A Grade Match Report: Round 7 v Old Ignatians
We talk as a group about a fast start and pressure. Pressure both at the contest and building scoreboard pressure. These elements together with trusting the process no matter what presents are critical to every game. Saturday’s game was also a crucial away game, the first of two on the road leading into the bye weekend. Conditions were spectacular for football.
The fast start we searched for came in the first quarter, creating the scoreboard pressure we had focused on. Our pressure around the contest was a feature of the first and set the tone for the game.
We knew as we do each week our opponents would come and we needed to maintain our respect and composure, adapt and trust the process. This was evident throughout the balance of the game with the back 6 leading from the front, controlling the air and the ground ball to creative countless transitions from the back half.
The second and third quarters were strongly contested with several momentum shifts which provided a good spectacle for those on hand. The final was hard fought with the players continuing to create opportunities which unfortunately we were unable to take full advantage with a 2.5 return, but it was enough to finish the game strongly. Definitely a focus point for the coming weeks.
With Luca Stepic back into the side we had a strong target ahead of the ball and he didn’t disappoint kicking game high 4 goals for the match.
Standout performances for the game came from players across the ground with Tullio DeMatteis leading from the front with a best on ground performances as part of the back 6. He created transition from the back half all day.
James Butterworth the veteran bleeds red and black, his performance on Saturday was inspiring, giving us first use , dropping back taking an intercept marks, creating transition through the corridor and for a big man his ability to get to a ground ball all were on display on Saturday in an outstanding game.
Off a wing Paddy Dawson continued his impressive season with a tremendous game, creating opportunities out of nowhere all day.
Cam Ball continues to general the back 6 with his ability to intercept, spoil and create. His inclusion into the back 6 this season has been instrumental and increasing our defensive standard.
And Charlie Kemp maintained his standard controlling the air at CHF for the game as well as working up and down the ground providing us with a target all day.
It was a pleasing win one we need to move on from quickly with the focus to always look to improve and to next week.

B Grade Match Report: Round 7 v Old Ignatians
A game that we were from the start under pressure, and really could never arrest the momentum back apart from some moments in the third quarter.
To the credit of Old Ignatians they controlled stoppages early and their transition footy from their defence worried us all day. The question is did we not play to our best or did the opposition not let us?
Our defence was under pressure all game but considering they play well in particular Jimmy McGuiness and Hugo Shute performed consistently. Even though we struggled with stoppages our mids were gallant around the ground with Peter Vorrasi and El Murada doing well.
Good to see Max Daw and Paddy Baldwin hit the scoreboard with three goals each and Dylan Fitzsimmons tried all day.
Final Scores ROCs 10-7 defeated by Old Ignatians 11-11
Best Players – Peter Vorrasi, Jimmy McGuiness, Dylan Fitzsimmons, Max Daw and Hugo Shute.
Goal Kickers – Paddy Baldwin 3, Max Daw 3, 1 each Tom Bradford, Dylan Reinbrecht, Justin McInerney, Lewis Matsis.

C Grade Match Report: Round 7 v Old Ignatians
The C Grade boys had this game circled leading up to the game and wanted to put in a good showing.
The energy was up in the warmup and the boys got off to a cracking start. The midfield was on top early with Max Aufderheide and Adam Whitehead giving them great service from the ruck.
Dylan Matthews & Jordan Huppatz were both lively kicking early goals and making sure everything came to ground. Our Forwards set the tone early with their endeavor at the man and football. Our forward pressure was first class.
Our tackling pressure was immense early and had St Ignatius on the back foot. A six goal to none first quarter set us up for the rest of the day.
With our rucks continuing to put the ball on a platter for our mids we continued our ascendency from the centre bounce. Jarryd Ball was using his bigger body, getting first hands on the ball from the ruck and feeding our explosive mids in Kye Haddad & Henry Myall. Felix Brasher provided a great lead up target kicking a goal himself and setting up another couple of goals.
As the second quarter progressed St Iggies fought back but our defenders repelled a number of repeat entries. Lachie Hill took a number of contested marks & Zac Aufderheide provided some great bounce from the backline.
We managed to switch the ball deep in defence a number of times and played some scintillating football using great foot skills transferring the ball from our D50 to forward 50.
Jordan Huppatz continued his domination in the second half in what was probably his best game for the club. He managed to clunk a number of contested marks and slotted his set shots a just reward for his efforts & finished with 5 goals.
We eventually ran away 100+ point winners in what was probably our performance of the season so far. With a number of players being promoted to the B grade this week due to a variety of reasons the C grade depth really showed.

D Grade Match Report: Round 7 v Golden Grove
Rocs Academy hosting Golden Grove with our side looking to keep playing our team-first style of football that has led to 4 wins in a row.
Rocs were out of the blocks early on in the contest and with unselfish skilful use of the ball had the scoreboard ticking over to hold a commanding lead at QTR time.
Scores Rocs 6-4 vs Golden Grove 1-0.
During the 2nd & 3rd stanzas Rocs were able to take complete control of the match but unfortunately, we didn't make the most of our opportunities to score as our team were all trying to kick a goal & our attacking forward play wasted many chances to score.
