A Grade Match Report: Round 12 v PHOS Camden
We speak often about “Playing with Purpose!”, there was a lot of purpose in Saturdays game, for the season but more importantly for our Captain Dan McCallum in his 200th Game for the club.
With every player focused on their role everyone was highly motivated to perform in such a game. Conditions were far more favourable than we encountered last week, with a breeze set to challenge ball use for both sides.
We search always for a fast start and with the agency of a strong start from our midfield we built the scoreboard during an impressive first quarter. Across the ground we controlled the ball dominating field position creating opportunities which we capitalised heading to the first break 30 points ahead.
Respecting our opposition each week we knew there would be a response and challenge to win back the game on their terms. Our response was evident with our midfield controlling stoppage and our back 6 controlling the oppositions entries time and time again. Our ball movement provided challenges for the opposition resulting in another 5-goal term and a lead at the main break sitting at 43 points.
The third was an arm wrestle for the most part with the game being played within the arcs, but we were able to penetrate our opponents’ defences again building the scoreboard pressure we crave with a three-quarter time break resting at 54 points.
The final quarter was as good as we have played for the season with total control of the ball and field position. We managed to finish the quarter having kicked 6 goals with two significant goals kicked in signature style by the 200 gamer in Dan McCallum much to the delight of the players and the many supporters enjoying Ladies Day. At the final siren we had managed to push the final margin out to a very pleasing 79 points.
In such a game where had 21 contributions along with a season high 12 individual goal kickers it was extremely difficult to select best players.
Best on ground honours went to James Warton. His performance was simply outstanding as he continues some hot form this season . He dominated the midfield, working tirelessly inside the contest to create clearance for our many runners. His work rate both ways was outstanding for four quarters, even finishing of his own work with 2 goals in a standout display.
While only managing to kick one for the day, Stefan Lanzoni put on a masterclass of forward craft creating numerous goal assist opportunities over the course of the match. His on-field leadership and one percenters were also features of his outstanding game.
Ryan Lymn continues to drive our midfield with his incredible work ethic and selflessness in yet another outstanding four quarter effort.
One of our young guns Damon Stepic who this season has put together an incredible body of work as part of the back 6 was outstanding all day. With a maturity beyond his years Damon’s hunger for the contest and calmness with ball in hand along with his teammates suffocated our opponents’ entries time and time again in a tremendous defensive game for four quarters.
At the main post Luca Stepic controlled the deep forward line all day managing to register four majors for the day along with creating opportunities for his teammates in a standout performance.
A tremendous four quarter display by the side in honour of an outstanding Club Captain in his 200th A Grade game. Well played DMac.
We again look to next week in what is always another opportunity to improve.

B Grade Match Report: Round 12 v PHOS Camden
Good to get back into the winner’s circles against a side that has been very competitive the last few weeks.
We started well in all facets of the game in a positive way other than hitting the scoreboard, but in saying that we did control the game for four quarters and ended up 53-point winners
I was pleased how we started in the middle with Tyson Walls showing his class, Dylan Reinbrecht and Jules Piro also performing well giving our forwards good opportunities a special mention to Adam Whitehead who had to ruck all day and he did that admirably. Our forwards won the ball but unfortunately did not convert many goals in the first half kicking 4-11 in the first half due to some very windy conditions.
As I have said on many occasions this year our defence has been wonderfully consistent and Saturday they continued that with discipline and set up many attacks going forward, Stuart Greenslade and Harry Brock leading the way on their half back flakes.
We welcome backed Jett Boxer after sustaining a leg injury which kept him out for many weeks – his efforts were encouraging and he kicked three goals, supported by Dylan Huppatz and El Murada who both kicked two goals.
Next week we head to Athelston and look forward to seeing you all there.

Win on a forfeit.
D Grade Match Report: Round 12 v Adelaide Uni
Rocs on the road taking on Adelaide Uni on a wild & windy winters day , with the challenge even greater this campaign as a top-2 ladder position is up for grabs. The Bookworms are always a huge test for the Rocs as a fierce rivalry continues to grow.
The first half of a closely contested game was played with Uni displaying more intensity and a structured style of forward movement with the Rocs second to the contest & chasing Guernsey's. Rocs were not out of the contest with determined pressure acts & a scramble forward kept the scoring tight.1/2 time score Rocs 4-3 vs Adel Uni 3-2.
Uni were again the more dominant team & quickly erased Rocs lead & stormed ahead with a desperate Rocs fighting hard for some fluent ball use to stay within touch of the lead. 3/4 time score Rocs 5-5 vs Adel Uni 6-3.
A desperate Rocs team were magnificent in the nail-biting final stanza, powering into the lead & with great defensive effort kept Uni to a solitary point to win another tight contest. Fantastic effort from a determined team unit.
