A Grade Match Report: Round 17 v Edwardstown

Our final home game and yet another opportunity for the playing group to execute against an opponent searching for their first win for the season.

Priding ourselves on a fast start in the first quarter we kicked the game off with a 4.4 scoreboard which in many respects set the scene for the game. Our opponents were hunting the ball and showed signs they had improved from our earlier encounter.

Best on ground performer Sam Buckham took hold of the contest in the middle of the ground punishing our opponents from stoppage time and time again which created countless entries enabling the game to be played in our front half for the second quarter and keeping our opponents goalless. We went into the main break 32 points ahead.

After the main break we again peppered the scoreboard having a further 9 shots on goal resulting in 4.5 conversion from strong forward craft from our fleet of smalls and led by talls in Finn Wakelin and Luca Stepic. Our ball movement during the quarter was placed under pressure from the opposition who had started to run in waves. The final break we had extended the lead to 41 points.

The final quarter resembled an old style shoot out with both sides carving through each sides team defences with each kicking 5 goals in a lacklustre end to the contest, which saw us finish the game 44 points ahead.

Including best on ground performer in Sam Buckham, there were standout performances from Will Mead off half back, Finn Wakelin kicking another bag, Josh Bradford’s run and pressure was outstanding for four quarters and Connor Butcher was composed and clean all day.

A game we will definitely learn from as we head into the final game for the minor round.

Final Score : ROCFC 17.17 (119) defeated Edwardstown 11.9 (75)

Goal kickers: F. Wakelin 4, L. Stepic 3, J. Bradford 2, T. Walls 2, M. Dnistriansky 2, S. Lanzoni 2, P. Dawson 1, B. Baldwin 1

B Grade Match Report: Round 17 v Edwardstown

A good solid win where we played to the systems very well.

We started well but in the second half we hit the scoreboard kicking 12-10 to Edwardstown 2-0 running out 83-point winners.

Matthew Brown was dangerous all day up forward kicking 4 goals – supported by Fergus Kernahan kicking two goals plus his work in the mids was good.

El Murada also played well in the mids and kicked two goals as well. Max Daw also continues his good form with other solid performance.

As mentioned, many times this year again our defence held up well especially in the second half again led by Jackson Petty and Stuart Greenslade.

Our mids were  good with Dylan Reinbrecht, and Tom Bradford winning a lot off the ball. We also welcomed Jimmy McGuiness and Paddy Baldwin from overseas.

We finish the minor playing Modbury at Modbury.

C Grade Match Report: Round 17 v Edwardstown

A strong ROCS C grade team took on Edwardstown this week. Our recent trends of slow starts continued; however the win was very comprehensive from the ROCS boys.

Edwardstown were competitive in the first quarter. Despite our dominance in possession we couldn’t show it effectively on the scoreboard and our efficiency going inside 50 hurt our scoreboard pressure.

The second quarter was relatively similar to the first. Our midfield stepped up though with Josh Massie leading from the front with 9 clearances himself in the first half. Amer and Ky were also instrumental with their pressure laying multiple tackles each.

We went into the half time break wanting to focus on composure and wanting to show our dominance on the scoreboard. ROCS players to this fully onboard and kept Edwardstown to only 2 points in the second half. We piled on 5.6 in the third quarter.

We kicked another 6 goals and 3 behinds in the fourth quarter to finish the match. It was pleasing to see 11 different goal scorers for the game which was led by Luca with 4 goals and Jordan Huppatz with 3 goals.

We now look forward to Modbury who are the top of the table in the C grade. This match will be a good indicator as to how far we can take our run into finals.

Final Scores: ROCs 19.14 (128) defeated Edwardstown 4.5 (29)

Goal kickers: L. Piantadosi 4, J. Huppatz 3, L. Matsis 2, D. Matthews 2, H. Brasher 2, A. Elhosni 1, T. Matsis 1, J. Scutella 1, A. Whitehead 1, H. Wilson 1, M. Aufderheide 1.

Bests: J Massie, A. Elhosni, J Scutella, K Haddad & L Piantadosi

D Grade Match Report: Round 17 v Tea Tree Gully

Rocs on the road travelling to Tea Tree Gully this week, on a fantastic day for football. Top of the table Gullies with their only loss for the season a 3pt nail-biting defeat to the Rocs in Rd 8, have been playing a dominant style of football this campaign & are always setting the standard in our grade.

The contest started with a fired up & focused Gullies streaming forward to create many attacking plays on goal, linking up with each other to run all over the Rocs & applied scoreboard pressure with countless attempts on goal.

Rocs defensive efforts have been a massive positive for our team this year and were constantly under extreme pressure to stop the Gullies attacking moves. Rocs pressure around contested possession kept us in the game, producing some scrambled forward movement with no fluency and most of the time coughed the ball up just as we were in a good position to score, however Rocs desire kept us in the game producing enough forward movement to keep us within touch of the dominant Gullies during the 1st half. 1/2-time score - Rocs 3-7 vs TTGully 5-5.

The second half of the contest was all TTGully as they ran & spread with great teamwork and skilful execution to take complete control of proceedings. Rocs powerless to stop the momentum created, still battled hard & never gave up the fight until the final siren sounded with Gullies booting 8-8 to an outclassed Rocs Academy 1-4 in the last half of the game.

Final scores:  Rocs 4-11 defeated by TTGully 13-13.

Goalkickers - L. Tripodi -1, A. Davis -1, C. Brasher -1, D. Leggett -1.

Best players - B. Warren, H. Smith , L. Tripodi , L. Nitschke, C. Brasher, J. Munchenberg.

Best team man- A. Davis.
