A Grade Report – R9

The A Grade faced Port Districts on Saturday at home. This was a very important game for both sides with us wanting to finish round one in the top five and Port in the top three. We had three changes from last week with Jack Draper and Jake Slivak debuting for their first game and Kane Cini coming into the ruck to replace the injured James Butterworth for his first A Grade game for the year. All three players earnt their spot after showing some good form in the B Grade.

The first quarter was a tight struggle with our backline doing a great job of cutting off their inside fifties and holding them to one goal. The forward line was looking dangerous and composed, with Fanta, Tools and Patty Dawson each getting good goals. We were on top in ruck through both Kane Cini and Brad Lymn and our strong centre line, Tim Baccanello, Will Mead, James Warton and Dillion Reinbrecht taking us forward.

Scores ROCS 3.2 Port 1.3.

The second quarter sore Ports work rate and intensity lift going with the breeze. They were stronger at the ball with their rucks getting on top giving them first use of ball, our backs and centre players had to work hard to defend and clear the ball out of their forward line. Unfortunately, we lost Fanta to a hamstring injury in the first minute and being our only tall key forward, meant that we had to reorganize our forward line. Port were on top in the air all over the ground but we battled on having our share of opportunities to kick goals, with many inside fifties late in the quarter. Port kicked three goals before we replied through Patty at the twenty minute mark. From this point on it was a battle of the defences until a late goal on the siren by the ever dangerous Tom Grey, who kicked three goals for the quarter.

Scores ROCS - 4.3– 5.5

The third quarter saw the rain come and the ground become very slippery, which turned the game into a tight physical battle making it hard to score. At the twenty minute mark of the quarter we lost Daniel Carbone to a hamstring injury, which was disappointing as he was holding down one of their key forwards. This meant that we were two rotations down going into the last quarter. This was setting it up to be a huge character building last quarter.

Scores ROCS – 4.4 Port – 6.6

The fourth quarter game plan was getting some quick goals to wrestle back the lead and then lock down the game. All players lifted especially our senior group to give us lots of opportunity to score without a lot of success. We kicked one goal one early, with serval other forward fifty entry opportunities for no result, which was very disheartening for all of the effort put in. Then from the sixteen minute mark of the quarter Port started to get on top and the momentum swung in their favour and goals became easy with Tom Gray for Port getting of the leash after being pretty well held all day.

Final Scores ROCS 5.5 Port – 12.10

Best players were – Tim Baccanello, Dylan Reinbrecht, Daniel McCallum, Kane Cini, and Will Mead. Best Team Man - Peter Vorrasi

Goal Scorers – Dawson 2, Fantasia 1, De Matteis 1, Warton

Our next game after the long weekend is home against Saint Peters on Ladies Day, which is another important game to win to start round two.We need and appreciate all of your support in this up and coming game at the Quarry. See you all then.

B  Grade Report - R9

We started the match in good style playing with a lot of intent and enthusiasm the scores at quarter time were even.

After quarter time slowly Port Districts got on top and ran out winners by about 6 goals.

At this stage of the seasons due to injuries and unavailability to players we are struggling to deliver four quarters of football, but I’m pleased with our efforts and persistence of this young group.

Again we welcomed a new player to the club a 2020 graduate – MacKenzie Best who performed well in his first game. Thanks to Chris Platten who presented MacKenzie with his jumper for his debut game.

Losing our two co- Captains in the last few weeks to the As – Dylan Fitzsimons and Jarrad Ball were named stand in Captains and both performed extremely well for us on the ball, the leadership bought the best out of them.

Joe Tarca continues his consistent form this year with another courageous game, Sam Hearn also followed up his good game last week with another fine display form half back. Olly Piro playing his second game for the Bs played well in the forward lines

Others to play well were Jason Cavuoto, Adam Greenwood and Tom Snowball.

C Grade Repot - R9

Firstly let me start by saying big congratulations to Jarrod Varley who played his 100th on the weekend. Jarrod has been a former captain and coach of the C grade and is a great club man.

We took on Port District a top end team in our grade in tough conditions but with some big returns we went in confident knowing we could put up a good fight. With a strong breeze going there way in the first quarter Port District came out with 3 quick goals and us struggling to convert. Second quarter is when we really turned it on and bounced back with 3 goals proving we could compete with them.

Unfortunately, this is when our strong performance ended and in the second the boys were out classes by a fitter and more skilful team. We’ll look to reset this second of half of the year and look forward to take on spoc.

Standouts were Amer Elhonsi who returned from and was sensational out the middle, Jack Hill strong down back, Gabe Burden continuing to impress, Jarrod Varley Mr 100 and Lachlan Spehr was great all game.

Port Districts 10-6-66 def ROC 3-4-22

The Rocs Academy travelled to Port.Districts this round after a belting last week.

Rocs had to respond with a much better effort against 2nd on the ladder Magpies.

Rocs kicked into a howler of a breeze to start preceding’s & were on the back foot straight away as Pt.District bustled & scrambled the ball forward to pepper the scoreboard, holding a 20pt lead in the blink of an eye. Rocs application around the stoppages & contested ball lifted as the game progressed, Rocs quick ball movement  with run & carry led to a fantastic goal, from then on Rocs matched Pt.District goal for goal and managed to lead by a point at the long break of a grueling contest .

1/2 tTme Scores - Rocs 5-6 vs Pt. District 5-5.

Heavy rain on-top of the bleak midwinter conditions had Pt. District hungry for the ball and totally dominated the 3rd quarter. The Magpies peppered the scoreboard once more to hold a handy 21pt lead going into the last stanza.

In the last quarter Rocs Academy lifted all over the ground and tried to mount a challenge with the final quarter ticking away Pt. District held gallant Rocs at bay to win by 13pts.

Final score Rocs 8-10 def by Pt.District 10-11.

Goalkickers - S.Marotti -2, D.Huppatz -1, A.Condo -1, W.McDonald -1, P.Norris -1, S.Bridge -1, A.Honner -1.

LOSA - R9

Loreto OS 01 03 (09) def. by Marion 03 03 (21)

It was a tough hard slog for the Losa Team this week in very difficult trying conditions against an improved Marion Football Team. We played on an unusual narrow ground which didn’t allow us to spread wide and with Marions bigger bodies we were over powered. I must give credit to Marion’s coach as he played two players back in each of the quarters we had the strong breeze. This tactic never allowed us any gain space or break though to have clear shots at goal. Overall the girls fort hard all day without reward on the score board. Up until the last five minutes of the final quarter were only a goal down but then Marion’s constant forward pressure eventually got the better of us and we  conceded a late goal which sealed our fate.

It was hard picking best player as it was such a difficult game to play in due to the conditions so therefore not many of the players could get into the game. In the end we settled on Madi Blacker as best on the day she was in and under fighting for every possession and was the stand out. Second best went to Emma Wycherley in defence her attack on the ball was outstanding and she repelled their advances into their forward line time after time. Third best went to Olivia Law like Madi Oliva was in hard at the ball all day especially at the stoppages which there were many. Forth best was our Skipper Amelia Rosella she played a real Captains game smashing through packs and fighting hard to win the contest time after time so well done Amelia and lastly our fifth best was Lucy O'Malley who played her heart out in the centre against great odds to win many hard balls and driving the team forward.

Only one goal kicker Mady Blacker with a great snap under pressure in the first quarter.

Final Scores were Marion 3.3 defeated LOSA 1.3

Goal Scorers: Madison Blacker 1
Best Players: Madison Blacker, Emma Wycherley, Olivia Law, Amelia Rosella, Lucy O’Malley
