R13 Coaches Report &f Fight against MND

A's B's & C's vs TTG; LOSA vs Uni and D's bye

A Grade Report – R13

The A Grade faced Tea Tree Gully at home in what was now our most important game for the year, as both teams were on equal points and we had beaten them on their home ground in the previous round. As the Gullies had been beaten heavily the week before by SPOC, we saw this as a great opportunity to bring up another win. We had six changes from last week with Lewis McCormack, Luke Manual back from long-term injury, Brad Lymn, Daniel Carbone, Tom O'Malley from injury, Macauley Glover from Norwood for his first game. The outs were Nick Karagich, James McGuinness out to covid, Tim Baccanello unavailable, Dylan Fitzsimmons, Tom Bradford, Kane Cini omitted back to the B grade.

The first quarter was disappointing due to a lack of conversions from our first three scoring shots being points. We were not clean or accountable for their players on the outside, which gave the Gullies easy forward movement and made it hard for our backline with the sheer weight of numbers coming through the Centre. The Gullies were accurate for goal and made the most of their inside fifty opportunities. Unfortunately, we weren't as clean and accurate going forward and squandered opportunities in front of goal. We had eight opportunities to score with a one goal four points return to the Gullies five goals three behinds for equal inside 50s. The best contributors to this point were Warton, Mead, Dawson and Grover.

Scores ROCS – 1.4 Tea Tree Gully – 5.3

The second quarter saw our backline fumbling and being out marked; with three free kicks in front of goal, saw the Gullies score three easy goals. Our skill level let us down going forward into the forward line and our lack of talk, communication and accountability, saw the Gullies transfer the ball out of stoppages from behind to set up forward opportunities. Even though it was an even contest for the first 20 minutes we could not gain any ascendancy on the scoreboard even though we had more opportunities.

Scores ROCS – 5.7 Tea Tree Gully– 9.6

The third quarter was our best quarter and if it wasn't for two unlucky shots at goal by Dawson and Fanta, we could have had four goals on the board without a reply, which would have changed whole complexion of the game to our advantage. We were doing well in the ruck, winning most of the taps, to give us first use of the ball through Warton, Mead and Grover, with Lewis McCormack presenting well and our other forwards working hard to gain control. We were getting on top and had 18 inside 50s to 12 which showed our dominance. The difference was that the Gullies were very accurate and goaled on every opportunity.

Scores ROCS – 9.11 Two Tree Gully– 15.7

The fourth quarter was a tight struggle but again the Gullies were clean and first to the ball and even though we were winning the rucks the Gullies were winning the stoppages. Too many turnovers at critical moments when we were attacking cost us dearly to the tune of three goals. Again, the Gullies were very accurate and goaled from every opportunity.

Final Scores ROCS - 13.14 Tea Tree Gully– 19.9

Best Players –James Warton, Daniel McCullum, Macaulay Glover, Will Mead and Hayden Swanbury Best Team Man – Ryan Lymn

Goal Scorers – Glover 2, Boxer 2, Massie 2, Manual 1, Fantasia 1, Dawson 1, Mead 1, Ryan Lymn 1, Slivak 1, Murphy 1

Our next game is away against PAC, with probably a full squad (except for Tools) to select from and our other senior players returning last week being better for the run. It is going to be a game not to miss as it is again a very, very important game for us in the context of the season. We are looking forward to our next challenge and your continued support in this up-and-coming game. See you all then.

B Grade Report – Round 13

Great to get a win after weeks of disappointments. For most parts of the game we did have control but when challenged in the second quarter we responded positively which was encouraging to see.

I mentioned to the players before the game that this was a winnable game if everyone played their role by honouring and supporting each other, to the correct of the players they did this which played a big part in getting the desired result. Even though we had six players out through injury from last week’s game, we did shape up well, as we welcomed back from the As – Kane Cini, Dylan Fitzsimmons and Stuart Greenslade

In contrast to last week, it was difficult to pick best players as all players as mentioned played their particular roles and contributed well all day.

Players who typified that were – Daniel Cook who played at centre half back and closed his opponent down for the whole day – Tom Snowball on the wing continues his good form, Tom Bradford second half again was good, while Amer Elhosni first half was good in the forward lines putting pressure on their defenders plus taking some solid marks and kicking a goal. Joe Tarca and Jarrad Ball worked hard on the ball – Max Mckay and Sam Warren played good games in defence.

Jack Draper showed great leadership early in the game to man up on a dangerous TTG forward he shut him down immediately. Harrison Twiggs first half was spectacular taking marks and kicking an important goal, in the second half he fought on well despite carrying an injury. Fergus Kernahan again showed his class in the mid field he is getting better each week.  I have a great respect for the best two players who “parked” their disappointment at coming down from the A’s and performing at a top level. Dylan Fitzsimmons knocked up getting disposals in the mid field and Kane Cini performance in ruck was sensational.

Well done to all who played – you deserved the win – this will do our confidence a world of good for the remaining 5 games.

C Grade Report – Round 13

The C grade ventured back to the quarry for another big game, gullies who pushed the top side the week previous. 6 changes at selection and 2 players pulling out Saturday morning with Covid wasn’t a good start, and that’s how we started. Again, we were sluggish and couldn’t get going. Gullies certainly weren’t the side that we played last time we met. As a collective we had a very poor first half, except for Leggett who was magnificent.

The usual 1/2-time blast and magnet changes and we hit our straps. 28 points down we moved Justin McInerney to CHF and Dan Franzon and Tim Lewis lifted in defence. Gabe Burden and Jayden Smith along with Zac Aufderheide started getting the ball around the middle. Nick Schied continued his excellent form and we got ourselves back in a position to win. A shot after the 3/4-time siren would have put us 7 points down but it wasn’t to be. Unfortunately, we couldn’t maintain the rage and their two big forwards took control. Josh O’Leary battled hard up forward all day and our better players tried hard.

Final Scores:

ROCs 7.8 (50) - Def. by TTG 12.4 (76)

Best Players: Darren Leggett, Justin McInerney, Nick Scheid, Zac Aufderheide & Jayden Smith

Goal Scorers: Justin McInerney 3, Dylan Matthews 2, Darren Leggett & Josh O’Leary 1 each.
