A Grade Report – R8

The A Grade faced St Ignatius Old Collegian’s Football Club on Saturday at their new facilities at  Karen Rolton oval for the first time. We knew they would be desperate for a win as they were one win behind us on three wins and we were on four wins desperate to stay in touch with the top four sides and break away from the bottom four. We had one change from last week with Tom Bradford (twin brother of Josh) debuting for his first game, replacing the injured Jayden Gale.

The first quarter was an interesting and high standard game with ROCS having a slight breeze playing an attacking game plan. James Butterworth was in control in ruck, giving us first use of the ball, with our class centre players in Tim Baccanello, Will Mead, James Warton and Dillion Reinbrecht taking us forward. Our forward line was looking dangerous with Fanta, Murphy, Patty and James Warton giving us early goals. The backline was on top and keeping Iggies at bay to a modest score. Everybody was contributing across every line with Wrighty and Ryan Lymn controlling their wings, in what was a very strong first quarter. Scores ROCS 6.2 IGGIES 3.6.

Our second quarter was strong; with our defensive pressure elite and our linking up to carry the ball under pressure first class. Fanta was dangerous setting up lots of opportunities, with Jett Boxer giving us a vocal point at Centre Half Forward working very hard, but just not able to finish off his hard work in front of goals when he had the opportunity. We had contributors all over the ground. Our backline was holding strong with Peter Vorrasi and Hayden Swanbury in control. James Warton was getting plenty of processions all over the ground, with Boxer working very hard and Fanta on top, we were looking really good. Unfortunately we lost Murph with a calf injury early in this quarter after a solid first quarter, which was very disappointing. We were in control of the centre clearances and stoppages, with Butterworth on top in the ruck. Scores ROCS - 8.6 Tea IGGIES – 4.10

The third quarter was a tight struggle early, up to the twenty minute mark. Four late goals to Iggies and missed opportunities by ROCS saw the games momentum swing and IGGIES confidence and self believe lifted. This was setting it up to be a huge last quarter. Scores ROCS - 10.10 IGGIES – 10.11

The fourth quarter saw our early missed opportunities in the forward line and not getting free kicks that were there, not get the reward for our effort. At the sixteen minute mark IGGIES started to look dangerous and with two late goals sealed them the win. Final Scores ROCS 10.13 IGGIES 12.16

Best players were – Paul Fantasia, Peter Vorrasi, Dylan Reinbrecht, James Butterworth, Harry Wright, Tim Baccanello

Goal Scorers – Dawson 3, Murphy 2, Fantasia 2, De Matteis 2, Warton 1

Our next game home against Port Districts, which is another important game to complete round one. A good win would set us up for the rest of the season in the fight for a finals birth. We need and appreciate all of your support in this up and coming game at the Quarry. See you all then.

B Grade Report - R8.

We played the top side on Saturday and even though our effort was there we were beaten by a very good side. As for much of the season so far, we were exposed on the outside and when we had possession we could not get linked possessions to put pressure back on them.

We welcomed Tom Snowball for his debut game for the club and first time B grade player Olly Piro. Both showed encouraging signs and I’m sure these two players will be fine players for the club going forward.

Our better players came from our defence who toiled bravely all day – Max McKay and Jason Cavuoto missed the best players but both played their role down back well.

Jake Slivak played to his normal standard in the mid field and kicked two goals. Sam Hearn played well from the half back flank and Beau Williamson also did his job in the back pocket.

We may have found our Captain Jack Draper a new position as we threw him in the middle with good success and Joe Tarca in his 100th game for the club played his normal courageous game in the mid field.

Look forward to our next home game this week against Port Districts.

Final Scores ROCs 3-4  Old Iggs 13-8

Goal Kickers – Jake Slivak 2, Jason Cavuto 1

Best Players – Jake Slivak, Sam Hearn, Beau Williamson, Jack Draper and Joe Tarca.

C Grade Report - R8.

We put forward a great effort against Iggies. The score wasn’t reflective of our performance. The C grade lost seven players from selection to the start of the game. We went in with nineteen players with our opponents having twentyfour. Players such as Pistol Peter, Tom Evans, Ferg Shanahan, Jack Haddad responded to the call to arms and were fantastic for us. Even more impressive was Jack Munchinburg who got a call at 9am and gave his special breakfast up and arrived for us at quarter time.

In wet conditions the players gave their all. 15pts down at 3/4 time we thought we could climb the hill. Unfortunately we got overwhelmed and the score was the score. I cannot fault our commitment and I was very proud of the lads. It was a magnificent team effort by all but Franzon, Lewis worked hard all day. Our back line was the rock, lead by Hill and Burden and Frog Mcnamera.

I was very proud of the lads as we battled with injury, a fired up strong opposition and one bloke making decisions that were awful.

Final Scores - Old Ignatians 11-15-81 def  ROCS 3-3-21

D Grade Report - R8

Cold & wet conditions greeted ROCS & top of the table Old Iggies to ROC Park this round, as the Rocs Academy were severely affected by unavailability throughout the club.

From the first bounce Old Iggies took control of the game & handed the Rocs a football hiding, with a totally one-way exhibition of team play. When the Rocs tried to mount any challenge going forward, Old Iggies simply halted our forward movement and efficiently turned defence into attack with ease, booting goals from everywhere in a dominant display. To our players credit. Rocs Academy never gave up and tried their best to make a contest in a one-sided affair .

Final score Rocs 2-5 def by Old Iggies 19-18.
