R18 Coaches Report
A's B's & C's vs Goodwood Saints
A Grade Report – R18
The A Grade faced Goodwood Saints at the Quarry in what was now our most important game for the year, as a win would guarantee our position in Division 1 next year and a loss would mean that we would be relying on Port Districts inflicting a loss on St Ignatius who had a better percentage. We had a narrow loss to them away in the last round and were confident we could beat them at home with our strongest team on the park.
The first quarter was a tight affair in boggy conditions, with both teams defending well. Even though we were on top in the ruck with Butters giving us first use of the ball it was hard work getting the ball out of stoppages, even though our onballers were taking first possession, Dylan Reinbrecht in particular. We did however set up several opportunities with Murphy marking strongly at full forward, but unfortunately he was not able to finish off his good work. There were a lot of contributors pushing the ball forward through Lymn, McCormack, Reinbrecht, Fanta and Glover. The backline were working strongly with Charlie Jordan playing an attacking role at halfback pushing the ball forward at ever opportunity. Overall a solid start, with plenty of contributors all over the ground, even though there were some doubtful free kicks paid against us, stopping some good passages of play going forward the scores could have been a little different.
Scores ROCS – 1.3 Goodwood Saints – 2.3
The second quarter was again a tight struggle again, but Goodwood finished off their inside fifty movement better than us and kicked away from us with the help again from some border line free kicks. We did not help ourselves with again missed opportunities in front of goal.
Scores ROCS – 1.5 Goodwood Saints – 5.4
The third quarter was again another tight struggle with Goodwood attacking in the first fifteen minutes for little result from a lot of opportunities up forward. We started well with Lewie getting on top at centre half forward to help us go forward with Paddy getting an early goal and Murphy getting on top late in the quarter with two goals to put us back in the game. Great defending by Swanny, Vorrasi, Jordan with our onballers Butters, Mead, Reinbrecht, Warton and Baccanello working hard at the stoppages, the game was set up for a great last quarter. It was fair to say that the whole side had lifted with everyone working hard for every ball.
Scores ROCS – 4.7 PNU – 5.13
The fourth quarter saw us attack the ball with purpose and move the ball into the forward line time and time again with two good goals to Paddy. We were on top every were except on the score board, which wasn’t helped again by inconsistent and poor umpire decisions. Murphy worked hard but again was being held when going for the ball and should have got two free kicks late in the quarter. Cini, Swanbury, Glover and Mead played very well in this quarter trying very hard to lift the side. Unfortunately, Goodwood made the most of the opportunities in the forward line and finished off their work better than us.
Final Scores ROCS – 6.7 Goodwood Saints – 8.16
Best Players – Hayden Swanbury, Will Mead, James Butterworth, Dylan Reinbrecht Peter Vorrasi, Nick Murphy
Best Team Man – Charlie Jordan
Goal Scorers –Dawson 3, Murphy 2, Fantasia 1

B Grade summary for the year 2022.
Even though the results did not go to plan this year, I was still proud of the way the B grade players fought the year out.
This year we used 54 players which is extraordinary number in any year in any side! This did reflect the frustration on getting a consistent side on the park during the year, hence effecting some of our results.
But even with this I thank the playing group for their support and persistence, in particular to our two co-Captains in Josh Massie (who played half the year in the A grade) and Jack Draper.
We had many new players this year, and also two players who have played their last B grade games in Chris Ash and Elliot Shirley, I thank them for the efforts not only this year but past seasons as well.
Special mention to the following players for their good performances -
Dylan Fitzsimmons, Jarrad Ball, Joe Tarca who performed consistently all season.
Sam Hearn, Harrison Twiggs, Sam Warren, Riordan McNamara who improved their games to become regular B graders.
New players to the club – Jake Slivak, Tom Bradford, Stuart Greenslade, Mackenzie Best, (these players made it to A grade this year) – they are the future of the club and quality lads who I believe in years to come with hard work will be regular A graders. Olly Piro although had some injuries this year also has a bright future, as well as Tom Snowball.
Special thanks to Ben Moyle who was the runner and assistant coach, Mark Twiggs – Manager – and Eugene Evans when he could help out on the bench as well.
Round 18 Final Scores ROCS 1.1 Goodwood 9.14
Best Players – Nick Karagich, Riordan McNamara, Sam Hearn, Adam Greenwood, Tom Snowball.

Thanks to Bob Holland and Pat Bowler who gave me the opportunity to coach this year. These two mighty men who have served the club for many years and deserve much praise.
To all the parents that helped during the year – the volunteers – managers – runners and assistant coaches, thank you so much.
To my fellow coaches well done as it was at times a frustrating year – Stevo Edwards who always puts a smile to my face – Tony Franzon who at times we locked horns but I know we both have only good intentions for this mighty club.
And finally, thanks to Ben Watkins who taught me so much and I felt the support from him all year.
Look forward to a successful 2023 season.

C Grade Report – R18
Last game of the year and finally some players joined us from up above. With a full team to select we went into the game with some confidence that we can knock off the top team Goodwood Saints. We started well but unfortunately, we were out gunned and out classed. The boys busted their guts, tried hard but unfortunately just weren’t good enough. I asked our stars to step up and Lewis Matsis, Amer Elhosni and Gabe Burden all didn’t disappoint. They all had great moments throughout the match. Mitch Warren joined us and was sensational in the middle and hopefully hasn’t played his last game for us. He is taking some time to further his career and we all wish him the best and please don’t be a stranger. The most positive part of the game was the emergence of young gun Dillon Huppatz, I think Stevo has been hiding him, but I think bigger and better footy is ahead for this lad. To John Lewis, Jazbo Varley, Tim Lewis and Daniel Franzon thank you all for your support and help. To all the players thank you for the season, and I apologise to you all that I couldn’t get you higher up the ladder. With a good preseason we can make finals. See you all at presentation night, and thanks again to everyone involved
