A's B's & C's vs Glenunga; D's vs Uni and LOSA vs Modbury

A Grade Report – R12

The A Grade faced Glenunga away, who had beaten SPOC the week before who were top. We had five changes from last week with Dylan Reinbrecht, Fanta and Murph returning from injury, Fitzsy, Cini from work commitments and the 6ft 8inch ruckman Frane Babic debuting thanks to West Adelaide for this week. Going out was Brad Lymn, Tools, Wright injured, Jordan having a two-week spell! Tom Bradford unavailable and Mackenzie Best returning to the B Grade.

The first quarter was a tight hard fought low scoring game, with us unable to assert any control, even though we were winning the ruck dual and getting first use of the ball. Murphy was being held all the time at the contest and not getting any assistance from the umpires but still managed to kick our two goals.

Scores ROCS - 2.3 Glenunga - 2.3

The second quarter saw Glenunga getting on top playing a tight defensive game, with their forwards starting to look very dangerous as they took total control. It was our worst quarter for the season and the game plan and team structure needed a lift. They had nine scoring shots to our two with Murphy kicking our only goal but still receiving a lot of attention without any reward.

Scores ROCS – 3.4 Glenunga – 7.7

The third quarter saw the following changes to our team structure to help energise a better-balanced line up that could be more attacking on every line going forward, to allow Murph to be in a one-on-one contest in the forward line. We put Meady to the back pocket, McGuinness to the back flank, Dawson to the wing, McCullum on the ball, Cini to centre half forward, Fanta to the forward pocket and Boxer to the forward Flank. Glenunga scored the first goal, but from that point on the game was tight and hard fought but later in the quarter we could see the momentum slowly changing. With a goal on the siren by McGuinness the boys were up and about and knew that they were wearing them down and could win this game.

Scores ROCS – 7.6 Glenunga – 9.12

The fourth quarter was our best quarter for the year with everybody up and about. We attacked the ball hard and fast with quick entries into the forward line to Murphy. The reward for persistence and never giving up finally paid off in this quarter with Murphy kicking five goals and Reinbrecht one to lift the team to victory. This was a fantastic team effort and I could not have been more proud of each and every one of the players who played on this day. I would also like to thank our supporters for their support also; it is much appreciated by the players and helped us get over the line.

A significant highlight during the last quarter onslaught was the sensational mark taken by Jett Boxer on the eastern wing, it bought the crowd to its feet and helped lift his teammates around him. This win has kept our season alive and given our young group the reward for their efforts. We need to back this up next week against the Gullies at home.

Final Scores ROCS - 13.6 Glenunga - 9.16

Best Players – Nick Murphy, Daniel McCullum, Peter Vorrasi, Will Mead, James Warton. Best Team Man – Nicholas Karagich

Goal Scorers – Murphy 8, McGuinness 1, Warton 1, Baccanello 1, Fantasia 1 and Reinbrecht 1

Our next game is home against the Gullies and with more senior players possibly returning from injury, it is going to be very competitive for positions at selection. We are looking forward to our next challenge and your continued support in this up and coming game. See you all then.

B Grade Report Round 12.

We went to Glenunga knowing it was a winnable game.

Unfortunately, by the second quarter we were 3 players down, eventually ending with only 17 players.

With all this though it was a disappointing effort, we had our chances but our disposals and decision making let us down again, unfortunately it has been consistent this year.

Best players were somewhat difficult to find – but there was one exception to this as Tom Snowball effort all game was outstanding.

Good efforts from Jarryd Ball and Joe Tarca in clearances and contested ball was again typical from them.

Harry Twiggs works hard in the ruck and Ferghus Kernahan showed his class in his first B grade game this season.

Amer Elhosni continues to improve and kick two goals up forward.

Jason Cavuoto showed great courage to play on after taking a knock to the nose in the second quarter, plus Chris Ash again played on with a knee injury.

Final Scores  ROCs 4-3   Glenunga 9-4

Goal Scorers – 2 Amer Elhosni, 1 each Ferghus Kernahan, Chris Ash,

Best Players – Tom Snowball, Jarryd Ball, Joe Tarca, Harry Twiggs, Ferghus Kernahan, Amer Elhosni.

C Grade Report Round 12.

C grade again hit the road and traveled to Disney world. As usual we struggled to get going. Glenunga brought in a heap of kids, and they were certainly up and about early. We hung in there mainly due to the efforts of Schied in the centre and Burden taking charge of our back half. Kicking downhill we managed to get ahead of them by half time. The third quarter it was game on, a couple of quick goals by the opponent closed the margin and we certainly seemed flat. Wakeham was solid down back, and Ky Haddad scored some valuable goals. Nick Platten was always dangerous, and we welcomed Mitch Simpson back to the club for his first game this year. After a massive spray at quarter time, and three-quarter time the boys held strong, and we ran out victors by 6 goals. A win is a win but there is no rest as to make finals we must keep winning.

Goal Scorers: Nick Platten 3, Ky Haddad, Mitch Simpson and Josh O’Leary 2 each and Nick Scheid, Will Sullivan and Jules Tripodi 1 each.

Best Players: Nick Scheid, Gabriel Burden, Alex Wakeham, Ky Haddad and Nick Platten

D Grade Report Round 12.

ROCs Academy hosting Adelaide Uni at Roc Park presented our Squad with a great opportunity to keep our season rolling along in the right direction. ROCs were instantly working together as a team, linking up with run & carry, sharing possession moving forward & keeping the scoreboard ticking over . In a great start to the game kept our pressure & harassment on Uni to hold a handy lead at the first break. 1/4-time scores Rocs 4-3 vs Adelaide Uni 1-1.

The Red & Black machine kept its focus on the job at hand each quarter and efficiently held Uni at bay, increasing our scoreboard dominance each stanza to run away with a commanding win by 95 points. A great result by our Team made even more pleasing as our top 3 players on the day are in their 1st & 2nd years of their senior careers. LOSA - R12

Match Report v Modbury

Well done to the A’s, C’s and D’s on goods wins at the weekend. Especially the A Grade on an amazing last quarter comeback.

Unfortunately, we went down to a strong Modbury Team who were just too strong and experienced for the LOSA side we fielded on the day. With ten of our first team girls unavailable for all different reasons we were unable to stay with Modbury till the end. The girls who played on Saturday put in a valent effort and fort out the game right till the final siren. The final score was Modbury 5.4 to LOSA 3.2. There were some outstanding performances on the day. Firstly, Olivia Law who threw her body in all day at the stoppages and scrapped fought it out as she always does. The next to receive a special mention was Hannah Ellis. I gave her some instructions on where to stand at ball ups and boy did she really stepped up. From that point Hannah won the ball some eight or nine times and gave us some desperately needed clearances in the second half. Thirdly Georgia Saggese in defence was outstanding, Georgia took several very important strong marks and rebounded the ball on many off Modbury’s entries into their forward line. Second best was again Jana Ivancic who had to again ruck most of the day and at one stage took a heavy blow at stoppage but like a real trooper Jana brushed herself off and battled on. Finally, our best player in only her second game for the team was Annie Green. Her efforts on the day were both courage’s and Annie presented outstanding skills all around the ground.  Annie was another player who played nearly the whole game in the centre with little or no breaks.  So again, another great game Annie.

Plus, lastly a special mention to Poppy who had the task of standing Modbury’s best player who was by far the best player on the field. Poppy managed to contain her opponent with some really strong defensive work and hard running and restrict her from really taking us apart.  So well down Poppy on a strong gutsy performance.

The goals scores were Jazz 1 goal, Erin 1 and Annie 1.
