A Grade Match Report: Round 4 v Athelstone

It was a perfect day for footy, with a huge crowd of past players and officials in attendance so the stage was set for a huge game.

Our opponents were out of the blocks very quickly early making the most of their opportunities in front of goal. The fast start we wanted and the score board pressure we craved eluded us from the first bounce. However, at the first break the deficit was only 4 points.

In the second we allowed the opposition to control the ball which enabled them to move and score freely. Our pressure dropped away and our accuracy in front of goal was again found wanting kicking only 4 behinds for the quarter.

After half time we rest and mounted a strong charge over the remaining two quarters outscoring our opposition but again our accuracy and finish proved the difference falling short by 14 points.

While we created opportunities in front of goal, we were unable to finish kicking a staggering 17 behinds (14 behinds off the boot & 3 rushed) for the game, 9 of the 14 were from set shots. An RFI as we move on to next week.

A disappointing end to what was a tremendous day for the footy club. Despite the loss there were standout performances across the game from  Ryan Lymn & Paddy Dawson on the wings, with Dan McCallum and Tullio De Matteis down back and a shining light up forward in Stefan Lanzoni.

We will look to rebound next week.

Final Score : ROCs 8.17 (65) def by Athelstone 12.7 (79)

B Grade Match Report: Round 4 v Athelstone

Firstly, like to acknowledge what a special occasion it was on Saturday celebrating past players and volunteers day in the clubs 50th year.

Great to have your support and all of you have left a fantastic legacy in your era for the current players to enjoy a welcoming and brilliant club with great facilities.

The 21 players that played for the B grade on Saturday all went to the school, which speaks volumes for the club going forward.

We had a very good win where again we had 21 contributors with each playing their roles well, plus 4 consistence quarters of footy.

Athelstone before this game had won 2 games, so we knew it was going to be competitive, we started well which has been a strength so far this year and continued that right through to the end.

Many players contributed to our 22-goal win, fine performances from our on ball players – Kade Madigan, Jonah Duperouzel, El Murada and our two wingers Connor Butcher and Dylan Richards efforts were superb.

In a big victory like this our forward line had many opportunities to hit the scoreboard, Matthew Browns effort at full forward was special to see with 10 goals, he was ably supported by Jake Slivak, Ben Spehr with 3 goals each, and our normally stout and popular defender Jackson Petty going down forward to kick 2 goals. Pat Baldwin and part time in the ruck  played well at Half forward

It may seem our defence didn’t have a lot to do but they showed great disciplined to keep their structure again proved difficult for the oppo to penetrate.

A good win, but now we move forward to play Adelaide Uni, be good to see you all at Uni this Saturday.

C Grade Match Report: Round 4 v Athelstone

The boys continued their strong form against Athelstone with another clinical performance, scoring over 100 points for the second week in a row. Our midfield group stood up once again, led by ruckman Justin McInerney. He continued his strong form and had himself a day out which included two goals in his 100th game for the club.

Our back 6 were professional all day, structuring up well and making it very difficult for Athelstone to maintain any sort of momentum. Riordan McNamara and James McGuinness were excellent across half back using their skills and pace to rebound effectively out of our D50. Zac Aufderheide and Tim Lewis were also pivotal in their lockdown roles and were exceptional the entire day.

Our forwards were unselfish and relentless. The goals were shared around equalling to 11 different goal scorers for the day. This was led by Tom Mattis who came back into the side and finished with 4 goals. Tall forward Dylan Matthews also competed hard all day and finished the match with 2 goals.

The team should be applauded for their professionalism and manner in which they conduct themselves both on and off the track. A couple new faces into the side this week also showed they definitely deserved their spot and were up to the challenge. They’re now reaping the rewards of all their hard work at training and don’t look like they’re slowing down.

We now look forward to doing everything we can to continue our strong momentum moving forward for the rest of the season!

Final Scores: ROCs 16.13 (109) def Athelstone 3.3 (21)

D Grade Match Report: Round 4 v Rosewater

Rocs on the road this week travelling to Rosewater FC for the early morning kick-off @ 10:15am. A fired-up Rocs Academy started proceedings with great purpose playing an unselfish team first style of football that was a genuine pleasure to watch. Rocs were on top in all positions on the ground, using run & carry , linking up together to swarm the opposition & kicked to position with our forward targets well on top making the most of our opportunities to rattle the scoreboard consistently. The Red & Black machine firing on all cylinders, set the stage for a huge win as the teamwork and skilful execution continued until 3/4 time with Rocs totally controlling general play. 3/4-time scores Rocs 23-13 vs Rosewater 2-1.

Rocs kept the pressure on Rosewater during the last stanza but unfortunately the teamwork & unselfish play had been forgotten. Rocs still dominated the play but were extremely wasteful with our forward opportunities booting 4-10 for the qtr. A commanding win just what our team needed to reward our promising start to the season.
