A Grade Match Report: Round 16 2025 v SHOC

Saturday was another critical game and an opportunity on the road.  Conditions were again perfect for football and the deck fast.

The opening quarter was brutally contested. Our opponents clearly had an agenda to slow the play and work from contest to contest. The game was worked between the arcs with both sides winning their fair share inside ball. The back 6 stood firm lead by Darci Best holding our opponents to just three points and a slender margin of just 4 points at the break.

The second proved more of the same. The tackling was fierce across the quarter with both sides gaining some momentum at various stages going goal for goal. Ryan Lymn and James Warton along with Elliot Murada  began to lift their dominance around stoppage , driving deep inside 50 where Tom McCormack, Tom Bradford and Finn Wakelin were getting busy and looking dangerous. The margin at the main break remaining at 4 points.

We knew with an increase in our run and carry the game would break open. We kicked the opening goal of the third and gained that scoreboard pressure we were chasing. Again the contest was hard and tough inside, our ball movement challenged our opponents, and we began to play the game in our front half finishing on the siren 14 points ahead.

The game finally broke open in the final as we gained control of the contest. Repeat entry after repeat entry gave us opportunities to score which we took kicking away in the final scene with a five goal burst which pushed the margin out to a game high 38 points on the final siren.

A tremendous win on the road with 21 valuable contributors across a finals like 4 quarters of football.

We again look to learn and build toward our next challenge.

B Grade Match Report: Round 16 2025 v SHOC

We came into Round 15 with our focus and theme on “Having Fun”. We built this week around continuing to learn from what we do well, whilst striving to be brave in each and every moment.

We had our opportunities in the first quarter against a quality side that had only lost one game for the year - but we did not capitalise on them, and although we had 5 scoring shots to 2, we found ourselves 7 points down at the first break.

In the second quarter we had some excellent early pressure from our young side, and we moved the ball into our forward line. Unfortunately we struggled to score, and with a string of injuries adding to our woes we trailed by 7 goals at half time.

The last half of footy was disappointing and not indicative of how we have played as a team for the season to date. We were outplayed convincingly by a stronger, high-quality side. To the boys’ credit they fought on, and even though we were left with no bench and a few players on the field playing with discomfort they continued to do their best. This week it just wasn’t enough.

It was a tough loss for the boys and the coaching team, but our focus is on from this result and our opposition, resetting and focussing on the last two games of the year to finish strongly. We know we are a better side than last Saturday showed – and we will regroup and get back to playing our ruthless brand of football.

Final Scores: ROCs 1.6.12 defeated by SHOC 18.13.121

Best Players: S. Hearn, J. Butterworth, H. Myall, S. Greenslade, I. Crafter

Goal Kickers:   J. Cavuoto 1

C Grade Match Report: Round 16 2025 v SHOC

SHOC are top in C1 and at home they were always going to be a major challenge.

The game proved to be a very even contest, played between the arcs for most of the day with both sides creating good opportunities but not maximising them.

Some key undisciplined acts cost us free kicks and then additional 25m penalties which equated to 3 goals and in the end that was the difference in the result in the end. This is a real focus area for us on the way home.

Credit to Sacred Heart, they used the ball much better and hit targets consistently, uncharacteristically we continually turned the ball over when not under pressure just missing simple targets which cost us in transition.

The pleasing thing from a coaching perspective is that we were able to make some changes in the second half which will help with our structure and shape for the balance of the year.

Nick Karagich was a dominant player all day for us. Cookey was effective in the ruck and around the ground until he went down with a falcon late in the second term. Fair to say when Max Aufderheide went into the ruck late in the third and in the last our whole clearance dynamic changed, and we will build on this for the balance of the year. Tom Matsis and Harvey Wilson have been consistent performers in the second half of the year and continued that on the weekend. Lots of players had moments for most of the day, we just need all to stay in the game no matter what the game flow.

We get back to work on the track, knowing that with players returning over the next 2 weeks, competition for positions will be intense and focus on training and game day performance and executing the role for the team at the forefront of minds.

Final Scores: ROCS 8.11.59 defeated by SHOC 11.12.78

D Grade Match Report: Round 16 2025 v Port Districts

Rocs Academy hosted Pt. Districts in a crucial early morning match up with 4th position on the table to the winner.

Magnificent conditions at Roc Park to start the contest with Rocs taking advantage of contested possessions finding plenty of run and created several forward plays & soon had 2 goals on the scoreboard.

Some additional forward entries were not converted with Rocs controlling play before Pt. District seized onto a turnover and quickly went coast to coast with ease booting the goal and taking complete control of the game with damaging runs from defence. With Rocs chasing jumpers the 1/4 time break sounded to stop the rampant Pt. District from creating more damage.

1/4 time score Rocs 2-3 vs Pt. District 5-1.

Rocs regrouped & reset from the break , worked harder around contested possessions and with some excellent teamwork used the ball effectively to control play. Rocs defensive line was relentless in their efforts and became impassable holding District scoreless but our forward set up could not convert the many opportunities created by the half time siren.

1/2 time score Rocs 4-7 vs Pt. District 5-1.

The 3rd qtr was a tough struggle with both sides striving to create advantage around the ground. The dour tussle continuing through the qtr as the momentum and lead changed many times.

3/4 time score Rocs 5-10 vs Pt District 6-3.

With the match on the line it was Pt. District running hard once again but a disappointing Rocs were no longer able to apply the pressure needed and were unable to stop the momentum as Pt. District cruised to the win.

Final score Rocs 5.11.41 defeated by Pt. District 9.5.59
