A Grade Match Report: Round 16 v Old Ignatians
Over the course of the year we have constantly worked as a group on learning to get better every week. We realise this is an important part of every training session, every game of every season. Another extremely important element we continue to work through is adapting to what presents. Losing one of our key players in the hour prior to the game was such a situation. We needed to adapt.
The Milestone for a club legend in Tom O’Malley in his 200th game for the club was not lost on the playing group as we headed into the game.
We had trained during the week on focus elements from our review of our previous games and one of these was a fast start. The opening quarter Saturday the energy, the hunt for the contest and the speed of ball movement was clearly evident with the players delivering a five-goal burst in the opener. We had contributions across the ground in a different set up to the side, so we had adapted.
With the work still ahead of us for the remaining quarters we respected and knew our opponents would respond and that they did. The second was an arm wrestle with both sides gaining momentum for stages during the quarter but we remained composed and went into the main break ahead by 29 points.
Resetting we pushed hard in the third creating numerous opportunities to build our scoreboard ascendancy but our polish in front of goals eluded us with a 2.5 output for the quarter leaving the margin at 26 points at the final break.
Continuing our brief to “Play to the end “, the players again went to work in the final quarter with our trademark Rock Solid pressure lifting and our polish returning to kick away with four straight to push the final margin out to a game high 37 points on the siren.
The game produced contributions from all 21 players. Special mentions include the 200-game veteran in Tommy O who lead the back 6 all day . And an extra special mention to Jackson Thomas who had answered the call at the first break in the B Grade to come into the side late, finishing the day having played 5 quarters of absolute “Team First “ “ Rock Solid” football.
Best on ground Honors went to Paddy Dawson who created offensive movements at will all day in an outstanding display. Closely following Paddy was Sam Buckham who now looks firmly at home in the side. His burst from contest and strong aggressive play was a feature. Beau Baldwin continued his rich vein of form inside and up forward where he kicked two majors and provided countless assists. Damon Stepic continues to grow in confidence before our eyes. Defensively he was outstanding today. And Kain Cini moving out of the back 6 into a new roll in ruck gave us first use and a marking presence around the ground for 4 quarters.
It was a response today but there is still much to learn as we head into next week.

B Grade Match Report: Round 16 v Old Ignatians
A gritty win against a side that has been playing some good footy in the last few weeks.
A tight game up to ¾ time and when the opposition kicked the first goal in the last quarter, we were effectively 3 goals down – but from that moment we got our game together and kicked the last five goals of the match to run out a 19 point win.
Everyone played well in the last led by Fergus Kernahan in the midfield plus our Captain who we welcome back from overseas Harrisson Twiggs played well in the ruck.
Our backline again stood up all game Jackson Petty, Riordan McNamara, and Stuart Greenslade continuing their consistent form.
We also welcomed back Matty Dnistriansky from overseas played a good role on the wing and helped down back in the first half.
El Murada is back to his best in the mids along with Tom Bradford and Harry Wright continues his good form on the wing.
Matthew Browns 5 goals were crucial including 3 goals in the last and Jarryd Ball continues his good form at centre half forward.
A good effort, we move on next to play our last home game v Edwardstown hope to see you all there.

C Grade Match Report: Round 16 v Old Ignatians
Hosting St Iggies at home it was important we kept our momentum up towards the business end of the season. From the start it was a highly physical contest, and the heat was on from the start. There were occasions in the first quarter where we were trying to be a bit cute at times resulting in some costly turnovers. At the first break it was a very even game with Iggies 2 points up.
At quarter time we talked about keeping the heat up and we would put some goal scoring pressure on. To Iggies credit the game remained tight. Jack Haddad was instrumental in the 2nd quarter playing a no fuss roll down back winning a number of 1 on 1’s and spoiling some much bigger opposition. Max Aufderheide and Eric Luppino battled hard in the ruck against some quality opposition.
The second half commenced with scores dead even and we finally broke open the game playing our trademark run and gun football. It started from Ky Haddad & Amer Elhosni in the middle breaking away from stoppage and getting it deep in our forward line. Jordan Huppatz also played a pivotal roll across half forward shutting down a player that was providing plenty of run for them off half back resulting in that player being unsighted in the second half.
We eventually ran away 14-point winners but could have been more if we kicked more accurately, but another tick for the C grade coming into the last few games of the season.
Finals Scores: Rostrevor OC 9.16 (70) defeated Old Ignatians 8.8 (56)
Goal Scorers: Jordan Huppatz 2, Luca Piantadosi 2, Max Aufderheide 2, Zac Aufderheide 1, Felix Brasher 1, Jason Cavuoto 1 & Jayden Smith 1.
Best Players: Ky Haddad, Amer Elhosni, Jayden Smith, Jordan Huppatz, Max Aufderheide

D Grade Match Report: Round 16 v Golden Grove
Rocs on the road this week travelling to Harper's Field to challenge the Golden Grove Kookaburras. With Rocs Academy looking to continue our current winning form and improve our teamwork to maintain the top 3 position that the Team has played so well to achieve this campaign.
Rocs started the match with great skills and teamwork to combine with each other and distribute the ball into attack, as our forward structure worked together to set up the best option to kick at goal. Rocs backline has been the catalyst of success for our team so far this season, setting up many turnovers & creating forward movement with run & carry producing exciting attacking football. The Roc's teamwork was at its best as the siren ended the 1st quarter with ROCs holding a commanding 39pt lead. 1/4-time score Rocs 6-3 vs Golden Grove 0-0.
Rocs were frustratingly disappointing across the 2nd & 3rd stanzas with everyone looking to shoot at the big sticks & our disciplined teamwork evaporating as Rocs failed to capitalise on our dominant field play with wayward shots on goal, booting 8-11 to 0-0 as the 3/4 siren sounded, 3/4-time score Rocs 14-14 vs Golden Grove 0-0.
The Red & Black's responded positively to once again play with teamwork and linkup forward movement to quickly run away with the game producing our best football for the contest to pile on 7-2 with the Kookaburras kicking their only score as the final siren ended play.
Final scores Rocs 21-16 def Golden Grove 1-0.
Another pleasing result for the squad but we have plenty of areas to work on as we head towards the end of the minor rounds for 2024.
