A Grade Report Round 7 v Adelaide University @ Campbelltown

In what is fast becoming a very tight competition it was important to respond from the narrow loss last week out home.

One of our focus points as a side each week is to get off to a “Fast Start and gain scoreboard pressure” . The opening 15 min of the first quarter on Saturday was just that. We controlled the ball for that period kicking 5 unanswered goals in a confidence building display. Which set the tone for the game.

As in many games it is a challenge to control the game for the full 120 min and to our opponents credit, they managed to gain the momentum from mostly centre bounce clearance to dilute our scoreboard pressure.

What was extremely pleasing was the players absorbed this momentum shift and continued to play our way until we again regained control which resulted in a burst of 8 unanswered goals to enable us to gain a significant lead at the three-quarter time break.

The final quarter was an arm wrestle from both sides which finally saw us run away with a pleasing 41-point win.

Our back six was led  in dominant fashion by Tullio De Matteis with 43 possessions off half back and Kane Cini giving us rebound and penetration into our front half where Charlie Kemp controlled the air with an outstanding display of marking, ably assisted by Tom McCormack (3 goals) and Jett Boxer, who put on a match winning display of contested marking and goal kicking, kicking 5 goals and almost taking  mark of the year. Ryan Lymn continues to impress as a specialist tagger through the midfield who finds his own ball and managed this week to hit the scoreboard with 2 goals.

The end result was a pleasing win with contributions from all players including debutants in Max Daw and Tom Snowball.

We move into a well-earned break with still a lot to work on but we will look to consolidate after the bye in yet another opportunity to continue to improve.

Final Score : ROCFC 15.11 (101) defeated Adelaide University 9.6 (60)

Goal Kickers: J. Boxer 5, T. McCormack 3, F. Kernahan 2, R. Lymn 2, S. Lanzoni, P. Dawson & M. Daw 1

B Grade Report Round 7 v Adelaide University @ Campbelltown

A result that we have been striving for and working towards for a couple weeks, with the way we want to play.

Although when reviewing this game, it was all encompassing it had the good the very good and the not so good!

Our start was “not so good”, we drifted off from what we know and what we want to do as a group, so we had to reset at quarter time, so ‘the good’ was we levelled up in the second quarter.

Our second half had all the aspects “the very good” of playing  the way we strive for as a side – clean disposal, run, structure in front and behind the ball, voice, enthusiasm, discipline and clearance work.

The most pleasing aspect to this win is the ownership that the playing group are undertaking which all coaches strive for and want.

A game that we had many contributors particularly in the second half, although two players played well all match – Tom Bradford clearly was best on ground with his clearance work, run and disposal was excellent, Stuart Greenslade played another great game in defence and Adam Greenwood played well as a high forward/Mid. Thomas Jackson also played well in defence his surety with ball in hand was good, especially in the second half.

Lewis Matsis, Pat Baldwin, Ky Haddad, Dylan Huppatz and Dylan Matthews also showed glimpses of what we know these lads are capable of.

Final Scores. ROCs 11.10 def Adel Uni 9.9

Best Players – Tom Bradford, Stuart Greenslade, Jackson Thomas, Lewis Matsis and Adam Greenwood.

Goal Kickers – Tom Bradford, Jason Cavuoto, Ky Haddad, Pat Baldwin x 2 each, Lewis Matsis, Adam Whitehead, Dylan Matthews x 1 each.

C Grade Report Round 7 v Adelaide University @ Campbelltown

Best half of footy we’ve played this year. Conditions were warm we lost 2 players the night before, so we were limited on our bench. Again, the train boomed out of the gate. We certainly let Uni know we were here to win . It was 2 v 4 so game on. Jimmy Jordon (golden ticket holder) joined us for the first time, Dan Franzon, Scott Gilbert and Mitch Warren came back in our line-up. The team effort was outstanding. Vince Clemente’s first half was the best footy I’ve seen him play, and we had contributors all over the park. Darren Leggett went down early with a knee, and we lost Clemente at half time with an ankle. But by half time we had complete control.

Mitch Warren stepped up in the middle, and Paul Fantasia and Nick Platten were outstanding up forward. Our back line was again magnificent with Jack Hill providing great rebound defence.

Lawson Nitschke ran all day on his wing, and Hamish Shute debut for us and again showed me what great depth we have.

Down to 19 players at half time I thought we put on one of our best performances this season. Well done to all concerned, get on board the “C train “ is coming.

Final Scores: ROCs 14-7 d AU 5-10

Goal Scorers: Fantasia 5, Platten 4, Jordon 2, Gilbert, Clemente, Leonard.

Best Players: M Warren, Platten, Fantasia, Hill, Nitschke.

D Grade Report Round 7 v Prince Alfred Old Collegians

ROCS on the road this week taking on fierce rivals PAOC on another great day for footy. The first half was very exhausting for Rocs as we were always a step behind around the ground with Prince's better decision making leaving us floundering for any cohesion to stop their scoreboard ticking over. The Rocs kept working hard to create chances & never stopped trying against the many "things not going our way" 1/2 time scores Rocs 0-6(6) trailing PAOC 6-5(41)

Starting the 2nd half with their confidence high Prince's were into attack and scoring, thinking of an easy win & not expecting Rocs to match them for the remainder of game. The Red & Blacks kept working hard and were still giving their absolute best until the final siren. A very pleasing effort from the Academy side playing 4qtrs of disciplined team football & working hard against the huge pressure applied by much higher ranked PAOC.

Final scores Rocs 4-9(33) def by PAOC 11-9(75)

Goalkickers- P. Norris -1, S. Bridge -1, S. Marotti -1, J. Thoday -1

Best players - B. Warren, S. Bridge, J. Varley, J. Piantadosi, T. DuBois.

Best team man - J. Tarca.

LOSA Report - Round 6 vs Woodville South - Friday night @ Campbelltown

In a top of the table clash against Woodville South, we knew this game would require all players to contribute for four quarters.

For the first quarter both teams were evenly matched, neither giving an inch. Around the ball,  Olivia Law again worked hard both offensively and defensively. Working with mids Steph Principe and Hannah Osborne. Osborne had her first run in the middle this season, and was coming off a great performance last week and had touch early. Scoring proved difficult. LOSA was the only team to score by the end of Q1, even if it was a singular point.

Both teams were strong defensively and missed some opportunities in front of goal. Sophie Haines continued to present and be a key link at CHF when transitioning. Haines goaled from a mark inside 50, and ensured LOSA went into the long break with a lead, albeit only by 2 points. Hannah Sexton and Hilary Campbell had a run with role, but also played off their opposition to turn the ball over and create opportunities. Down by 2 points in the final break, the team needed to convert the forward entries into scores on the board.

Some structural changes were made to open up space in the forward line, which created an opportunity for Olivia Herde to goal. WS replied with their own and put us behind by 2 points

Minnie Turner worked hard again this week on the wing, ducking and weaving through traffic. Emilie Hasler stood up with some more time in ruck and became influential in the final 17mins. LOSA controlled a lot of the play, but Woodville South were persistent. WS missed a late opportunity to take back the lead resulting in LOSA being 3 points up and about 4 minutes to go. It became crucial that we controlled the speed of the game. The immense pressure from both teams, resulted in repeat stoppages, ensuring no easy or quick balls would come out. The final siren sounded and sealed the win in a high pressure and hotly contested game.

Players from both sides should be acknowledged for their efforts, and the way they played / conducted themselves considering the pressure.

Very impressive to see our team respond with a strong win against a high quality opposition team, after a scrappy week, and to show continued improvement as the season progresses.

LOSA 2.5(17) defeated Woodville South 2.2(14)

Goals: Sophie Haines, Olivia Herde

Best Players: Emile Hasler, Olivia Law, Hannah Sexton, Minnie Turner, Hilary Campbell
