A Grade Report Round 9 v Athelstone @ Athelstone
Saturday saw us take on Athelstone at their home ground in what was an extremely important game for us. As reported here in recent weeks our side has shown in the lead up to Saturday some significant improvement in the way we play and built some real belief.
This confidence and belief was evident in the first quarter of the game Saturday, with both sides controlling the ball for parts of the quarter we were able to absorb their pressure and show some determination and responded accordingly to finish off the quarter narrowly leading at the break.
After quarter time unfortunately we lost our way and failed to respond when our opponents began to take some control of the contest, even despite the margin being within reach at the main break and three-quarter time.
Taking nothing away from our opponent as they were too good on the day, but we cannot lose sight of the fact we continued throughout the game to create opportunities for ourselves which we unfortunately couldn’t take at critical moments. This is a learning we must take away from what was a disappointing result.
James Butterworth was outstanding on the day providing our mids with opportunities to control the ball as well as rebounding defensively all day. Dan McCallum was again assigned a huge job on one of their key playmakers controlling his impact on the contest and even managed to hit the scoreboard.
Charlie Kemp continued his outstanding form over the past month giving us a strong target up forward and generated a number of offensive attacks for us all day. James Warton again proved a handful for the opposition leading our clearance numbers inside and Tom McCormack up forward hit the scoreboard and created countless opportunities for us.
As mentioned, it was a disappointing loss but one, we need to learn from and move on quickly as we head into next week and the second half of the season.

B Grade Report Round 9 v Athelstone @ Athelstone
A disappointing result for us considering we have come off two good wins.
In the end the first quarter was the difference as the opposition kicked 4-2 to ROCs 0-2, from then on we outscored them but the damage was done.
We have started poorly most games this year which we need to rectify.
We had some good contributors for the day with Jackson Thomas continuing his good form and Sam Hearn also playing well in defence.
Jake Slivak and Lewis Matsis played well in the midfield, while Adam Whitehead played his best game for us this year in the ruck and up forward.
Stuart Greenslade also played well across half back.
Final Scores ROCs 3-9 def by Athelstone 7-8
Best Players- Jake Slivak, Lewis Matsis, Jackson Thomas, Stuart Greenslade and Adam Whitehead.
Goal Kickers – Dylan Matthews, Ky Haddad, Adam Whitehead.

C Grade Report Round 9 v Athelstone @ Athelstone
Well, what a big week in football. From our best performance to a major derailment. Let’s start at the beginning. Firstly, I apologise to all for a performance. Athelstone were hungrier more prepared and wanted to stick it to the top team and they certainly achieved that. As usual multiple changes at selection never helps. Losing two players to injury in the 3rd and 7 minute mark of the first quarter doesn’t help.
However, we were out muscled and we unfortunately panicked and lost our structures. Probably thinking we were invincible we weren’t prepared to do the hard work against a contender. They started well and we never got into the game. Their star forward kicked 3 in 15 minutes, and we made the move and put Jack L Haddad back who held him to 1 goal the rest of the game, well-done Jack.
Jack Draper and Mitch Warren worked tirelessly in the middle and never gave up and Tom O’Leary ran all day and gave us multiple drive.
Our backline held firm but unfortunately were under siege. Eric Luppino played his best game for the club, taking some nice marks and helping fill the gaps.
Overall, a very disappointing day out. However, if you had asked me where we would like to be 1/2 way thru the season I’ll take 8-1 and second on the ladder.
A special mention to Brad Warren who debut for us and did a very good job.
Stay on board better things to come.

D Grade Report Round 9 v Adelaide Uni @ Campbelltown
Rocs Academy hosted archrival Adelaide Uni with Mother Nature serving up some horrible conditions to start the game. Rocs were in trouble early as we kicked into a constant barrage of wind & rain as well as Uni running with confidence to create multiple forward plays with inaccurate shots on goal our only saviour. 1/4-time scores Rocs 1-0 vs Uni 2-7
Conditions changed for the rest of the contest, but the damage was done as Rocs tried to create scoring chances but couldn't finish off the extremely hard-working efforts from our defence. Once again, the team was greatly affected by major injuries to important playmakers with 3 done for the day by 1/2 time. The Rocs kept working hard but Uni were much more organised with their structure around contested possession & ran out comfortable winners.
Final scores Rocs 3-3(21) def by Adel Uni 8-14(62)
Goalkickers- S. Adams -2, P. Norris -1
Best players - S. Tagg, P. Fantasia, S. Adams, M. Lombardi, A. Condo.

LOSA MATCH REPORT R8 Modbury
We played our round 8 twilight match away, in muddy conditions against 4th placed Modbury. From the start Modbury were quick off the mark, working hard for front position and with real intent to attack the football. We found ourselves chasing in the first quarter, and lost our accountability and touch inside our back half as Modbury’s midfielders and forwards worked hard in front of goal. A quick goal from repeat efforts, had Modbury taking the lead.
In the second we had to focus on reading the ball early off the boot. This became difficult as our kicks were under pressure. Modbury’s strong defensive line up and forward pressure created multiple forward entries, scoring another goal. Modbury were getting on top of us in the stoppages with dominate ruck work and midfield efforts. LOSA’s midfielder Stephanie Principi showed true grit in and under, playing really desperate football as she tried to lift the team.
Hannah Osborn stood up in the third quarter by reading the rucks taps and attacking the ball as we tried to adjust. Around the ground our disposals were under pressure, pressure we had become accustomed to giving the opposing sides. We missed some opportunities when we got in between our player and our goals, off the back of some quick transition work. Half way through the match we lost key defender Hannah Sexton to a shoulder injury. Emilie Hasler and Amelia Kelly had a tough game, as they teamed up in the ruck. Hasler gave her all inside the forward line also, presenting and transitioning forward. In the backline Sarah Catterwell and Georgia Saggese read the play well, providing defensive intercept marking. A third goal for Modbury was kicked, needing a big final quarter by LOSA.
We made some changes at three quarter time to bring defender Catterwell on ball as a stronger body and wise head to try and improve clearances, as well as some other positional changes. Both teams evened up as scoring became harder with the quarter finishing goalless. A strong defensive effort from both teams, locked in Modbury as the 20-point victors.
A disappointing loss, but one we will learn from as we head into this weeks training with some new areas for improvement and a big game against second placed North Haven at Home Saturday 1st July, 4:45pm.
LOSA 0.2(2) defeated by Modbury 3.4(22)
