A Grade Report – R16
The A grade played Old Ignatians in what was a must win game for both clubs. As one of our oldest rivals it also makes for a great day on the balcony at the Quarry.
The boys started very well again with pressure on the opposition from the first bounce and plenty of inside 50’s in the first 15 mins. Scoreboard pressure as we have shown over the last couple of weeks means a great deal in games such as these. Early goals to Murphy, Dawson & Fantasia gave us the early lead which we didn’t give up all day. Old Iggies fought back a couple of times in the 1st Q and kept themselves in the game with a goal after the siren to end the quarter.
Quarter Time: ROCs 5.2 v Old Iggies 3.0
The second quarter was a hard physical encounter with very little given or taken, both sides defended well and made their limited opportunities going forward count. Again, the stoppages were important, and we won more than our share and restricted their ball movement well particularly out of their defence. I thought we controlled the quarter but again we let the opposition in with a goal in the last 30 seconds of the quarter.
Half Time: ROCs 7.2 v Old Iggies 5.0
The third quarter we started to control the game, and have it played on our terms, again pressure around the ball was fantastic and we didn’t give Iggies any easy clearances either around the stoppages or out of defence. We started winning most positions around the ground and when we started putting scoreboard pressure on it opened the game right up. Our midfield was dominant and with Dan McCallum controlling the game across half back and through the middle we looked as good as we have all year. James Warton and Tim Baccanello took the ball forward with ease and we hit the scoreboard on a regular basis. A match winning quarter.
Three Quarter Time: ROCs 12.5 v Old Iggies 6.2
The final quarter started just as we had hoped kicking the first two goals to open up a 51-point lead and put the game out of reach for the opposition. However, Old Iggies kicked the next three goals to give themselves some hope, but we responded with goals of our own to make sure we maintained a strong lead. We again played the last half of this quarter on our terms and controlled the game through to the final siren. An excellent win against a side who had beaten us earlier in the season.
Final Scores: ROCs 16.9 (105) def Old Iggies 11.4 (70)
Best Players – Dan McCallum, James Warton, Tim Baccanello, Will Mead & Lewis McCormack
Goal Kickers – Nic Murphy 5, Paddy Dawson 3, Paul Fantasia 2, James Warton 2, Will Mead, Tullio De Matteis, Charlie Kemp & Josh Massie 1 each.
Next Saturday we play top of the table side Port Districts away, it’s a water bottle trip down to the Port but we would love to see as many of you as possible to support the boys.

B Grade Report - R16
Firstly, congrats to the A grade on a mighty win.
Also well done to LOSA in reaching the Grand Final in their first year. Well done to the players – Coach Rob Dawson and the Franzon family for their efforts.
We played the top side at home and equipped ourselves well in the first half but could not stop the momentum by the opposition in the second half.
We had some good contributors over the course of the game – James McGuiness played well from half back winning his position all day. Stuart Greenslade was our best midfielder and battled well all day.
McKenzie Best played his best game for us so far and had to ruck most of the day due to Harrison Twiggs getting injured. Sam Warren and Sam Hearn continued their good form and played their role all day.
Final Scores: ROCs 4-3 Old Iggs 15-9
Best Players – James McGuiness, Stuart Greenslade, McKenzie Best, Sam Warren, and Sam Hearn.
Goal Kickers – Sam Warren, Chris Ash, Mitch Warren, John Harrison.

C Grade Report – R16
This was a ‘must win’ game for the C Grade in order to play finals in 2022. It was always going to be a tough encounter against Old Ignatians who are sitting in fourth place on the ladder. We were one game behind SPOC who are currently fifth on the ladder, and therefore this was our last ray of hope! We started off slowly in the first quarter allowing Old Ignatians to kick some cheap goals and leading by 16 points at quarter time. We then ‘came to play’ booting 5 goals straight in the second quarter with scores even at half time.
It was a pretty even third quarter with Old Ignatians leading by 6 points at the three-quarter time break. Unfortunately, in the last quarter we dropped our pressure and intensity resulting in Old Ignatians kicking 6 unanswered goals. This was extremely disappointing as the final score line of Old Ignatians 13-12-90 to Rostrevor OC 7-4-46 did not accurately reflect the closeness of the teams for the majority of the match. I could not fault the effort of the boys; however, it has been a characteristic of our season that we rarely play four good quarters in a game.
In terms of better players, this was a little difficult as we had a very even contribution from all of the team. Gabriel Burden’s outstanding year continued with an excellent form whether it was on the ball or centre half back. Lachie Spehr was solid all day with his commitment to the ball and never gave up. Nick Platten was dangerous all day kicking two goals and his speed and skills was an asset to the team. Lewis Matsis is a talented player who again showed his class with a faultless display as a rover and half forward. Justin McInerney worked tirelessly in the ruck all day and Jack Hill was a livewire on the half back flank.
Best: Gabriel Burden, Lachlan Spehr, Nick Platten, Lewis Matsis, Justin McInerney, Jack Hill.
Goal Scorers: Nick Platten 2, Josh O’Leary, Lachlan Spehr, Ky Haddad, Gabriel Burden, Dylan Matthews.

D Grade Report – R17
Rocs Academy travelled to the City Parklands to challenge the C7 ladder leaders Old Iggies. A huge task to be competitive & play to our strengths for the full 4 qtrs. Kicking into a handy breeze Rocs struggled to keep in touch but still managed to stay in the contest and worked hard together against the top side.
1/4-time scores Rocs 2-2 vs Old Iggies 5-2.
The 2nd stanza was a dour affair with Rocs struggling to use the wind to advantage & despite our best team efforts trailed by 4 goals at the long break.
1/2-time scores Rocs 3-3 vs Old Iggies 7-3.
The second half produced a mirror image of the first half as both combatants kicked the same goal score to finish the match.
Final score Rocs 6-5 def by Old Iggies 14-9.
