R9 - Photo's vs Modbury

After a break the players returned fresh and energised for the challenges that lay ahead, with the first focus on our Round 9 opponent Modbury.

Going into the game we knew and respected the quality of our opposition and knew we needed to bring our best to get the result.

The game was an exciting spectacle with both sides challenging for control of the game. The first quarter was the start we always push for “ fast with intent on building scoreboard pressure”.  The players controlled the ball and played the quarter in our front half for a large percentage of the quarter, time and time again we rebounded out of D50 with precision and our forwards going to work producing our highest first quarter score for the season, but for some polish we could have been further ahead at the first break.

We knew they would come at some point in the game and that they did in the second , taking some ascendency around the contest and in the air up forward. While they regained some of the score deficit, we maintained our composure and responded each time they scored going into the main break 5 points ahead.

The third was set up to regain control which we did with all 21 players impacting at various stages we again peppered the goals having a further 9 shots and restricting through the agency of a dominant back 6 to a solitary goal. This is when the game broke and we went into the main break 23 points ahead. Again, but for some polish in front of goal this break could have been greater.

The final was an arm wrestle with both sides pushing hard to win the contest and control, our opponents pushed us hard but our back 6 and midfield group lifting their intensity time and time again to force errors and regain the footy. The final score a 17-point victory was a great win full of character and belief.

So many standout performances across the four quarters, but best on ground honours were awarded to Charlie Kemp who dominated the air all day. His work rate and physical presence was dominant.

James Butterworth proved yet again why he is so critical for our group, not only does he compete in the ruck providing us with first use but his ground level presence for a big man is outstanding.

Ryan Lymn “Mr Fixit” is often asked to play a variety of roles and Saturday was no exception, he slipped straight into a selfless role tagging one of their players and did it to perfection particularly after halftime and at the same time winning his own ball.

Connor Butcher continued his outstanding purple patch of form, which and is fast becoming an integral part of our midfield. His composure with the ball and delivery was elite for four quarters.

Tom O’Malley was simply outstanding again all day. He continues to be cool and calm down back reading the play and being creative with ball in hand  and restricting his opponents.

We now move into the second half of the season with still much to learn and another opportunity to get better this coming Saturday.

B Grade Match Report: Round 9 v Modbury

A game we treated as a big challenge, and I was really pleased how the players prepared for the game and then executed a really good start.

We structurally set up well and applied pressure to Modbury and absorbed their intent and pressure well.

The first half was set up by our defence repelling entries into their forward line plus our mids controlled stoppages and ground balls also our forward line played their roles with discipline and finishing off on the scoreboard.

The third quarter we lost a bit of our composure when ball in hand – these mistakes allowed Modbury back into the game. To our credit we reset at ¾ time and won the final quarter to complete a pleasing five goal win.

Best players were difficult to name as all players played their particular roles well.

Dylan Fitzsimmons continued his good form up forward and wing with 3 goals in the second quarter. Our mid field worked well all day with Dlyan Reinbrecht, El Murada and Peter Vorrasi playing their consistent good games.

Jake Slivak found his best form in the mids and up forward, Harry Wright showed his class all day on the wing, and it was great to see Jarryd Ball playing an important role up forward and Paddy Baldwin continues his good form as a key forward and bit of time in the ruck.

Another big challenge for us this week – Salisbury North at home.

Final Scores: ROCs 14-9 (93) defeated Modbury 9-8 (62)

C Grade Match Report: Round 9 v Modbury

This week was a top of the table clash against Modbury. We looked forward to a more competitive match, compared to the last couple of months, to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the competition. We welcomed a multitude of changes to our side with lots of new faces earning their spot.

Modbury showed why they’re currently the team to beat. They came out of the blocks with a point to prove and put our lads on the back foot early.

Our defenders had a lot of work to do early but fought hard well. However, despite their efforts the first quarter ended with Modbury leading by 28 points.

After a slow start we finally found our feet and turned the match around into a much more even contest. We kicked 4 straight goals in the second quarter to bring ourselves back into the game.

Modbury were able to wrestle back some of the momentum we had initially regained in third quarter. They kicked 5 goals whilst we were only able to manage another 2. This extended their lead and left a lot to do in the final term.

Unfortunately, our effort after quarter time wasn’t quite enough to claw back the lead Modbury had established in the first quarter. This loss is a welcome reminder to our group.  It has established the level we need to be at in order to compete for a flag at the end of the year.

We look forward to getting back on the track and polishing some areas as we head into the back end of the season.

D Grade Match Report: Round 9 v Para Hills

Rocs on the road to finish the first round of matches this campaign taking on Para Hills FC.

Rocs were playing with great teamwork and skilful execution to start the match. Moving the footy quickly between each other into attack with our dominant forward targets taking the opportunities to rattle the scoreboard. Plenty of highlights were on display with some coast-to-coast fluency the best of the collection. 1/4-time score Rocs 6-3 vs Para Hills 1-1.

During the rest of the match Rocs were able to take complete control of proceedings and with unselfish skilful teamwork we were able to slam on another 20 goals while keeping Para Hills at bay.
