A Grade Match Report: Round 1 v Salisbury North
There was a heightened sense of expectation as we headed into round 1. A promising preseason campaign under our belts and strong injection of youth and talent within the club gave us a great deal of optimism as we headed up the highway to Salisbury North.
Our start was promising with the game played in our front half for much of the first quarter creating multiple shots on goal. Our pressure and back 6 kept the opposition under constant pressure. We were unable to capitalise on our opportunities which remained the story of the game in the final analysis.
The second quarter saw our opponents gain control of the territory game and in turn multiple opportunities in front of goal. Their pressure and speed on the ball proved a challenge before half time.
A reset at halftime and some focus points gave us the added injection to wrestle back the momentum but again we were unable to take full advantage of the opportunities we created.
It was an arm wrestle in the final with the opposition again capitalising on their opportunities and taking out the game by 13 points.
While not the result we were hoping for we certainly will learn from the outing and use the week on the training track to continue to improve.
The game saw a total of 8 players debut for the club and A Grade which is enormously exciting as we head into the season.
Standout performance were from Charlie Kemp who again provided us with a strong arial presence up forward, Kade Maddigan was electric though the midfield and up forward in his debut, James Warton continued his impressive midfield work particularly at stoppage giving us countless opportunities to move the ball and the evergreen James Butterworth gave us first use with his ruck craft for 4 quarters.
Best on Ground honours went to debutant Finn Wakelin who kicked 3 in an inspiring performance up forward and through the ruck. He is a name to watch in 2024.
As always, we now shift the focus to Round 2 and Goodwood Saints at Home.

B Grade Match Report: Round 1 v Salisbury North
A season starter at Salisbury North is always a tough ask, but I was really happy how as a group of players we took the challenge on.
Salisbury North are always a very contested and tough at the ball side, the pleasing thing for us was we absorbed that and more than matched them in the first quarter.
In the second quarter we opened up the game with our quick movement of the footy and continued our pressure to their ball carrier causing many turnovers.
In the first half our defence was terrific with Callum Krollig leading the way, Tyson Walls, El Murada and Tom Bradford midfield work was great winning stoppages and clearing contests with speed and great use of the ball.
Third quarter we broke even due to sustaining injuries – Matthew Brown at half time, Peter Vorrasi, and Jake Slivak during the quarter, due to this we took a little while to settle.
In the last quarter we had no rotations, but we showed great maturity and belief in our fitness program and outscored them again in the last quarter.
I was really pleased with the result as we had many good players around the ground.
The 6 debut players played well with Callum Krollig, Tyson Walls and Darci Best, getting in the best players. Jackson Petty showed great maturity down back, Jack Haddad second half on the ball was great, and Matthew Brown's two first half goals at full forward showed what he will bring to the table this year.
It’s a round one victory – with 17 to go, plenty of work to do!!

C Grade Match Report: Round 1 v Salisbury North
An excellent start to the season with a close win over a tough competitor at their home ground.
The result could have been put to bed very early in the game if it wasn’t for some poor finishing in front of goal. A lot of new players pulling on the ROCs jumper for the first time, and they acquitted themselves very well. The boys fought hard in the last quarter to hold off a fast-finishing opposition.
Final Score: ROCFC 5.16 d Salisbury North 6.6
Best Players: Justin McInerney, Tim Lewis, Olly Piro, Amer Elhosni & Jack Hill
Goal Kickers: Luca Piantadosi 2, Dylan Mattews 1, Amer Elhosni 1 & Olly Piro 1
D Grade Match Report: Round 1 v Lockleys
Fantastic football conditions at Roc Park (CMO) as the Rocs Academy started the new season, hosting Lockleys FC our team featuring 9 debutants started the 2024 season with plenty of cohesion, linking up with great teamwork to dominate general play. The only blemish being our inability to convert the many chances on goal created during the first half. Rocs leading the entertaining contest by 7pts. 1/2-time score Rocs 2-8 vs Lockleys 2-1. Lockleys increased their intensity & attack on the ball carrier to storm into the lead, kicking important goals & holding the Rocs at bay. Despite our best-efforts Rocs Academy could not challenge Lockleys on the scoreboard & despite having more scoring shots fell short by 11pts.
Final scores Rocs 5-12(42) def by Lockleys 8-5(53).
