A Grade Match Report: Round 15 2025 v SPOC
We had spoken in the lead up to Saturday of the importance of managing moments. Experience can assist in identifying the situations that present, managing them as a collective to secure the outcome is what we continue to work towards.
Conditions were perfect for football and a fast start at front of mind. The opener set the tone with both sides wrestling between the arcs to gain the ascendancy. Defensively we held firm . Darci Best was dominant early taking telling intercept marks across half back. Whilst the conditions offered a fast deck the play was contested and defensive. We headed into the first break behind by 7 points.
The second proved to be more of the same, however our dominance in the air was becoming more and more evident with Charlie Kemp , Tom McCormack, Finn Wakelin and Jett Boxer all imposing themselves on the game. With goals at a premium given the defensive pressure from both sides our composure going inside became critical and managing the opportunities we created. The main break told the tale of the first half with a one point deficit separating the sides.
A real commitment at the main break to lift our intensity, maintain trust in the system and build the scoreboard set the tone for the third. It started at the source with James Warton, Josh Shute and Xavier Tranfa getting their hands on the ball inside creating opportunities on the outside for the likes of Ryan Lymn and Connor Butcher to drive and lock the ball in our front half. At the siren we had built a 5 point lead.
It was not lost on the group at the final break of the importance of the next 30min. A home game with huge support from the ROC’s faithful the scene was set. The message was simple “ win the quarter win the game “. The opening three minutes we went goal for goal and the tone clearly set for a close finish. Charlie Kemp lifted marking everything that came his way, Warton’s clearance game went to a new level along with some elite ball use from Josh Shute and Tom McCormack managed some crucial moments. While there were highlights it’s was the belief and willingness of all 21 to manage the moments and play to the end that gave us the edge to run out winners by 7 points at the final siren.
We now look to reflect, learn and move onto next week.

B Grade Match Report: Round 15 2025 v SPOC
We came into Round 15 with our focus and theme on “Success”. We built this week around continuing to learn from what we do well, whilst striving to be brave in each and every moment.
Once again, we started the match well - our style and brand were on show. It was pleasing that players who got an opportunity to come into the side started strongly as well. Whilst the scores were even at quarter time we certainly were playing well against a solid opposition.
In the second quarter we had several opportunities to break the game open but let our opposition in towards the end of the quarter to be up by only 5 points at half time.
During the third quarter it was an arm wrestle, and we had more scoring shots than our opponent. Unfortunately, we stopped moving the ball and taking the game on – we looked flat and nervous which allowed St Peters to take a narrow 3-point lead into three quarter time.
We needed to take the game on again in the last quarter, and in parts we certainly were brave and gave a great effort. But at crucial times our opposition showed their composure as a quality side and finished a little better than us on the day to win the game by 9 points.
We spoke after the game that we come up against good sides week in and week out and that we are not far away from that level. St Peters has only lost 3 games for the year, and we couldn’t fault the effort from our young side.

C Grade Match Report: Round 15 2025 v SPOC
It was great to be back at the Quarry and in fine conditions for August the lads were keen to put in a good showing.
With lots of changes and players returning we took a couple of quarters to really gel but after half time the footy was exhilarating. After half time we kicked 16.5 to 1.2 in what was clearly the best and most synchronised F1 team footy all year.
Whilst the scoreboard reflects a dominate result, it was the way we went about it was most pleasing for the coaching staff and supporters alike.
Our defensive unit was well structured and led by Fabes, Silk Auf and Brad Warren, ably supported by Harvey Wilson, Hamish Scheid, Daniel Leonard and Trippa. They must be acknowledged for their solidarity and transition set up particularly considering the personnel missing.
Whilst we weren’t as dominate in centre clearances, our second stoppage contest work was solid and our ball use and entry inside 50 was very good. Aside from Kara who was dominant at CHF and Maximus Meridius Aufderheide who was dangerous one on one, 6 out of the 9 rotating Mids all kicked goals with Tom Matsis with 5 and Sam Warren 4 as stand outs in finishing.
Anton Slivak gave us a demonstration in how to play wing in positioning, ball use and decision making and in the third quarter set up 3 goals and kicked one himself. As he Dad said on Saturday night, if we could keep his feet more regularly, he could be anything, but never as good as Pedro.
Well done to Tommy Grant who was our Player Barometer this week and led by example with energy and passion, now to continue that for the balance of the year.
We now move our focus to continuing to play good footy against what will be a great challenge away at SHOC this week.
Thanks to Dean Lord for standing in as Team Manager whilst Tim Draper was off in the caravan enjoying a romantic weekend away. Thanks also to my wife Stella for recording the goal kickers for the morning.

D Grade Match Report: Round 15 2025 v SHOC
Rocs on the road taking on eternal rivals & 2nd on the ladder SHOC , with a late lineup change & last minute venue switch just adding to the tense pregame nerves.
Both sides were relentless in their attack on the contest from the first bounce with SHOC holding a slight advantage in general play. Rocs working overtime with pressure around the ground were soon back in the contest and played with better teamwork to hold a slight advantage at 1/4 time.
1/4: time score Rocs 2-2 vs SHOC 2-1.
The second stanza developed into a dour tussle with both defensive units under constant pressure and any forward opportunities were quickly shutdown. Rocs did create some great forward opportunities but could not kick the goals needed to gain scoreboard pressure.
1/2 time score Rocs 2-5 vs SHOC 3-2.
The Rocs were relentless during the second half of the contest and worked together to create many turnover opportunities & with some great run & carry teamwork used the footy effectively to boot a super successful 7 goals 0 behinds and despite a few fluent challenges from a desperate SHOC fighting hard to stay in touch Rocs did create enough momentum to stay in front for a great team win...
Final score ROCS Academy 9.5.59 defeated SHOC 7.7.49
