A's, B's + C's vs PAC; D's v TTG + LOSA v Modbury

A Grade Report - R5

Round 5 saw the A-Grade preparing for Prince Alfred Old Collegians, the reigning premiers from the 2021 season. As always, players prepared for a terrific contest knowing that the current ladder means very little, and Prince Alfred are a very capable team with a proud history in recent years. With a fantastic crowd in support, Campbelltown Memorial Oval provided the perfect backdrop for a sensational game of football.

Early proceedings saw PAC in control, being far more clinical, free-flowing and attacking with their style. Although the midfield battle was relatively even, PAC were able to generate a number of scoring opportunities with their ball movement whilst Rostrevor hadn’t quite found their rhythm. After missing last week, both Lewis McCormack and Will Mead were having an impact early and played a part in the few opportunities that presented themselves in front of goal.

The beginning of the second quarter became a more even contest. Our midfield, led by Dylan Reinbrecht and Tim Baccanello were able to negate some movement from clearances and gain the ascendency led to an impressive 10-minute period in which Rostrevor gained a brief 3-point lead at the 15-minute mark. PAC responded in impressive fashion, arresting any momentum previously gained and piling on 4 unanswered goals, including a heart-breaking goal from stoppage on the half-time siren. As a collective, Rostrevor were unable to find consistent answers from clearances at stoppage, dangerous forward entries and rapid scoring which saw us concede a 3-point lead into a 20-point deficit at half-time.

The third quarter proved to be pivotal, with both teams relentless around the ball and giving their forwards maximum opportunities to impact the game. Our defence stood firm, with Matthew Dnistriansky growing more confident with every contest, and providing excellent structure and leadership behind the ball. Nicholas Murphy played a vital, yet uncommon role as a defender, which galvanized the entire team and emphasized the selfless approach that has become commonplace. Accountability at stoppages was first-class, with William O’Malley leading the charge with voice and direction whilst James Warton became very damaging both through the midfield and up forward. Had Rostrevor kicked more accurately at goal, they may have been able to hold a decent lead at three-quarter time.

The last quarter was a fierce and relentless period from both teams. With neither team giving an inch, and the rain increasing, it became a more physical and congested game where every metre counted. Scoring was scarce, and repeated efforts both at stoppage and efforts behind the ball from our defence, including the ever-reliable Peter Vorrasi, allowed our players to turn defence into attack. At no point was the last quarter a simple affair for either team, and it wasn’t until Jett Boxer rolled through a stoppage, collected cleanly and fed to Daniel Carbone who kicked truly on the run from 50m that Rostrevor began to rise. At the final siren, having absorbed plenty throughout the game, Rostrevor prevailed as very deserving 20-point victors with the score-line reading ROCS 11-15-81 to PAC 9-7-61.

The official best players from the day, in descending order were Tim Baccanello, Matthew Dnistrianksy, Dylan Reinbrecht, James Warton and William O’Malley – although countless others had many impressive moments.

Goal Scorers - Lewis McCormack 3, Tim Baccanello 2, Dylan Reinbrecht 2, Daniel Carbone 1, Patrick Dawson 1, Tullio De Matteis 1, James Warton 1

We now prepare for Goodwood Saints away, who again will provide all grades with a terrific challenge that we look forward to.

B Grade Report – R5

Playing PAC is always a challenge, so to get a win was very pleasing.

We started well and kept the effort up all day, although the margin was close, we always thought we had the game in our control.

Some really pleasing performances with Josh Massie showing how important he is to us with great clearance work. Chris Ash kicked 7 goals which was outstanding.

Joe Tarca, Nick Karagich and Jack Draper kept performing consistently.

Adam Greenwood continues to improve, and Tom Bradford played a fantastic last quarter when we lost Jake Slivak to a hamstring in the last quarter.

Jacob Scutella played his best game for the club and Brad Lynn coming from the A Grade played well as well.

Well done to the “A” Grade and LOSA on their wins.

ROC’s 8.8  def PAC 7.7

C Grade Report – R5

The C grade came up against the top of the table PAC this week and despite a solid effort went down ROCS 6.5 41 to PAC 12.11 83

The overall performance by the team was ok but despite a very good first and last quarter of the game, the 2nd and 3rd quarters were a letdown, for 5-10 mins of each quarter we let PAC gain the advantage. We will need to improve on our full game efforts if we are to be able to compete with the top sides this year. A few of the better players on the day were best on ground Tom O’Leary who was a standout playing both down back and in the middle. Another player who played down back and in the middle Nick Schied was again up there in the best. Jason Cavuoto was next best and lead the team well from defence. Sam Warren and Lewis Matsis both second year players where both solid across the field.

Goal Kickers: Lewis Matsis 3, Tom O’Leary 2 and Dylan Matthews with 1

Although we could not come away with the win, we now know what it takes to compete with the top sides and will look to turn it around against another high-quality side in Goodwood Saints this week.

D Grade Report – R5

ROCS Academy side travelled to Tea Tree Gully on a wet & wintery day , looking for continuing improvement in our team play & ball movement. Gullies had the first two goals on the scoreboard in the blink of an eye, with the ROCS steadying the ship, challenging & matching Gullies on the scoreboard during an entertaining first stanza of football.  QTR time scores Rocs 3-0 vs T T Gully 3-4 .

T T Gully increased their presence around the stoppages & easily brushed aside ROCS efforts over the rest of preceding’s, Gullies bombarding the scoreboard with relative ease booting 16-9 to ROCS 2-6 after the QTR time break. Final score ROCS 5-6 def by T T Gully 19-13.

Goalkickers - J. Huppatz -2, S. Marotti -1, T. Matsis -1, P. Norris -1.

LOSA Report – R5

Match Report v Modbury

Again, I would like to congratulate the A’s & B’s for their amazing performances at the weekend.

Congratulations also to the LOSA Team on their strong performance on Saturday in very wet conditions. It was our first game in the wet and the girls played like an experience side against Modbury Football Club who were favoured to win by the media. We gained a good lead at quarter time before the rain came, and from then on, we controlled the game and went on to defeat Modbury 6.5 to 3.4. Best players were Bella Simpson who was again clearly B.O.G.  followed by Madi Blacker, Hannah Sexton (Who played her best game for the season so far), Olivia Law (Solid as always) and Giorgia Ortel-Fantasia. A special mention to Jazz Obst who kicked her first goal from around 30m out, all the girls got around her to celebrate. It was a special moment.

Goal Kickers were Super boot Lucy Franzon 2 goals, Herde 1, Eliza 1, Winky 1 and Jazz 1.
