A Grade Match Report: Round 14 v Adelaide University

Every season it’s always important to win at home. With conditions extremely wet and the deck heavy we knew we needed to be on our game against our opponents.

The opening quarter was a grind initially with both sides battling the wet conditions and trying to gain the ascendancy of the game and the scoreboard. The qtr. was played for the most part in our front half with the back 6 controlling the opposition across our half back line, restricting them to a point for the quarter. At the break we held the advantage by 13 points.

The second we had adapted to the conditions and began to assert our control of the game again dominating stoppage and camping the ball in our forward 50. Some indirect movement and overuse of the ball crept into the qtr. denying greater scoreboard separation at the main break which stood at 22 points.

A couple of minor adjustments at the main break made a huge difference to our ball movement and use in the third quarter. We controlled the quarter from the first bounce denying the opposition any opportunity to score with tremendous defensive pressure and control at the source. We went on to kick 7.4 in the quarter in a dominant performance by all 21 players.

With the margin now sitting at 68 points at the final break it was a focus to play the game to the end. Every player pushed hard to the line in what was a clinical performance across every line, eventually running out the game with a 95-point win.

Tullio De Matteis continues his impressive season in a best on ground performance off half back. James Warton was equally damaging for four quarters through the midfield and forward. Kane Cini playing as our deepest defender was outstanding all day both in the air and at ground level. Damon Stepic continues to grow in experience and confidence as part of the back 6 was strong and creative all day. And up forward Luca Stepic dominated the air and provided opportunities for his teammates in a terrific game.

A strong performance at home which we again will learn from and look to next week.

B Grade Match Report: Round 14 v Adelaide University

As the scoring shots will us tell, we did dominate the game from the start to finish, other than hitting the scoreboard in a positive manner.

We started the game dominating inside 50s and stoppages around the ground in the first half. Our mids got to work early with Jules Piro, El Murada and Dylan Reinbrecht playing well – Harry Wright continues his form with a polished performance on the wing and Adam Whitehead again did a fine job in the ruck.

Jackson Petty, Stuart Greenslade and Riordan McNamara kept our defence tight but also, they set up many attacks from there which has been true to form for most of the year.

In the second half we kept them scoreless, and we kicked 4-14 again dominating inside 50s and stoppages.

Our forwards had plenty of opportunities – Jarrod Ball worked hard all game Dylan Huppatz continues to improve every week, and Max Daw looked dangerous.

A good effort but we move onto next week with a touch game at Flinders Park.

Final Scores: ROCs 7-22 (64) defeated Adelaide Uni 2-1 (13)

Best Players: Adam Whitehead, Jarrod Ball, Harry Wright, Jackson Petty, El Murada.

Goal Kickers: Dylan Huppatz 2, Dylan Matthews 2, Dylan Fitzsimmons 1, Jarrod Ball 1, Dion Bria 1.

C Grade Match Report: Round 14 v Adelaide University

Facing Adelaide Uni always a tough task no matter where they are on the ladder as they always seem to come to play against us.

It was wet and boggy conditions at Campbelltown for the first time this year and was a contested contest early. In slippery conditions and it was whoever could handle the ball cleanly and surge the ball forward seemed to have the momentum.

We conceded the first goal but fought back and dominated the rest of the first quarter. Tom Matsis got us back in the game with his running power and broke away from a number of stoppages getting the ball forward. It was also great to see Justin McInerney back in the red & black after a couple of months off and was a valuable target early marking deep in the forward 50 and putting it through for 6 points.

The second quarter began and with the rain coming down Adelaide Uni out muscled us all over the ground going harder and lower at the footy. Despite Adelaide Uni playing the better footy we kicked a late goal to even up the scores at half time.

Us coaches put it on the playing group and especially the leaders to stand up and make a statement in the second half to make sure we play Hard Rocs football which we lacked in the second quarter. We also made a tactical change in the middle sending Sam Warren in the middle to run with Adelaide Uni’s best player, Sam not only nullified him but won plenty of his own ball and had a number of important clearances. With the spotlight on our leaders, it was immense to see them step up and set the standard for the rest of the team. It started with the skipper Jack hill setting up from half back & running in straight lines. Daniel Cook also setting the standard effecting a number of contests coming off his man.

With the midfield getting on top, it gave our forward line more opportunity & was great to see Luca Piantedosi having another great game being extremely dangerous up forward and finishing a number of tough chances and ending up with 4 goals. Tom O’Leary in his 100th game milestone was a workhorse all day and featured in the best. We look forward to another challenge next week against Flinders Park and hope to keep the momentum up leading into finals.

Final Scores: ROCS 8.10 (58) defeated Adelaide Uni 6.6 (42)

Goals Scorers: Luca Piantadosi 4, Charlie Brasher 1, Thomas Matsis 1, Justin McInerney 1. Harrison Smith 1.

D Grade Match Report: Round 14 v Port Districts

Rocs on the road this round in a twilight fixture taking on Port District with weather conditions bleak at best. Rocs Academy player levels are constantly being tested in the last few weeks as injuries and unavailability to key players has made our challenges a bit harder.

Pt District were able to take advantage early on with a physical match developing, flexed their muscles and kicked accurately to dominate the scoring & hold Rocs at bay unable to find any fluent teamwork remaining scoreless at the first break. Losing our acting skipper & general of the defensive unit - Jack Munchenburg for the day injured early in the game only made the task harder. 1/4 time score - Rocs 0-0 vs Pt. District 2-3.

A huge credit goes out to the Team as Rocs were courageous and desperately worked hard together producing a stirring comeback to outscore Pt. District for the remainder of the match only to fall short late in the last stanza by 10 pts .

Rocs Academy team this week featured 16 players in their first (10) or second (6) season of Senior football & 9 players with 3 or more seasons in the Red & Black. Congrats to Bradley Warren & Anton Slivak our best two on the night with Brad leading our under-siege backline & livewire forward Anton Slivak constantly setting up attacking plays around contested possession.

Final Scores:  Rocs 5.4 (34)  defeated by Pt. Districts  6.8 (44)
