A Grade Report Round 8 v North Haven @ Campbelltown

Saturday saw us take on an opposition searching for a win on our home deck after a bye. The conditions were predicted to be wet and challenging and for a change the forecasters got it right. After witnessing the C & B Grade both run away convincing winners and in front of a strong faithful crowd including some club legends the scene was set.

Over the past month the group had showed real improvement with strong performances, but we had yet to string back-to-back wins and after a solid week on the track the focus was again a fast start.

As expected, the conditions created a highly contested stoppage encounter with players from both sides working hard to maintain control of the ball.

We were again able to generate early scoreboard pressure from the first bounce, with the game for the first three quarters played predominantly in our front half. Our back 6 worked tirelessly rebounding time and time again creating opportunities for repeat entries into our forward 50. The positive inside 50 count was a reflection of this and in the trying conditions illustrated our control of the game.

Despite being a man down early in the game we were able to hold out the opposition finishing with the match with a pleasing 34-point win.

Not surprisingly there were players such as Tim Baccanello and Stefan Lanzoni who revelled in the conditions both creating a headache from the opposition all afternoon.

Charlie Kemp dominated the air with his strong contested marking and elite ground ball work providing us with a target and finished off his work with a couple of clutch goals.

Dan McCallum showed his versatility as a player in a tagging role again this week which saw him restrict his opponent to zero influence on the game and provide us with countless rebounds and clearances. Ryan Lymn continued his rich vein of form this season dominating the midfield for four quarters, ably supported by James Butterworth who again worked tirelessly all day giving us first use.

Tom O’Malley returning to the side after an injury and as a member of the back 6 led from the front intercepting, switching the play and pressuring the opposition all afternoon and was the standout player on the ground.

We now look to continue our growth with yet another opportunity next week.

Final Score : ROCFC 8.14 (62) defeated North Haven 4.4 (28)

B Grade Report Round 8 v North Haven @ Campbelltown

Considering the places  on the premiership table it’s a win we would have expected to have.

But that aside we were pleased how we approached the game and how we increased our lead every quarter in somewhat trying conditions.

We welcomed in two Norwood under 18s Connor Butcher and Calem Krollig who made their debuts for the club, the two players are Old Collegians, and both played extremely well.

In a game where we dominated the scoreboard, our defence played extremely well, with Riordan McNamara, and Nick Karagich leading the way.

Our midfield was led by our Captain Jake Slivak – who is growing as a leader and the club welcomed back Dylan Reinbrecht after a break, Dylan’s leadership and experience helped with this young group which I thank him for.

Another pleasing aspect of the game that we kick 16 goals – in that we had 10 goal kickers,

A big challenge this week, playing Athelstone at Athelstone.

Final Score: ROCs 16.13 (109) def North Haven 1.3 (9)

Best Players: Dylan Reinbrecht, Nick Karagich, Riordan McNamara, Jake Slivak and Callum Krollig.

Goal Kickers: Jake Slivak, Dillon Huppatz, Dylan Reinbrecht, Dylan Fitzsimons, Dylan Matthews, Stuart Greenslade 2 each. Jason Cavuoto, Tom Bradford, Nick Karagich, Tom Snowball 1 each.

C Grade Report Round 8 v North Haven @ Campbelltown

This was our best team performance all year. No passengers and too many good players to name in this report.

As we build towards the 1/2-way mark of the season I can reflect on how far we have advanced as a team. Unfortunately, our opponents were very average, but you can only beat what’s put in front of us. The highlight for me was pushing young Hamish Shute forward and him kicking his first goal for us.

Another big game this week playing Athelstone away who are 3rd on the ladder, our  team is humming nicely but the overseas travelling will play its part in the coming weeks.

Get aboard, “the C train“ is coming.

Final Scores: ROCFC 27-15 (177) def North Haven 1-2 (8)

Goal Kickers: Mitch Warren 4, Zac Aufderheide 4, Tim Lewis 3, Nick Platten 3, Vince Clemente 3, Jacob Scutella 2, Jordan Huppatz 2, Lewis Matsis 2, Hamish Shute, Amer Elhosni, Ky Haddad and Justin McInerney 1 each.

D Grade Report Round 8 v Modbury @ Modbury

ROCS on the road again this week taking on Modbury with intermittent rainy periods throughout the game. Modbury Hawks took control of early play & kept the scoreboard ticking over with dominant players running riot all over a struggling Rocs. The Rocs kept working hard to create some fluent play & stopped the Hawks control of the contest booting back-to-back goals & kept our pressure at maximum effort to keep in touch with the Hawks. 1/4-time scores Rocs 2-0 vs Modbury 6-3. Rocs kept working hard to create teamwork and pressure around the contested ball & keeping in touch during the second term on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, a couple of injuries to important playmakers affected our game from late in the half & Rocs were overrun by the Hawks after halftime.

Final scores Rocs 6-2 (38) def by Modbury 19-8 (122)

Goal Kickers: Steve Marotti 1, Christian Pietrafesa 1, Paul Norris 1, Pete Sianis 1, Scott Adams 1 and Felix Brasher 1.

LOSA Round 7 Match Report

The game against Edwardstown was a grand final rematch against last years Division 6 Premiers. The wet weather had set in for our twilight game, but that didn’t dampen the teams spirits.

We set the pace early, winning contested balls across the ground. Bella Simpson was impressive finding plenty of touch at stoppages and on transition, through smart running and positioning. Simpson also kicked a goal to reward herself and the team for their efforts. Forward entry kicks were finding targets with a focus this week on lowering the eyes. Even in the wet, there was some good clean passages of play linked up to transition the ball forward. More discipline with structures from the second quarter assisted in maintaining possession in our front half. Amber Swanbury played her first game for LOSA after a preseason injury, showing plenty of dash and confidence to take on the opposition. She finished with a goal, after some hard running and a great handball under pressure by Ivancic

The forward line looked dangerous especially across half forward, providing deep entries and scoring opportunities. Sophie Haines kicked two goals, and created her opportunities from repeat efforts. Emilie Hasler had another strong game, with her contested marking abilities and her team first attitude through score assists.

With wet weather footy comes a mountain of work to be done around on the ball. It wasn’t always clean, but it was the midfields repeated efforts that impressed. Hannah Osborn is proving her worth as she continues to grow each week as a midfielder.

Edwardstown had some tall players, requiring LOSA’s rucks, key position forwards and backs to bring their physicality. Paired with a quick midfield, they put our back six under significant pressure at times. LOSA defenders were disciplined with positioning, and only gave up 1-point for the match. Sarah Catterwell and Hilary Campbell often reading the play early and intercepting.

Team pressure was evident early and was a key part of our win. It was LOSA’s first win against Edwardstown, a quality team who have been impressive and moving up the ladder. Now at the halfway point of the minor rounds, the team is continuing to improve each week. I saw more team acts this week with shepherds, blocks and score assists. The teams ability to hit targets has improved, while also starting to understand the benefits in controlling the speed of the game with kick/mark possessions. A strong 28-point win in the wet. The second half of the season becomes so important as only percentage separates us from ladder leaders Woodville South and one game from third placed North Haven.

We play 5th placed Modbury away next round.

Goals: Sophie Haines 2, Bella Simpson 1, Amber Swanbury 1

Best Players: Bella Simpson, Sarah Catterwell, Sophie Haines, Emilie Hasler, Hilary Campbell

LOSA 4.5(29) defeated Edwardstown 0.1(1)
