A Grade Report Round 14 v Henley @ Campbelltown

The lead into Saturday’s game was a challenge for many at the club. There was and always will be an incredible legacy to remember, honour and celebrate at the forefront our minds heading into the contest.

Buoyed by a large gathering of the club’s generous sponsors and the special presence of the future of the football club in the 2023 First XVIII on hand there was plenty at stake for us. This was not lost on the players.

We challenge ourselves each week to make a “fast start”, our opening quarter was anything but that. Our opponents took full advantage of this lapse sprinting to a 4.1 lead in the opening ten minutes of the quarter. It wasn’t until the 12-minute mark that we trouble the scorer with a solitary point. To the players credit and a sign of growth in the side we held our composure and following an injection of brilliance from Stefan Lanzoni, which was the spark we needed we headed into the quarter time down by 12 points.

We reset at the break with a clear focus to hunt for control of the game to close the margin. While the second was still littered with fundamental flaws in our game, which we need to continue to work on we were able to wrestle with our ball use and efficiency inside our front half to go in at the main break 2 points in front.

The third quarter was a contest with both sides having moments, but it was our back 6 who set the game up for us having exerted their authority on the game. While we stood at the final break 4 points behind, there was a sense of real belief from the group.

The final stanza didn’t disappoint, with an opening 15-minute burst of dominance offensively and defensively from the side breaking the spirit of the opposition, finishing the quarter with a 6.2 score and holding our opponents to only 3 behinds putting the game beyond doubt.

Our key forwards in Tom McCormack, Jett Boxer and Stefan Lanzoni after quarter time were outstanding taking the most of every opportunity in front of goal. Charlie Kemp continues to grow as one of the standout players in the competition along with Ryan Lymn who was terrific all day through the midfield.

Post game traditionally is a celebration of the games result, Saturday was more than that , it was a celebration of a legacy, an acknowledgment of the current and a glimpse of the future. We will always stand on his shoulders.

See you at the footy.

B Grade Report Round 14 v Henley @ Campbelltown

On Saturday we played the equal top side Henley, our effort in this game was tremendous taking the game right up to them losing by 6 points.

I was extremely pleased how we stayed in the game for most of the match – this is something we have been working on as a group and the dividends nearly paid off in this game.

We started off well and keep that effort and pressure up all during the match, leading us in this way was El Murada and Adam Greenwood who played in the mid field all day – as we lost Tom Snowball early second quarter due to a knock to the head.

Our defence held up strongly with Riordan McNamara and Sam Hearn having good games – Jimmy McGuiness played well in defence, he played in the forwards in the second half and gave us an added target up there.

We welcomed back Luke Cogswell who again proved how valuable he is to us by playing well for four quarters.

Lewis Matsis again had a good day – his improvement this year has been terrific, and he also is a valuable member of this side.

Dylan Matthews also contributed up forward with three goals.

Final Scores: ROCs 5-6 def by Henley 5-12

Best – Murada, Greenwood, Cogswell, Hearn, Matsis.

Goals- 3/ Matthews, 1/Cogswell, 1/D. Huppatz.

C Grade Report Round 14 v Henley @ Campbelltown

What an awful month July has been for the C train. Let me start by thanking Chris Platten for stepping in for me, and Peter Clemente as team manager whilst we were away.

Injuries and Riviera travel for the month of July has hurt.

This game was always going to be tough. Henley have lost one game in three years and that’s to us. They were hungry and delivered. Credit to our lads they battled hard cannot fault effort and endeavour from the squad.

We lost JMac early and that hurt. Cook went into the ruck and battled hard all day. Draper started magically and got us going. The Warren brothers played their first match together and they were sensational. Josh Piantadosi ran all day and proved he’s up to the task.

The last quarter was a blow out where Henley scored 5 goals to zip and made them look better than the game reflected. Tom Hurley was BOG and was sensational then went to Adelaide oval and stitched up my beloved Port Adelaide team.

To my C squad it’s time to step up now and deliver what we showed earlier in the season. It’s starts by hitting the track.

Final Scores: ROCs 4-10 lost to Henley 12-11

Goal Kickers: Leggett, Condo, Hurley, McDonald.

Best Players: Hurley, M Warren, B Warren, S Warren, J Piantadosi, Draper

D Grade Report Round 14 v Princes @ Campbelltown

Rocs hosting perennial nemesis PAOC in a twilight fixture to end a fantastic "Sponsors Day" at Roc Park. Challenged again with the availability of players throughout the grades the Academy side managed to fill our team sheet by kick-off time. The first stanza produced passages of dominant team play by both sides with PAOC holding a slender 1pt lead. 1/4-time scores Rocs 2-2 vs PAOC 2-3. The second term had Rocs under constant pressure around the ground as PAOC took control of the contest. Rocs tried their best to keep in touch, but far better ball use & team structure had Prince's in charge at half time. 1/2-time scores Rocs 2-3 vs PAOC 4-8.

A great second half had Rocs in the game, with PAOC holding on to the lead & just doing enough to keep the never giving up Rocs at bay .

Final scores Rocs 4-7(31) def by PAOC 7-13(55)

Goalkickers- S. Adams -2, M. Zamparelli -1, A. Goodwin -1.

Best players- S. Tagg, L. Thoday, S. Adams, M. Lombardi, S . Bridge, S. Bowler.

Best team man - B. Warren/ W. McDonald

Congratulations on Huge contributions from our top 2 players - Fearless leader & champion player Sam Tagg (150 games) & 2nd gamer Luke Thoday as both produced outstanding contributions to try and inspire their teammates.

R12 v Salisbury North

We played at Rostrevor College on Saturday in perfect conditions. We farewelled Poppy Scaife in her last game of the season, and then rushed to the airport….. dedication!

It was a dominate performance that required guts and determination for all four quarters following injuries.

A big improvement this week was our ability to control the speed of the game by maintaining possession, and using the width and our running power.

We found time to lower our eyes, find targets to transition forward and create scoring opportunities. This was probably our best game for control and ball movement so far this season.

Forwards worked hard to create movement and space, creating multiple goal opportunities. Beth Ince worked tirelessly in the forward line to generate goals from repeat leads / efforts and finished with 3 goals. She worked along side fellow forwards Emily Hasler, who kicked two goals and Bella Simpson, who played forward and wing utilise her smarts and running ability on the outside.

Midfielders were a power house today. They were first to the ball and did a mountain of work due to low rotations. Sarah Catterwell was given the role on ball in the second half but has proven that she will play anywhere the team needs her.

The backline were structurally strong all game. Many intercept marks were taken by a Hilary Campbell and Hannah Ellis. Campbell proving experience and composure to align the team structurally and pounce when able to impact. A solid performance. Hannah Ellis put on her strongest performance so far this season. From half back, running off and transitioning forward. Ellis kicked a goal following 25m. Proving her goal kicking practice is paying off.

A strong team win to finish 7.9 (51) 1.0 (6)

Goal kickers: 3 Beth Ince, 2 Emilie Hasler, 1 Sophie Haines, 1 Hannah Ellis

Best Players: Bethany Ince, Hannah Ellis, Hilary Campbell, Sarah Catterwell, Bella Simpson
