A Grade Match Report: Round 5 v Adelaide University
It had been a big week on the track, deep in review following last week’s result with everyone keen to atone.
We have challenged ourselves to win away and so the challenge was set on what was a glorious day for footy.
The crowd was soon to get an understanding of the defensive system at work with the team and back six restricting our opponents to a solitary behind in the first half. This hard work allowed us to push hard offensively which we did with our second half getting reward for effort on the scoreboard.
The result was a credit to all 21 players who contributed to the four-quarter effort running away to a 57-point win on the road.
There was standout performance from best afield in Tom O’Malley and Cam Ball part of our back 6. Beau Baldwin sparked our second half with 3 outstanding goals, with James Butterworth working tirelessly in the ruck all day. And Tyson “ the Accumulator” Walls continued on his form with a polished performance through the midfield and up forward.
Special mentions included Paddy Dawson , “ Flying” Finn Wakelin and Charlie Kemp who all gave us some moments of brilliance.
We again most turn our focus to next week and look to improve.
Final Score : ROCFC 12.13.85 defeated Adelaide Uni 4.4.28
Goal Kickers : B. Baldwin 3, F. Wakelin 3, C. Kemp 2, M. Brown 2, T. Walls 1, W. Mead 1
Best Players: T. O’Malley, J. Butterworth, B. Baldwin, T. Walls, C. Ball, F. Wakelin
See you at the footy.

B Grade Match Report: Round 5 v Adelaide University
A game that was a struggle for us all day – we scratched out a win which in the end was pleasing.
Even though Adelaide Uni have currently not won a game, (everyone outside our team thought it would be an easy win) we knew that they were not going to be easy beats, as they have had a couple of very honourable loses so far this season.
Our first half was below our previous performances, but we did win the first half, then in the next two quarters started to get our game together and went on to win by 43 points. It’s a game we will learn a lot from because even though it was not a pretty win, we kept at it which shows the positive character of this group.
We had many good contributors over the four quarters – El Murada who was acting captain on the day played well in the mid field aided by Jonah Duperouzel and James McInerney effort in the ruck was consistent all day.
Pat Baldwin is getting better each week he steps out, had a good game up forward and part time in the ruck. Ben Spehr continues his form with another 4 goals.
Our defence was under pressure at times, but handled that well with good performances from Hugo Shute, Daniel Carbone, and Jackson Thomas.
Final Scores ROCs 10-13 (73) defeated Uni 4-6 (30)
Best Players – El Murada, James McInerney, Pat Baldwin, Ben Spehr, and Hugo Shute.
Goal Kickers – Ben Spehr 4, Dylan Fitzsimmons 2, Luca Stepic 1, Tom Bradford 1, Adam Greenwood 1, and Pat Baldwin 1.

C Grade Match Report: Round 5 v Adelaide University
The C Grade got proceedings off at Adelaide Uni anticipating a competitive Adelaide Uni side and that is what we got. We got off to a good start with an early goal and dominated the early clearances & inside 50’s. The scoreboard early didn’t reflect on our early dominance, which told the story for the rest of the day. Mitch Warren & Amer Elhosni were pivotal in the early stages in dominating clearance leading us to control field position.
Adelaide Uni continued to make it difficult for us as inaccurate kicking continued to plague us. Olly Piro was working hard up forward providing a target and kicked a nice snap for goal. We came in at the main break 20 points up hoping to break the game open in the second half.
The 3rd quarter started, and we kicked an early goal hoping this would kick start some momentum however the game remained in the balance. Our frustration at not finishing our hard work led to some ill-discipline as we let Uni back in with some cheap goals. Harry Brock in only his first year out of school was a rock at half back and stopped a number of rebounds from Adelaide Uni.
At the last break we emphasized running over the top of our opposition, sticking to our structures, and executing our foot skills. Jason’s Cavuoto’s experience & class shone in the last as he set up a couple of goals with his lethal left boot. With Adelaide Uni refusing to go away Fabian Di Iulio finally kicked the sealer with a lovely check side.
We will take a number of learnings from this week’s game and look to improve upon them facing our next challenge Flinders Park at home next Saturday.
Final Scores: ROCs 9.17 (71) def Adelaide Uni 7.3 (45)
