the winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

I could not have been prouder of the group. In the past, we may have ended up losing this type of game by three goals. The group continues to mature, and now another tough opponent awaits us at our home ground this week.

Final Scores: ROCs 8:10 (58) defeated Glenunga 7:14 (56)

Goal Kickers:   A. Ismail 2, T. Braford 2, A. Elhonsi 1, L. Rust 1, N. Thiessen 1, Z. Searle 1

C Grade Match Report: Round 4 v Glenunga

Round 4 takes the C grade to Glenunga Football club. Now, for those who don’t know where that is, just get onto Portrush Road, turn right onto Greenhill Road, past Burnside Village then take a left down the unique name of Conyngham Street and follow the road until you see the Football Club. Why am I explaining this? Well, some of the guys didn’t know where it was. Now you know.

After last week’s loss to Port Districts the team was keen to get back into the winners circle and back to playing quality ROC’s footy. We knew Glenunga had a good mix of old and youth in there side and always put their best foot forward when they come up against us.

Although the scoreboard favoured us well, we never really sat comfortable for the whole game. Glenunga challenged us at stoppage and with a solid game plan. To the teams credit we structurally held firm,  pressure on their ball carrier was really good and our effort never wavered.

Adam Greenwood had another game to remember. His work rate from contest to contest was outstanding and really set the tone around stoppages. The weather suited Adam’s game style and he took full advantage of it. Sam Warren had his best game for the year. His work rate off the ball was great and demonstrated real leadership around the contest and made the most of his opportunities with ball in hand. Fabian Di Lulio was dominate down back, could almost say the man had leather poisoning and set the backfield up really well which allowed Fabian to rebound from D50 quite nicely. Tommy Matsis was his usual self-running amuck in the midfield and even managed to slot through three goals if you don’t mind. Jayden Smith worked tirelessly up and down the wings all game. On what was a smallish deck Jayden was able to make space an find it too.

Final Score: ROC: 17.14. 114 defeated Glenunga: 06.03.39

Best Players: Adam Greenwood, Sam Warren, Fabian Di Lulio, Thomas Matsis, Jayden Smith

Goal Scorers: James McGuinness 3, Thomas Matsis 3, Adam Greenwood 2, Nick Karagich 2, Jack Platten 2, Mlahan Arslan 1, Adrian Bruno 1, Jordan Huppatz 1, Jayden Smith 1, Will Thomas 1

D Grade Match Report: Round 4 v Golden Grove

Rocs Academy hosted Golden Grove in the early timeslot at the Quarry (CMO) in Rd 4.

The Kookaburras were relentless with run & great field positioning,  constantly moving forward with plenty of opportunities in their forward 50, Rocs were chasing jumpers and second to the contested ball and were very lucky that GGrove were stymied by inaccurate shots on goal. Rocs began to create forward opportunities but could not find the goals and were well behind as the first quarter break. 1/4 time scores Rocs 0-3 (3) vs Golden Grove 1-6 (12)

Rocs reset our game plan and linked up well to create some excellent team play, gaining momentum around the ground and finishing off the hard work to control general play and storm into the lead, however the Kookaburras did enough to stay in the contest at the long break.

1/2 time scores Rocs 4-4 (28) vs Golden Grove 3-6 (24)

The second half had plenty of highlights with Rocs taking advantage around the ground & producing some ruthless defending to set up constant forward entries.

Rocs forward line worked extremely well together to take maximum advantage of our momentum and cruised to a magnificent 37pt victory.

Final Score: Rocs 10-10 (70) defeated Golden Grove 4-9 (33)

Goalkickers: P. Norris 2, C. Simile 2, J. Thoday 2, T. Grant 1, C. Pietrafesa 1, Wieu Kuach 1, J. Scutella 1.

E Grade Match Report: Round 4 v Golden Grove

Great day for the “EJECTS” and or “The Entertainment” as our stocks continue to grow and we debut Tom Jonas and Chris Ash and they didn’t disappoint.

GG haven’t won a game in 2 years, and it showed. In slippery conditions we started well kicking 1 goal 7 behinds in the first 10 minutes.

3 injuries in the first 10 minutes Boffa and Moten (drivers) and Henry Warren (hammy),left the bench a bit sparse. Wayne Gowens stepped up with more game time and tried hard.

Jack Hill led the way in the middle with his best game thus far, strongly supported by Tim Lewis who continues his medal winning form.

Holm and Jonas started up forward but decided to rotate through the middle and were excellent.

Massie should have kicked 5,but lack of training wore him out, and Bridgy continued to provide us options all around the ground.

Again the back line was the rock with McGuiness having his best game of the year. We allowed 2 late junk goals which was the only blemish.

Mezzini gave us plenty of run off his wing and pretty much all played well.

A huge block of footy ahead playing all the top teams in the next month. This Saturday 1 vs 4 at Modbury oval 10.15am.

We look forward to our team launch on June 20 when we play Walkerville at home in a twilight match in front of the whole club.

Final Scores: Rostrevor 23-22-160 defeated Golden Grove 2-4-16

Best Players: Jack Hill, Craig Holm, Tim Lewis, Chris Ash & Tom Jonas

Goal Kickers: Holm 4, Jonas 4,Holland 3, Massie 3, Hill 2, Bridge 2, Ash 2, Moten, Cream, Mezzini 1 each.

We’ve got a lot of more to come.
