A Grade Match Report: Round 6 v Flinders Park

Each week there is always a focus on improvement. Of course, that’s easy to say and talk about it’s another to execute. There are so many factors in our game that have an impact one obviously being the opposition and what they bring.

Focus on improving requires a real belief in the process. From the first bounce on Saturday as a collective you could sense the belief, the engagement, and the selfishness our players went about crafting the game. It was a fast start taking our opportunities in front of goal , but the quarter was not all our own way. Our opponents challenged us at centre bounce and stoppage giving them a start that they would have been comfortable at the first break.

The second was an arm wrestle around the ground with our back 6 providing a wall of defence that was pleasing and inspiring to the side. While our back 6 kept our opposition out our midfield had adapted to the challenges of the first quarter and began to gain the ascendancy. Our mid forward connection and ball movement began to flow with more efficiency, something we have been searching for as a side and we went into the main break 18 points ahead.

After halftime we lifted again across the ground, with our key forwards controlling the air, our mids getting to work inside and our back 6 were relentless holding our opponents goalless in the third and it wasn’t until the 11min mark of the final quarter that they recorded their next goal. In the end we ran out the game with a pleasing 42-point win.

There were stand out performances across the game, with a special mention to our entire back 6 who continue to grow as a unit. Best on ground honours went to Tyson “ The Accumulator” , who was everywhere all day, creating opportunities from the inside and working hard on the outside to create. Cam Ball was enormous across Half back all day and led the back 6 from the front whether it be intercepting or contest he controlled the air for 4 quarters.

We were fortunate to have Tom McCormack back into the side this week and he didn’t disappoint. A lazy 6 up ahead on the key post, he was unstoppable both in the air and on the ground. And then there was Finn Wakelin , who for those that have been at our games this season have witnessed the emergence of a genuine talent. While playing second fiddle to the key post he imposed himself in the air and on the ground kicking a career high 4 goals. Speaking of emerging talents Damon Stepic is crafting an outstanding season in defence and soundly held his opponents all day and created many defensive half movements with the pose of a veteran.

A pleasing game but one we must also learn from and look ahead to next week.

B Grade Match Report: Round 6 v Flinders Park

We started the game well winning clearances even though their ruckman was playing well, our defence quickly went into action repelling their entries in the first quarter and setting up transition footy into our forward line. Even though we kept Flinders Park goalless in the first half we felt that we left a bit on the table with many forward entries going unrewarded from a scoreboard point of view.

In the second half our defence continued to play well as a collective, Hugo Shute and Jackson Petty leading the way – we lost Jackson Thomas late in the second half to cracked ribs replacing him with Peter Vorrasi who played an excellent second half in the back pocket.

Our mids were also consistent all game Dylan Reinbrecht and El Murada were great plus Ben Spehr up forward kicked another 3 goals he also had some time in our mids and performed well.

It was great to see Matt Dnistrainsky play well after a year off – he ended being our “swing man” starting on the wing then going into defence when we lost Jackson Thomas then playing a role up forward in the second half.

Also, the Bradford’s Tom and Josh second half was terrific – and as mentioned before our defence play extremely well all match.

Good to see Luca Stepic kick 3 – I’m sure there is more coming from him in the coming weeks.

Final Score: ROCs 15-12 (102) defeated Flinders Park 3-4 (22)

Best Players – Jackson Petty, Dylan Reinbrecht, El Murada, Ben Spehr, Mat Dnistrainsky.

C Grade Match Report: Round 6 v Flinders Park

Flinders Park made the trek to Campbelltown oval to take on our C grade team. The performance from the boys was clinical from start to finish, defeating Flinders Park by 158 points. It was an overall terrific performance from every player within the team. The grit and determination from the boys were phenomenal throughout the entirety of the match. In games like this one, it can be very easy to become selfish. I was very proud of the fact that we had 12 individual goal kickers for the day which shows our selflessness and ability to continue playing as a team.

The goals were led by Dylan Matthews and Olly Piro who kicked 4 goals each. Their efforts were followed up by Lewis Matsis, Luca Piantadosi and Felix Brasher who all kicked 3 goals each.

The boys in middle set the tone all day, led by Max Aufderheide who played his first game for us this year. He was strong in the ruck all day and deservedly was one of our best players this week. Jarryd Ball also got his first minutes in the midfield for the year and took the role with both hands. Adam Greenwood, Ky Haddad, and Ameer Elhosni showed their class, proving to be too good for Flinders Park.

We will look to continue our strong run of form as we move forward, coming up against a couple of stronger teams towards the top of the table. No doubt every player within the C grade look forward to cementing themselves part of one of the best teams in the competition.

D Grade Match Report: Round 6 v Prince Alfred OC

Rocs on the road travelling to Adelaide's Parklands with a great chance to continue our winning streak challenging fierce rivals PAOC.

The first half of the match produced a closely contested, fast paced game as both sides tried to take advantage on the scoreboard.  Great defensive effort from both combatants made sure that clear shots on goal were very hard to create. Fortunately, Rocs were able to hold on to a small lead as the halftime siren sounded. 1/2-time score - Rocs 2-5 vs PAOC 1-7.

The 3/4 stanza produced our team's worst effort of the season so far, as Princes applied great pressure & more intensity to the ball carrier. Rocs players & officials were frustrated by the decisions being called, totally losing concentration to play team football had PAOC take the biggest lead in the game holding a 11pt advantage at 3/4 time. 3/4-time score - Rocs 3-5 vs PAOC 4-10.

With a massive challenge to regroup & play with teamwork our team were magnificent under extreme pressure and with unselfish play forced our way back into the contest , taking the lead late in the game as our defensive effort increased to hold Princes at bay. Rocs winning a thrilling & heavily contested encounter by 2pts.
