A Grade Match Report: Round 15 v Flinders Park
Coming in this week we knew there was a lot at stake as playing well on the road has been a large focus for us this season.
The first quarter was an arm wrestle with both sides winning passages of momentum with our opponents taking their opportunities in front of goal kicking 5 straight and taking a 9-point lead into the first break.
We reset ourselves at the break and with a focus on our work rate and greater composure with ball in hand and managed to control the game for the quarter regaining the lead into the main break by 4 points. Our opponent’s appetite for the contest was evident as while we had control their pressure was definitely a factor.
An adjustment was required at the main break not just to the conditions and oval referencing but also as we had lost James Butterworth to an injury which sent him to the bench for the remainder of the game. Third quarters in recent weeks have been our best output Qtrs and today was the same. While we were challenged at stoppage our back 6 provided plenty of support with countless defensive transitions creating numerous entries and opportunities which unfortunately we weren’t able to capitalise on, missing 4 set shots on goal. The final break had us out by 5 points.
The final quarter wasn’t our finest by a long stretch, despite the effort and intent we were out worked from the first centre bounce. Our opposition lifted their work rate after kicking the opening goal of the quarter and taking a marginal lead. We continued to battle but lost shape in and around contest providing exits to goal which our opponents took, running away with the game by 14 points.
Players who battled manfully all day included Tom O’Malley who was clearly our best for the day. Kane Cini who battled with some air sickness during the first controlled their most dangerous forward in a fine game. Stef Lanzoni was potent up forward kicking three and creatively assisting in a number of others for the day. Josh Shute and Sam Buckham both provided constant drive through the middle of the ground all day to round out the best for the afternoon.
Disappointing to not get the job done, but as always, we must learn and move on to next week.

B Grade Match Report: Round 15 v Flinders Park
Flinders Park started the game well with the wind, but I feel our defence held up well and to be up at quarter time we were happy with that result.
But from then on, the game was an arm wrestle with neither side taking control of the game. We were up at three quarter time, but we could not get our game together at all in the last and end up been defeated by 11 points which was a disappointing result.
Hugo Shute led the defence admirably with good support from Jackson Petty, Stuart Greenslade and Riordan McNamara.
El Murada who has been acting Captain these last few weeks played well, Jabob Scutella and Harry Wright played well on their wings and Dylan Reinbrecht was serviceable in the mids.
Max Daw is getting better each week, which is good to see as he is a very important to our side going forward.
Olly Piro started in forward half, ended playing a fantastic roll in defence until he coped a knock to the jaw.
A disappointing result for this time of the year, but we are confident there is improvement to come!
Final Scores ROCS 5.7 (37) defeated by Flinders Park 7.6 (48)
Best – Hugo Shute, Jackson Petty, El Murada, Harry Wright, Dylan Reinbrecht.

C Grade Match Report: Round 15 v Flinders Park
The C grade is tracking along nicely towards with another win against Flinders Park. To their credit, Flinders Park started off strong kicking the first 2 goals of the game. They managed to stop our run and carry early turning the game into a scrappy contest. Our boys responded well, clawing back to kick 4 goals in a row to take back the league in the first quarter.
The tight contest continued in the second quarter allowing Sam Warren and Josh Massie to lay plenty of tackles. Both teams were able to kick a goal despite the wind making difficult for players to apply their skills.
The second half was almost a completely different game. Sam Hearn was a major factor in the match and lead the charge in overcoming Flinders Park. Rostrevor were able to use their running power and speed to take away the game from Flinders. Luca Piantadosi was the main beneficiary kicking multiple goals. Pete ‘Pistol’ Sianis also chipped in kicking 2 goals himself.
ROCS went into the last quarter leading by 32 points. The boys continued their strong momentum and held Flinders to 3 points in the final term.
This week highlighted our team’s ability to recover from slow starts and really take control of the game with our speed and carry. We’ll take the end result of winning by 44 points and look forward to the last couple rounds before finals. All aboard the C train!

D Grade Match Report: Round 15 v Prince Alfred Old Collegians
Rocs at home this week needing to bounce back from a bruising loss hosting long time rivals PAOC with a thrilling 2pt margin in Rocs favour the result earlier in the season. As both sides are desperate to finish the minor rounds in a Top-3 position the pressure was hovering over the Rocs Academy .
A fired up & focused Rocs started the match with positive teamwork and quickly moved the ball into attack with our forward line working together producing some of our most fluent attacking plays this campaign. Rocs stormed into the lead as our backline held Prince's at bay & quickly created many turnovers into attacking forward entries with superior ball movement finding the right option to keep the scoreboard ticking over. 1/4 time score - Rocs 6-0 vs PAOC 1-1.
As expected Prince's started to work harder & increased their attack on contested possession with ROCs losing momentum as a more dour game developed. Rocs did enough hard work to even out the scoring holding on to a positive lead at the long break. 1/2 time score - Rocs 7-1 vs PAOC 2-2.
The second stanza had Roc's powering away from PAOC with a thrilling style of teamwork involving run & carry attacking plays from coast to coast even earning the "champagne football" call from the supporters watching on. Rocs finished the game with plenty of highlights to reflect on and our focus to end the season with a positive ladder position.
