A Grade Match Report: Round 10 v Salisbury North

We always strive to learn each week and look to improve. During the week the players under the guidance of Dave Arnfield spent some time reflecting on the first half of the season. The session was designed to review our work with a focus on the positives and continue to work to get better.

The stage was set for a huge challenge to reverse the tables from our round 1 encounter. The players were aware of the additional motivation to play well with a strong crowd filled with representatives of the 2013 premiership side, ironically against our opponents today in the crowd.

Fast start and scoreboard pressure continue to be a focus for the playing group, from the first bounce the tone was set, and we controlled the ball and the quarter. Our back 6 were ruthless defensively denying our opponents opportunities. For the full 28 minutes our ball movement connection centre forward was as good as we have played all season. 21 players fully focused, fully engaged,  and fully composed created opportunity after opportunity which we took going into the first break with a scoreboard pressure sitting at a 33-point lead.

Aware we needed to maintain the pressure rating keeping an eye on the next quarter. Our midfield group’s work rate in the second was a one of the quarters highlights, they worked both ways and in transition created opportunities centre forward. But again, it was undeniable how well our back 6 were working again they were relentless controlling our opposition entries and, in the end, restricted them to a single point for the quarter. The KPI of building scoreboard pressure was evident at the main break sitting at 61 points.

Each and every week we respect our opponents and their craft and at the main break we understood that they would come and come they did. The intensity around the ball in the third from both sides was clear shift in the contest. We maintained our willingness to take the game on pushing our opponents throughout the quarter.

At the final break the energy and commitment to finish the game strongly was visible and audible in the huddle. With our opponents pushing hard to control the contest we continued our strong attack on the ball and the contest producing some exciting passages of play and arial highlights finally running the game out 52 points ahead on the scoreboard in what was a very pleasing performance.

In such an encounter it is extremely difficult to select standout performance as there were so many, in fact all players produced highlights and contributions throughout the game.

However, from the first bounce James Warton set the tone of the contest and played as if he had brought his own ball. His was a clear best on ground performance controlling our midfield and pushing forward kicking two goals.

Not far behind James was our Centre Half Back in Cam Ball. For 10 weeks he has been at the general of our back 6 and he was outstanding today. His ability to read the play and intercept crushed our opponents’ entries for four quarters.

Paddy Dawson much like Warton arrived at the game with his own ball, his opening quarter was electric, and he continued to create and carve through our opponents with his skill and agility in an outstanding individual performance.

“Flying” Finn Wakelin thrilled the crowd from the first bounce and created a match up nightmare for our opponents. Finn was dominant in the air all day taking and threatening to take mark of the year every time he went for the ball. His day finished with 5 goals but also many score assists which was impressive from the first-year player.

And in another “Kemp like performance” Charlie Kemp was outstanding. His ability to control the ball in the air and then on the ground was elite for four quarters. He continues to be selfless in his output and his work rate incredible for four quarters.

A very pleasing performance which we will look to use and build on for next week.

B Grade Match Report: Round 10 v Salisbury North

A game against Salisbury North we knew would be highly contested as they bring much heat all over the ground.

In the first quarter we took a while to settle as we initially didn’t quite handle the pressure they put on us, plus we were a little hesitate to take the game on.

Credit to the players we adjusted a few things at the break and levelled off the game. In the second half we controlled the game without hitting the scoreboard as much as we would have liked but end up with a 22point win.

The second half produced some fine performance including Josh Bradford who played a fantastic third quarter winning centre clearances and his work rate was good all day, but the second half was outstanding.

He was ably supported by his twin brother Josh Bradford who is now starting to play good consistent football in the mids.

Paddy Baldwin’s effort was outstanding in the ruck plus his work as a key forward was value. Jarrod Ball continued his good form from last week up forward giving us a target all day.

Our defence again was outstanding only conceding only 5 gaols in the match, was led by Jackson Thomas, Hugo Shute and Daniel Carbone.

Overall, a good result against the current third placed side on the ladder.

Next week will be a great challenge against Goodwood Saints which we are looking forward to.

C Grade Match Report: Round 10 v Salisbury North

After a loss to Modbury last week, the C grade came out with a point to prove against Salisbury North. The first half we were able to dominate possessor and the scoreboard, however some poor kicking cost us having a large lead at the half.

Our midfield was exceptional this week lead by our ruckman Adam Whitehead. His tap work in combination with Ky Haddad, Sam Warren and Josh Massie was a huge reason we were able to win the first half so convincingly. Their clearance work and tackling were first class.

The forwards were also able to fill their boots. We had 11 individual goal kickers for the day. This showed the unselfishness and the willingness for our boys to share around the footy.

The team stepped it up another gear in the second half. Any inaccuracies at goal were fixed which led to a pile on of goals. We almost kicked the same amount of points in the 3rd quarter as we did in the whole first half. This was on the back of lots of run and carry from our half backs in Daniel Leonard and Jack Hill.

The final term became ‘Timmy Time’ as Tim Lewis was moved to full forward in his 100th game for the club. He showed he can do it at either end of the ground and finishing with 2 goals to himself. We finished the last quarter not conceding any score.

This week was an excellent effort from the whole team. We now look forward to Goody Saints who currently are one spot above us. We’ll look forward to the challenge.

D Grade Match Report: Round 10 v Lockleys

A Friday night blockbuster awaiting a highly excited Rocs Academy as we travelled by a Team bus to challenge Lockley's FC. The first term produced a scrambled effort by the Red & Black's as we were second to the contest & unable to create any fluency in our forward attacks . Lockley's held control of general play with teamwork and confidence that had Rocs second guessing & caused many turnover's which stalled the cohesion of our challenge to stay in the contest. 1/4-time score Rocs 1-1 vs Lockley's 3-0.

Lockleys went from strength to strength as the game progressed as they were first to the contest & linked up with great teamwork to storm away from a powerless Rocs outfit. Totally controlling the contest Lockley's increased their lead to crush the Rocs by a disappointing 60 pt margin.

Final Scores: Rocs 2-4 (16) defeated by Lockleys 11-10 (76)
