A's B's C's vs Goody Saints & D's vs Golden Grove

All 4 sides were beaten on the weekend.

D Grade Report

The D's hosted Golden Grove, and were in the game up to 3 quarter time, trailing by 4 goals. The last quarter saw the margin stretch out to  62 points.

Final scores: 8.5 to 17.13. Luke Skoblyk was our best. Nick Bartold continues to play good footy. Fergus Shanahan was impressive, as were Matt Sauer, Jeremy O'Leary and Lawson Nitschke.

Tyler Gava kicked 3 goals, and Tom Carpinelli was named Best Team Man.

Stevo "Super-coach" Edwards will be desperate for a ROCS win this week, when they travel to Largs Reserve to play Port District.

C Grade Report

The C grade played the early game at Goodwood on Saturday, and was defeated 5.7 to 11.14. Whilst coach Mark Twiggs would have been satisfied with the players' effort, the team was beaten by a better line-up on the day.

Tom Matsis had another very good game. He was constructive all day, and was best on ground for the ROCS. John McCarron tried valiantly, as did Max Lawrance and Dan Franzon. Riley Slack (3 goals) was also high in the list of best players. Max McKay was the Best Team Man.

The team will be looking forward to the return of several players, and to getting back to winning form this week, when they play the 10.15 a.m. game against Adelaide University, at the Campbelltown Memorial Oval.

B Grade Report

The B's battled hard but were eventually defeated by Goodwood Saints : 2.7 to 7.12. Henry Tregoweth again played very well. Elliot Shirley was strong and reliable.

Hayden Swanbury has had a remarkably consistent season and was good again on Saturday. Harry Simpson and Zac Noonan are two others who have rarely been out of the best players and were impressive again on the weekend. Sam DuBois rucked tirelessly all day.

The B grade desperately needs a win this week against Uni.

A Grade Report

After the euphoria of last week's win, the A's struggled all day to get their game going, and lost to Goodwood: 7.7 to 8.20 (Half Time : 3.5 to 3.13).

Sam Jonas was excellent again. Skipper James Jordan was very good. Murphy Short has slotted in well and was an important contributor. Anthony McCarthy , Kieran Holland and vice-captain Dan McCallum all played well. The team now needs to rebound and consolidate its spot in the five, with a home win against Uni this Saturday.

Unfortunately, Craig Holm was injured in his 150th appearance for the club. We all wish "Holmy" a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the track as soon as possible.

As mentioned in last week's report,

Craig's on field record for ROCS is second to none :

  • 5 times Best and Fairest,
  • 2 x Division 1 premierships (2013, 2017),
  • Best on Ground medals in both Grand Final victories.
  • SAAFL Division 1 medallist in 2013 and 2014,
  • State representative for 3 seasons.
  • 5 times SAAFL Team of the Year.

Off the field he has been a great role-model, preparing  himself professionally for every match/season.

The 2020 season is quickly coming to an end, and all grades are running out of time to win enough games to play finals.

We again encourage all ROCS followers to come out and support the Red and Black this weekend.
