A Grade Report – R2
The A Grade faced Brighton at the quarry on Saturday, with Brighton coming off a good win against Goodwood the previous week. The team had one debutant Josh Bradford playing his first A grade game after a great showing in the 2’s last week. So this was going to be another challenge for us, but we had Nick Murphy, Tim Baccanello, Daniel Carbone, Ryan Liam and Nick Karagich back for their first game of the year.
We started very well again in the first quarter and lead 5 goals to 1 early, with our forwards being very busy, especially Lewis McCormack at Centre half forward, Nick Murphy at full forward and Patrick Dawson in the pocket. They were ably fed by Will Mead, Tom O’Malley, and Tim Baccanello from the centre clearances with James Butterworth on top in Ruck. Scores ROCS – 5.5 Brighton – 1. 3
The second Quarter was a tight battle with Brighton throwing everything at us with the help of a slight breeze. The back line held up strong with Tullio De Matteis, Dan McCallum and Hayden Swanbury and the centre players defending very well by getting back into the backline to stop Brighton opening up their forward line. Scores ROCS-6-7 to SPOC – 4-7.
We got completely on top in the third term with winners on every line, with everyone contributing in some way or another. Our teamwork was A class with every player playing for each other at all costs. Ryan Lymn was on top on the wing, defending brilliantly with Lewis McCormack and Nick Murphy in the forward line. Scores ROCS – 11.9 to Brighton 5.8
The fourth quarter was hard fought with our backline repelling Brighton all the time with three late goals from Brighton flattering the score line. Final Scores ROCS 12-9 to SPOC – 8.13
Best players were Lewis McCormack, Ryan Liam, Tullio De Matteis, Tim Baccanello, Tom O’Malley, and James Butterworth with special mention to Will Mead, Hayden Swanbury, Dan McCallum, and Paddy Dawson for his 4 goals.
Goal Scorers – Dawson 4, Nick Murphy 3, McCormack 1, Mead 1, Warton 1, Wright 1, Ryan Lymn 1.
Our next game after the Easter Holidays is home to Glenunga. We look forward to seeing you at the Quarry.

B Grade Report – R2
Firstly, congrats to the A and C grade wins on Saturday and of course the Loreto girls for their first win.
We started our game with great intensity and pressure but unfortunately, we could not relate that to the scoreboard. We had enough opportunities all match but in particular the first quarter but our execution and decision making in our forwards half needs to improve, which I have great belief in our playing group that will happen.
Even though the opposition got hold of us in the second and third quarters we stuck to the task and outscored them in the last quarter.
Special mentions to Beau Williamson and Captain Jack Draper along with Kane Cini who toiled away in defence. Also, our two ruckmen did very well in Sam Dubois and Harry Twiggs.
We are a young group (9 players who have either come from school this year or last year in our side on Saturday), but the pleasing aspect is that they are willing to learn and I can see improvement in them.
Players that are in that category who played well were Adam Greenwood who shows great courage and determination plus Jake Slivak who showed us that he will be a fine player for this club, for as long as the wants.
Speaking of the young players congrats to Tom Bradford who made his debut for the club.
Another home game in two weeks which we are looking forward to.

C Grade Report – R2
ROCs 11-14 (80) def Brighton 7-10 (52)
Goal Scorers: Dylan Matthews 6, Vincent Clemente, Amer Elhosni, Luca Piantodosi, Nick Platten & Nick Schied 1 each.
Best: Nick Schied, Dylan Matthews, Amer Elhosni, Daniel Cook & Daniel Franzon.
Fantastic to start the club off with its first win. In very warm conditions we played a good outfit in Brighton but jumped them early and never lost control of the game. Our defence was solid all day, led by captain Tim Lewis and Riley Slack who played fullback for the first time. Dylan Matthews had 5 goals by half time and was a sensation up forward. Daniel Cook took apart his man mountain opponent in the ruck, and Amer Elhosni and Daniel Franzon were solid in the midfield. Nick Shied got control in the middle and lead us to a very pleasing victory.

D Grade Report – R2
ROCs 8-5 (53) def by Golden Grove 18-9 (117)
ROCs Academy on a road trip to take on C7 ladder leaders Golden Grove was our challenge this round mustering up 21 players including 5 debutants joining the ROCs family. Many thanks to 3 lads doubling up to complete our squad especially in the hot conditions. ROCs tried to match the Kookaburras in a fast-paced game of play on football & managed to stay in touch on the scoreboard during the first half. Both teams holding patches of dominance but ROCs burnt far too many forward entries limping to the long break in a fast paced and physical encounter. Half Time scores ROCs 5-5 to Golden Grove 7-4.
The second half was totally one-way traffic as the Kookaburras ramped up their presence around the stoppages & brushed aside any attempts the ROCs made of forward movement dominating the next 45 mins of the second half booting 11-5 to ROCs 0-0. A desperate ROCs finally hitting the scoreboard with the final 3 goals of a bruising encounter. Final score ROCs 8-5 def by Golden Grove 18-9.
ROCs have many positive points for our squad to reflect on over the much-needed Easter break that should have us refreshed and ready to improve over the next few rounds.
