A Grade Match Report: Round 8 v Edwardstown

Saturday was another opportunity to travel away from home. The competition and the game never give away wins these are always hard fought and earnt.

The conditions that prevailed were again perfect for football and the players seized the opportunity early with a near flawless first quarter hitting the scoreboard creating the pressure we focus on and finishing at the break with our highest return in the first for the year to date.

This set the tone for the game, with the players controlling the ball and the contest from the first bounce and we maintained this position for much of the game with a further 5 goals straight in the second and restricting our opponents from scoring.

Our ball movement and efficiency inside 50 was pleasing and definitely a reward for effort on the training track to improve these  elements of our game.

While we continued to build a positive score line the most pleasing aspect of the game was the way we played. We remained committed for four quarters to the plan and to trust the process and despite the score we played in a respectful manner.

The second half we again lifted the intensity around the contest and went onto the kick 7 goals in each of the remaining quarters conceding only one point in the third and two goals in the final minutes of the last quarter.

It was an impressive outing with much to like and still plenty to work on as we approach the halfway mark of the season .

There were standout performances across the entire side with all 21 players contributing strongly across the game.

Charlie Kemp across half forward continues his strong form providing us with a high marking target all day and contributing on the scoreboard with two goals for the game and numerous assists.

James Butterworth who is developing as on field coach , dominated the centre square with his ruckwork and around the ground. He continues to provide second and third efforts at ground level which is inspiring for the side and our younger players.

Beau Baldwin provided a spark inside the midfield this week with his quick hands and ball use providing a number of forward entries and goal assists across the four quarters.

Luca Stepic provided those at the ground a real glimpse as to his strong forward craft kicking a staggering 9.1 and handing off several in what was a standout performance at the main post up forward.

Best on ground honours for the day went to Connor Butcher who was strong, creative and selfless for four quarters. He accumulated possessions and his ability to get to every contest was a highlight and set the tone for the side from the first bounce.

We head into a well-deserved break to recharge and reset for the remainder of the season .

B Grade Match Report: Round 8 v Edwardstown

We got back in the winner’s circle with a good all round performance. We learnt a lot from last week, and what was good to see we executed that well especially in the first half.

We focused on getting a good start, which we did entering the forward line quickly with good clearance work form our mid field and transition footy from our defence.

Matthew Brown at forward took advantage of that ending up with 9 goals 5 points his marking and ground ball work was great to watch, he was assisted up forward with Amer, Olly Piro and Lewis Matsis hitting the scoreboard multiple times.

Our captain and ruckman Harrison Twiggs played well all match, helping our mids get first use of the ball, with Tom Bradford, Dylan Reinbrecht and Harry Wright on the wing played well supplying the forwards with ample opportunities.

Dylan Fitzsimmons continued his good form with another good game up forward, wing and ran  sometimes in the mids.

Our defence as a whole showed wonderful discipline all day, hence adding to the all-round team performance.

Looking forward to the break this week, but also, we will focus in on the last game of the round against Modbury.

C Grade Match Report: Round 8 v Edwardstown

Rocs on the road travelling to Edwardstown with a great chance to continue our winning streak coming up against Edwardstown.

We got on top early with a 6 goal to none first quarter. Dylan Matthews provided a good target up forward kicking a couple of early goals.

Thomas Matsis was everywhere in the early stages winning a number of centre clearances giving our forwards a number of one-on-one opportunities.

Some early rustiness by hand meant we were probably not as clinical as we would have liked in the first quarter.

All though we were well on top in the first quarter there was a bit of scrappiness with our disposal that we wanted to polish up in the 2nd quarter.

We started the second quarter much the same as the first however Edwardstown managed to wrestle back a bit of momentum.

Zac Aufderheide and Lachie Hill were solid down back and rebounded a number of the townies attacks.

With Edwardstown with a bit of momentum we needed a spark and Fabian Di Iulio provided that with a number of awesome efforts. His forward pressure was immense and had a number of chase down tackles. You could see this really lifted the team as we pilled on a few more goals towards the latter half of the quarter.

At half time we were happy with the scoreboard but wanted to improve the way in which we were playing and fix up our skills.

Unfortunately, the boys were lacking some motivation and Edwardstown put on the first 3 goals of the quarter.

The boys needed a spark and up stepped Wayne Inglis in his C grade debut. A chase down tackle, as well as a goal assist really got the boys up and about.

To top it all off Wayne Marked & goal late in the 3rd term which saw the whole team get to Wayne in Celebration. Definitely the highlight of the day!

We eventually ran away 81-point winners, setting us up for our top of the table clash next round against Modbury. Hope to see you all there!
