ROCS A's, B's & C's vs Brighton Bombers; D's vs Golden Grove & R10 LOSA
A Grade Report – R11
The A Grade faced Brighton Bombers away, who had won their last two matches against the top two sides. We had four changes from last week with Dylan Reinbrecht injured, Josh Bradford back to Norwood, Kane Cini and Dylan Fitzsimons out due to work. Coming in was Josh Massie returning from injury, Thomas Bradford for his second game, James McGuinness and Mackenzie Best debuting for their first game.
The first quarter was a contrasting game of defences with our backline defending well and our forward line missing opportunities. Brighton unfortunately was sharper around the ground near goal and got the ascendancy. Our forward line was getting plenty of opportunities with Jett Boxer working very hard and creating opportunities. Butterworth was in control in ruck and our centre line was working hard taking the ball forward. Scores ROCS - 1.3 Brighton - 5.3
The second quarter saw us claw back the score and get ourselves back into the game. Our defence was working well, and our forward line had plenty of opportunities. There were plenty of good passages of play, but we let ourselves down around goal. At the twenty-six-minute mark of the quarter we were only nine points down, but unfortunately a late goal by Brighton spoilt a solid quarter by us. Scores ROCS – 4.6 Brighton – 7.3
The third quarter unfortunately saw Brighton kick three early goals from quick ball movement into the forward line and being better positioned around ball to take advantage of any loose ball coming out of the contest. The rest of the quarter was hard fort, but Brighton missed many opportunities to put us away, but with two late goals, one on the siren by James Warton kept us in the game. Scores ROCS – 6.7 Brighton – 10.11
The fourth quarter was a hard fought contest early with Will Mead goaling at the seven minute mark but from then on Brighton got on top finding run and space, even though our backline was defending well, especially James McGuiness, who was taking everything coming his way and rebounding us forward but we could not find a clear passage to goal. Brighton put on five goals without a miss
Final Scores ROCS - 7.7 SPOC - 15.11
Best players were – Will Mead, James Butterworth, Charlie Jordan, Brad Lymn, Jett Boxer and James McGuiness. Best Team Man – Ryan Lymn
Goal Scorers – Mead 3, Ryan Lymn 1, Warton 1, Baccanello 1 and Massie 1
Our next game is away against Glenunga at Webb Oval for the first time, but with some senior players returning from injury, we are looking forward to the challenge and putting another win on the board. We need and appreciate all your support in this up-and-coming game.
See you all then.

B Grade Report
Going into the match we were again challenged with multiple changes, but to the credit of the players our effort was consistent all game and at times we had opportunities to win the game.
We will learn from this and I’m confident we can finish the year off well with this game to build on. On Friday night and we had players pull out and, in the end, played with 20 so the effort was even more meritorious.
Jarryd Ball was terrific in the middle and Jack Draper on ball, the both of them displayed great courage and ability to compete and tackle all game. Harry Twiggs display in ruck was terrific and backed up by Daniel Cook, both of these players were hampered by illness, but both showed tremendous dedication to play.
Beau Williamson down back again played well with some dashing clearances out of the backlines was good to see. Sam Hearn again featured in the best he is now becoming a very honest and reliable defender, since we put him back there several weeks ago.
Good efforts by Jason Cavuoto, Gabriel Burden and Tom Snowball even though did not make the best played good games.
I thank Jarrod Varley for accepting the late call up – he is truly a great clubman and was happy to help out. Also, a mention to Luca Piantadosi you made his B grade debut – he kicked the first goal of the match and could have kicked another two.
You can never be entirely happy with a defeat but considering the circumstances on the day I was proud of the group and look forward to the remaining of the season.

With every week being a danger game, we were on the road to Brighton and for some unknown the club doesn’t seem to travel well. Selection was its usual circus of 10 in 10 out and I made mention on Thursday if the playing group has heard of Panadol and Vicks vapor rub.
Anyways, we started very poorly even with the excitement of Josh O’Leary’s 150th game wasn’t enough to get us going. Brighton dominated the first half and we lost Spehr to concussion 10 minutes into the game. Down to one player on the bench due to a mix up with between myself and Jeb Nettle which was my fault, we only went in with 20 players. 2 late goals by Brighton really hurt us and at halftime we were in trouble.
As usual we had to throw the magnets around, Lewis went to CHB, Whitehead into Ruck, Clemente to Fullback. I thought our mids and backline stepped up well, but we couldn’t score enough to put them away. With 3 minutes left in the last we missed opportunities to hit the front with a shot on goal that went out on the full. They went back to kick a goal and the game was over.
Nick Schied and Julian Tripodi gave their all rotating in the mid and on the half back line. Ed Greenslade was moved to CHF was very good for us and Adam Whitehead took control of the ruck for us and was excellent. Ferg Kernahan was BOG by a mile and tried to will us a win. A very disappointing result but the most positive part of the game was the breakout performance of youngster Zac Aufderheide who played his best game all year and was sensational down back.

D Grade Report
Rocs Academy hosted 2nd placed Golden Grove in fantastic football conditions apart from a strong early southerly breeze favouring the Kookaburra's with Rocs kicking to the Guy Sebastian Memorial end of our home ground. Rocs were right up to the task in the early stages but couldn't find any avenue to score against the breeze, leaving the qtr. to be taken over by Golden Grove as they booted away from a desperate Rocs. 1/4-time scores Rocs 0-0 vs Golden Grove 5-2.
Trailing by 32pts the Rocs Academy were instantly back in the contest with some ascendency around the stoppages & finding better options moving forward to finally keep the scoreboard pressure on a scoreless Golden Grove. Rocs defence held strong and efficiently turned the game into a more even contest with the margin cut to just 6pts at the long break. 1/2-time scores Rocs 4-2 vs Gold Gr 5-2.
As expected, the Kookaburra's were exerting their physical attack on every contest putting enormous pressure on the Rocs, but the Rocs kept harassing & challenging every contest in a desperate 3rd term. However, as the qtr. ended Golden Grove had extended their lead to 27pts. 3/4-time scores Rocs 5-3 vs Gold Gr 9-6.
The final stanza was a dour affair with Rocs chipping away at the margin but were unable to take the game away from the Kookaburra’s, who were well held on the scoreboard adding just 1pt to their total. Great effort from Dillon Huppatz during the qtr. as he launched himself into the stratosphere to take back-to-back screamers exciting the crowd. Final score Rocs 7-3 def by Golden Grove 9-7.
