A's B's C's vs TTG - LOSA vs Pembroke and D's Bye

A Grade Report – R4

The A Grade faced an undefeated Gullies on Saturday at Pertaringa oval, so this was again going to be another tough challenge for us coming off a heavy defeat last week. All the same we matched up pretty well and with some strategic changes in our team structure to cut off their ball supply to their dangerous forwards, who have been putting other teams to the sword in past weeks, we were very confident that we would match them in every department.  With three good ins from last week to give us some flexibility, Josh Bradford returning from covid, Matthew Dnistriansky back from Norwood and Paul Fantasia from injury. Unfortunately, Lewis McCormack was ruled out with a corked thigh and Will Mead with covid.

The first quarter was a torrid affair with both defenses holding up strongly. Dan McCallum was leading the way at fullback, marking strongly, and rebounding into attack with the rest of the backline. They only got away from us for two minutes late in the first quarter when they scored two quick goals. Our forwards were busy with Paul Fantasia, Nick Murphy and Patrick Dawson having opportunities to score but were inaccurate. We were looking dangerous all over the ground and having our fair share of the ball.

Scores ROCS 1.4 Tea Tree Gully 3. 4

The second quarter was again a tight contest early, but we then started to get on top, drawing even on the score board with two minutes to go. Unfortunately, two late goals and a goal after the siren spoiled all of our good work on the score board. With good contributions on every line, every player totally invested and accountable we went into half time confident about winning the second half and the game.

Scores ROCS 4.5 Tea Tree Gully – 7.7.

The third quarter was again a tight contest early, with the Gullies scoring the first goal, but then we started to get on top on every line. Our forward line got busy with goals to Fanta, Dawson and two to Murphy. Scores ROCS – 8.8 Tea Tree Gully 8.10

The fourth quarter saw the Gullies respond with the first goal, but then we got completely on top with nine scoring shots to nil. Two goals to Nick Murphy, one to James Warton and Paddy Dawson put the game beyond doubt. Final Scores ROCS 12.13 Tea Tree Gully 9.10

Best players were Dylan Reinbrecht, Nick Murphy, Matthew Dnistriansky, Tim Baccanello and Hayden Swanbury.

Goal Scorers –, Nick Murphy 5, Paul Fantasia 3, James Warton 2, Dawson 1, Will O’Malley 1

Congratulations to the B Grade on their first come from behind win and the C Grade for their third win in arrow. Our next game is home at the Quarry against PAOC.  See you all then.

B Grade Report – R4

Again, we started the game well but as has been the case in previous two games we could not impact the scoreboard. Our clearances and inside 50 numbers were better than TTG but at half time we had no reward for our efforts.

Scores at half time was ROCs 1-3 to TTG 6-1.

After half time we kept the effort up, but the difference was our disposal by hand and foot and decision making improved sharply into our forward 50 and generally around the ground hence we were able to impact the scoreboard.

We threw Chris Ash up forward and got reward with him kicking 3 goals in the last half. Our mid-field performed well all game in particular Josh Massie Tom Bradford and Joe Tarca but their extra efforts in the last half was terrific.

Jarrad Ball also played well in the last half which was great to see. Our defence was solid all-day lead by Nick Karagich and Jack Draper.

We had solid contributors right across the ground – everyone played their part which was a big tick.

The players deserved the win as they have been working hard at training, we need now to build on this.

Elliot Shirley played his 150th, so it was fabulous to honour him with the win as he has been a great clubman over many years – Well done Shirls

Looking forward to our clash against PAC this week at home.

Hope to see you all there.

Best Players – Nick Karagich, Josh Massie, Joe Tarca, Jack Draper, Tom Bradford.

Goal Kickers – Chris Ash 3 one each to Jarrod Ball, Stuart Greenslade, Josh Massie, Jack Slivak, Tom Bradford and Lewis Matsis.

C Grade Report – R4

ROCFC 11. 12 – 78  TEA TREE GULLY 2. 3 – 15

Following an outstanding victory against Glenunga last week the C’s headed early morning to Petaringa Oval with high energy ready to take on the wolves. The first quarter began, and the lads started a bit slow conceding the first two goals and let TTG win majority of the ball with their short kicking game style, however we finished quarter time a goal up. We managed to keep them scoreless in the second quarter but poor kicking on goals cost us from stealing the game finishing only 17 points up. After halftime is when the boys really turned it on and understood that TTG’s game style would eventually crumble thanks to our pressure and our style of long kicking and free flowing football. TTG did not score for the rest of the game and we went onto a 63 point victory.

Overall was a strong performance by all players yesterday especially considering so many in’s and out’s this week. 5th best went to Sam Hearn who gave us great outside drive on the wing, 4th to Sam Warren who gave a sensational effort down back, 3rd Jordan Huppatz kicking two goals and good overhead, 2nd Amer Elhonsi played centre all day and was dominate out the middle. Finally, on return from injury Ferghus Kernahan was best player providing strength and rebounding pressure down back even being able to sneak forward and kick a goal for us.

Goal Kickers: Josh O’leary 3, Nick Platten 2, Jordan Huppatz 2, Jayden Smith 1, Julian Tripodi 1, Amer Elhonsi 1, Ferghus Kernahan 1

LOSA Report– R4 v Pembroke

Firstly, I would like to congratulate the A’s, B’s and C’s all winning.

After a superb performance against Marion at home three weeks ago we were confident of being competitive against the undefeated Pembroke FC. Sadly, before the game we lost Lucy O’Malley, Tilly Woods, and Elle Rudd, this effected our whole team balance. Despite the challenges we were extremely competitive in the first quarter only conceding two goals and were unlucky not to score a couple of times. Disappointingly we lost all structure in the second quarter and conceded 6.4 and we were over run.  Tony and I decided to go with a completely different line up and called upon the team to lift and be more committed, and to their credit they responded. We easily won the third quarter and finished off the last quarter with an incredibly robust performance. In the end the only difference between both sides was their finishing and experience. Otherwise, it was impressive performance from the team. The scores were Pembroke 11.6 to LOSA 1.1.

Our best performers were Bella Simpson who dominated in the centre and was clearly B.O.G. The other strong performers were Madi Blacker who we threw on the ball in the second half, and she blitzed it, Jana Ivancic who rucked strongly all day, Giorgia Oertel-Fantasia and Brigitte Cupkovic who both played well all day. There were also several other good performances on the day without mentioning any names, and dare I say all played well. Hard games like this help build team culture and experience for the future.

Goal Kickers: Eliza O’Leary
