A's; B's & C's vs Glenunga, D's vs Uni and LOSA Bye

A Grade Report – R3

The A Grade faced Glenunga at the quarry on Saturday, with Glenunga coming off a loss to St Peters by only 5 points, in a game they were unlucky to loose the previous week. So this was going to be another challenge for us, but we had evergreen Will O’Malley, Charlie Jordan back from injury for their first game & Dylan Reinbrecht returning from Covid lock down to strengthen our side with a lot of experience.

We lost the toss and kicked against a fair breeze in the first quarter to the northern end. Our defence held up strongly with Dan McCallum leading the way, with our forwards taking every opportunity to score, especially Lewis McCormack at Centre half forward, Nick Murphy at full forward and Patrick Dawson in the pocket following on from last week. They were ably fed by our centerline players and our rebounding backline. A commendable effort against a strong breeze.  Scores ROCS – 2.1 – Glenunga 3. 4

The second Quarter was a tight battle with the breeze, with Glenunga throwing everything at us up forward and defending very well. We managed to keep in touch due to some easy misses by Glenunga. Their Centre line & rucks were getting on top so we were happy to be in touch at half time with a chance to regroup. Scores ROCS 5.4- to Glenunga – 6.9.

We were completely dominated in the third quarter, with Glenunga finding the ball first and taking advantage of our skill errors and finished with great accuracy up forward. Even though we could get the ball into our forward line their defensive structure made it very hard for us to score and rebounded time and time again. James Warton was trying hard in the centre with Will Mead (playing his 100th game) to get us going but without success. Scores ROCS – 5.6 to Brighton 12.12

The fourth quarter was hard fought with our forward line working very hard from limited opportunities. Glenunga was far too strong and very well drilled. Final Scores ROCS 6.9 to Glenunga – 15.14

Best players were Dan McCallum, James Warton, Lewis McCormack, Nick Murphy, Will Mead, and Harry Wright

Goal Scorers – Dawson 2, Nick Murphy 2, McCormack 2,

Our next game is away to the undefeated Tea Tree Gully. We will respond to this challenge and look forward to your support in this away game. I will leave you with this passing Thought to our group, “If we are not winning, we are learning”

B Grade Report – R3

Firstly, well done the “Super Coaches” D grade and the C grade on their wins.

As last week we started the game with great effort and intensity around the ground. We won the first quarter 3.0 to 1.3 with our midfielders in particular Chris Ash, Joe Tarca and Sam Dubois supplying the forwards with opportunities, with good clearance work around the ground and centre bounces.

The second quarter we found it hard to defend as Glenunga took the momentum away from us.

Our second half was better and had changes to impact the scoreboard enough to put pressure back on our opposition but again we let ourselves down with shots for goals and general disposals around the ground missing targets with hand and foot skills. This is an area we are getting better at but still needs to improve.

Some encouraging efforts from Stuart Greenslade and Adam Greenwood who stuck to their tasks all game. We also welcomed back the return of Dylan Fitzsimons who showed his class with excellent skills.

Looking forward to TTG this week

D Grade Report – R3

The Rocs Academy travelled into the City parklands taking on archrivals Adelaide Uni. An early start on a fantastic day had a motley crew of 22 players donning the Rocs colours this round including debutants and returning regular stars giving Rocs a great chance to push for a rare victory over Uni.

Flying out of the blocks with attacking & quick ball movement the Rocs ran rampant in a fast-paced game, using the ball with telling positional forward entries & making the most of our opportunities to hold a commanding lead at the 1/4-time siren.  Scores Rocs 7-2 vs Adel Uni 2-2.  As expected, Uni made some changes to their line-up & quickly challenged the Rocs with 2 quick goals. Rocs application & endeavour never faltered & quickly regained composure forging back into control with plenty of second & third efforts in the tough contest by all the Rocs players. Rocs dominance around the stoppages & in forward entries held strong running out comfortable winners by 36pts.  Our first win of this campaign, the Rocs shaking the foundations of the old Uni changerooms singing our Club songs with plenty of gusto. Final score Rocs 12-16 def Adel Uni 8-4.
