A Grade Report Round 2 v Edwardstown @ Campbelltown.

A positive response was the focus leading into our first home game of the season and that was what we produced.

The urgency and willingness to execute was evident from the opening bounce with contributions coming from all players across the ground early which set the tone. The ball movement was a step up from round 1 with a noticeable improvement in our pressure and intensity.

Our back 6 held shape all day which enabled us to set up strong defensive transition with Kane Cini in particular leading from the front and producing a four-quarter effort.

Some minor forced adjustments at the main break and a resolve to build on the first half saw us produce our best quarter for the game holding our opposition to just 2 points from 6 entries and moving to a 5 goal lead at three quarter time.

The final quarter saw the momentum shift back to Edwardstown from an ascendency around stoppage. The ability for our lads to absorb the pressure and then respond with a three goal burst sealing the game was a real positive from the final quarter.

It was terrific to respond and get some reward for effort in front of our home crowd which will give us some confidence and belief moving into our next opportunity in round 3.

Players who provided tremendous contributions over the course of the game included Kane Cini down back, James Butterworth in ruck, James Warton making his first appearance for the year as well as Ryan Lymn and Will Mead. Just outside the votes was Jett Boxer with his 4 goals, Charlie Kemp & Patrick Dawson.

Final Scores: ROCs 11.7 (73) def Edwardstown 6.10 (46)

Goal Kickers: J. Boxer 4, S. Lanzoni 2, M. Dnistriansky, C. Kemp, W. Mead, T. McCormack & L. Manuel 1 each.

Best Players: K. Cini, J. Butterworth, J. Warton, R. Lymn, W. Mead

We look to next week with a real resolve and belief.

See you at the footy.

B Grade Report Round 2 v Edwardstown @ Campbelltown.

Our first home game produced our first win for the season.

Overall, the result was pleasing as I do believe we controlled the match for most of the four quarters

We are as a group starting to execute a club game plan which suits our players who have also bought into this, which is very pleasing.

Even though we did control the game at times our indifferent goal kicking in the second half kept the opposition in the game we kicked 3-12 in the second half.

We had many good contributors – across all lines during the game.

Jimmy McGuiness and Hugh Strickland (who made a club debut) played well in defence.

Our midfield had many rotations throughout the game – Elliott Murada, Tom Bradford and Harry Wright were consistent all day.

Good games from Luke Cogswell and Dylan Fitzsimmons added to the strength of the mid-field

The forward line is taking shape with a couple of terrific games from Ferghus Kernahan 3 goals and Tom Cusack 2 goals (who made his debut for the club – Tom adds to many players from the school)

Final Scores: ROCS 9-12 def Edwardstown 8-11

Best Players: Elliott Murada, Ferghus Kernahan, Hugh Strickland, Tom Bradford and Harry Wright.

Goal Kickers: Ferghus Kernahan 3, Tom Cusack 2, Sam Hearn, Jackson Thomas Max Daw and Dylan Fitzsimmons 1 each.

C Grade Report Round 2 v Edwardstown @ Campbelltown.

First game at home for the year we came up against an unknown opponent in Edwardstown. They had just lost to Henley the week previous by a small margin and Henley haven’t lost a game in 2 years. I went to mass on Wednesday night and looked for help and it came in the form of our inclusions, Nick Murphy and Scott Gilbert former A grade players joined us and provided great help in valued leadership.

The usual Friday morning magnet shuffle allowed Max Mackay and Jacob Scutella to join us from the B grade along with Tom Snowball. We started with 7 on the bench and to be brutally honest the game should have been over by 1/4 time. Bad kicking is bad football and now 2 games in a row we blew it. While never in doubt we slogged out the win.

Eric Luppino played his best game for the club showing what a great preseason can achieve, Ky Haddad continues his very good form, and Nick Murphy was a blessing up forward kicking 4 goals 8 behinds. Amer Elhosni played centre and was tough all day. Jayden Smith has become an elite runner off our wing and didn’t stop running all day.

Final Scores: ROCs 8-14-62 def Edwardstown 5-3-33

Goals Kickers: N. Murphy 4, S. Warren 2, D. Leggett & Ky Haddad 1 each

Best Players: J. Smith, A. Elhosni, N. Murphy, Ky Haddad, E. Luppino

Get on “ the C train “ see you next week.

D Grade Report Round 2 v Adelaide University @ University

Fantastic conditions for football again this week as Rocs travelled into the City of Churches taking on fierce traditional rivals Adelaide Uni.

Fast paced footy was on display as both sides had their chance dominating general play during the opening qtr. with Uni on top as Rocs wasted several easy shots on goal. Uni also were better around the contested ball, using quick handball to leave Rocs flat-footed & chasing jumpers to set up easy shots on goal. 1/4-time scores. Rocs 1-4 trailing Uni 3-1.

Rocs adjusted our contested possession work rate & better tackling gave us some time & space to use the ball much better around the ground and stormed forward outscoring Uni until the 3/4 time break. Scores Rocs 8-5 vs Uni 7-7.

Unfortunately, the last stanza was all about Uni as Rocs ran out of puff & could not answer on the scoreboard as Uni over worked us to win by 12pts.

Final Scores: Rocs 9-6 (60) def by Adelaide Uni 10-12 (72)

Goal Kickers: S. Marotti -3, J. Today -2, J. Huppatz -2, D. Huppatz -1, C. Brasher.

Best Players: B. Warren, S. Marotti, S. Emanuelle, J. Thoday, D. Huppatz.

Best team man: J. Huppatz.

Many thanks to a couple of Rocs College boys on loan during holidays Max Aufderheide & Lachie Tripodi helping out the D grade Invitational side & playing some fantastic footy.

LOSA Report Round 2 v North Haven (over the Bridge.)

Congratulations to Hilary Campbell, Abbie Deegan, and Hannah Osborne who played their debut game for LOSA. Campbell played her first game after a season off recovering from an ACL injury.

In our first away game of the season we faced North Haven who were coming off a dominate performance in Round 1. The first quarter set the scene for a game that was going to be very physical and highly contested on a very narrow oval. North Haven scored early and also missed some opportunities in front of goal. We responded through some direct play with Poppy Scaife on the receiving end of a string of kicks. Stephanie Principe was given a sacrificial lock down defender role for the day and proved she was committed to the challenge from the beginning.

The second quarter was much like the first with both teams scoring a goal each. This time through LOSA mid/forward Sophie Haines. We needed to open up the ground and utilise the space, but North Haven were a strong contested marking side and often swung a player behind the ball to quickly transition forward on turnover. LOSA continued to support each other around the ground and won our fair share of contested possessions however often struggled to dispose of efficiently due to North Havens ability to pressure our ball winners. Hilary Campbell had a strong first half with her ability to read the play and take intercept marks.

We went into the third quarter 3-points behind. North Haven continued to out body our players as we were often unable to find sufficient space to run into. With the backline under pressure, they did well to keep North Haven to 1 goal 3, while we finished the quarter adding 1 point to our score. Poppy Scaife and Olivia Law teamed up well to win and feed the ball from congestion. When we were able to get the ball out with width quickly we were able to transition forward. Opposition defenders made scoring challenging, keeping us to another single point for the final quarter. Abbie Deegan finished the game with some strong contested possessions and delivered the ball well to her team mates. North Haven kicked 3 goals and skipped away the victors.

Really happy that no matter the score, the physical intensity and often brutish style of the game, our players did not stop putting their over the ball and supporting each other when needed.

Special mentions to Captain Amelia Kelly and co-Vice Captain Hannah Sexton, who battled a majority of the day in ruck in a stoppages heavy game. And second gamer Issy Burdon, who was thrown on ball, and on the wing using her pace to be first to the ball almost everyone time.

Final Scores: North Haven 6.6 (42) def LOSA 2.2 (14)

Goal Kickers: Poppy Scaife 1, Sophie Haines 1.

Best Players: Poppy Scaife, Stephanie Principe, Hilary Campbell, Olivia Law, Abbie Deegan.
