Congratulations to LOSA into the Grand Final
Week 1 of Finals - LOSA v Modbury
We returned home for our first final against Modbury on Saturday. The winner would advance to the Division 5 grand final in two weeks, while the loser would need to play in the preliminary final this coming week. There was plenty to play for.
LOSA had a good start with some initial clearances and forward entries. Modbury’s defensive pressure was enough to minimise our scoring. The first goal was kicked by Alice Harris around her body in general play. Modbury made some fast breaks to enter their forward 50, however similarly LOSA’s defence efforts held Modbury to a point by quarter time.
Amelia Kelly was competitive in the ruck all day, providing good supply to roving mids and being a competitor at ground level. Midfield were working over time at both teams as both teams found it difficult to break free from congestion at times. Bella Simpson utilised her running power through quick transition running. LOSA were able to control a majority of the play within our half. Held to only two points as the play rebounded and was turned over quickly, LOSA went into the main break 7-points up.
Modbury continued to try and break LOSA’s defensive line in the third, but the team held strong under pressure, keeping Modbury to another scoreless quarter. Forward and midfield pressure was intense, and on baller Abbie Deegan was a contributor to shutting down some key Modbury mids. A few majors were missed in front of goal, however LOSA were still controlling a majority of the play. The score line was still not comfortable, and then a second goal came from Stephanie Principe when the ball was tumbled forward without being touched.
A 16-1 lead, there was still plenty of time for both teams in the final quarter. Sophie Haines led the forwards by creating strong movement and working with the mids and forwards to create deeper entries. Modbury broke through our backline to score a quick goal. Fast breaks continued to threatened, but were handled with composed heads by our backline and midfield. While forwards continued to work hard for all four quarters when Modbury tried to shutdown our options.
Final score LOSA 2.5(17) defeated Modbury 1.1(7).
A strong performance by the whole team for four quarters, and a very valuable win. Now a chance to freshen up the bodies and prepare ourselves for the grand final in two weeks. This will be LOSA’s second grand final appearance in as many years.

A Grade Report Round 17 v North Haven @ North Haven
The theme for the week on the track leading into this round was “ Continue to drive the standard and set the tone “.
Our opening quarter definitely set the tone, in arguably our best first quarter performance for the season on display. Every player impacted providing numerous entries inside our F50 which our forwards took full advantage from.
Understanding there was plenty on the line for both sides we knew our opponents on their home deck would challenge despite our control of the contest in the second. The third saw the game lift in intensity around the contest with both sides unable to effectively move the ball, but the momentum had shifted.
The final quarter which saw the game open up we again exerted full control of the game. Our run and ability to control the ball created opportunities for us to put the game beyond doubt and continue the build.
We saw contributions from every player throughout the course of the game which is something we aspire to each week. Tom McCormack, Stefan Lanzoni and Charlie Kemp dominated our forward line with the later two kicking 5 and 4 majors respectively.
James Warton and Ryan Lymn both high contested ball winners again gave our forwards countless opportunities from stoppage and field play. Patrick Dawson and Ferghus Kernahan both gave the spectators yet another glimpse of the smart creative play all afternoon.
But it was the welcome return to the side both from significant injuries in James Butterworth and especially Will Mead which provide the side with the added boast of energy, speed and experience in standout performances from both.
We again take significant learnings from the game and look again to our next opportunity.
See you at the footy.

B Grade Report Round 17 v North Haven @ North Haven
A win we expected to have but the pleasing thing was the way we went about it.
All players played their role – held their position hence why the result was a very satisfying one. Our quick transition footy with a foot and hand skills opened up the field hence why we had 11 goal scorers.
Dylan Matthews kicked 4 goals, Dylan is growing in confidence and is one player with a bright future.
Our midfield performance was excellent led by Dylan Reinbrecht, El Murada, Tom Bradford and Lewis Matsis.
Our forwards had plenty of opportunities to hit the scoreboard – Dylan Fitzsimmons, Adam Greenwood and Tom Snowball did best in that area kicking 3 goals each.
Olly Piro and Tom Bradford (3 goals) also had good games.
As a good group we look forward to finishing the season off with a win at home this week, hope to see you all there.

The message on Saturday was getting the job done. Players are beginning to return from the Riviera and players are heading back as the weather improves.
We started well but our second half was our best.
It was fantastic to have Nick Murphy and Tom Hurley back it’s a privilege to have them help us along with Dutchy Holland.
Our mids dominated, Ky Haddad was sensational along with Amer Elhonsi.
Murph kicked 6 in 3 quarters and Hurls 4. Sam Warren was great out of the middle as well and slotted 2 himself.
A last-minute change saw J (Ray) Huppatz join us from the B grade and played a great game. Tom O’Leary was back from OS and was excellent for us , will get better with another run under his belt.

D Grade Report Round 17 v Pembroke @ Campbelltown
Rocs hosted rivals Pembroke King's for the recently established Warren Cup in our final game for 2023 . Better player numbers this week around the club & a few late ins & outs gave us 23 keen combatants to help celebrate Rocs superstar Sam(Bocca Jr) Bowler's 200th game for the club. Rocs were switched on from the first contest & worked together with some fluent ball movement & quick disposal, the Team made the most of our early dominance to create a very handy and well deserved 19pt lead at 1/4 time. Scores Rocs 4-2 vs Pembroke 1-1.
Pembroke increased the pressure around every contest to dominate general play & stormed back into the contest as Rocs battled hard in defence under constant forward attacks. The Rocs were rewarded for their persistence to create a couple of timely goals & still held some scoreboard ascendancy by the 1/2-time break. Scores Rocs 6-5 vs Pembroke 4-3.
Once again Pembroke put the pressure around the ground to maximum effort threatening to take the game away from a stuttering Rocs squad, but a late qtr. burst of teamwork gave the Team a rare 3/4-time lead. Scores Rocs 7-7 vs Pembroke 6-7. With the game up for grabs, the magnets were moved around again with some crucial repositioning to create our best chance of maintaining our pressure and teamwork from contested possession. After an evenly contested start to the qtr. Rocs wasted some early shots on goal as the King's capitalised to boot the opening goal with Rocs lead now down to 3pts the alarm bells were ringing loudly. A sensational response from the Team under constant pressure as Rocs dominance returned to create 3 last qtr. goals setting up a well-deserved & much needed victory.
Final Scores: Rocs 10-9(69) defeated Pembroke King's 7-11(53)
