R17 Coaches Report

A's; B's & C's vs Tea Tree Gully - D's vs Pembroke.

The top 3 grades were away to Tea Tree Gully - the D's were home to Pembroke.

Please see Coaches Reviews below.

Milestones : James Butterworth 150.

"Butters" played basketball at Rostrevor, as well as some football and cricket. He represented the Hectorville FC in the North Eastern Metro Junior Football Association, before making his ROCS debut in 2013.

He was unavailable for the 2017 Grand Final, but has continued his improvement, and has developed into one of the competition's best ruckmen. He is capable of also holding down a key defensive position.

Kieran Holland looks set to play his 200th this round, and Dylan Fitzsimons his 50th.

The A/B/C grades are at Brighton this week, and the D's are home to University, in the last game of the minor round.

A Grade Report - R17

The A Grade faced Tea Tree Gully up at Pertaringa Oval on Saturday and the boys were really keen to bounce back from a very poor showing the week before against SPOC.

We started really well around the football and not for the first time this year, should have been much further in front at quarter time.

Our skills by hand and foot again weren’t up to the standard we expect, continually wasting opportunities and turning the ball over in dangerous situations.

Our lack of polish was the main reason we weren’t able to win the game, as we certainly found enough of the football.

Better players for the day included Dylan Reinbrecht,  Charles Jordan, Stefan Lanzoni and Daniel McCallum.

This year certainly hasn’t gone to plan and as coaches we take full responsibility for not getting the best out of the playing group.

With one game to go at Brighton this week, we will be looking to go out with a strong performance. Again I would like to congratulate James Butterworth on 150 games for the club. A fantastic achievement from a fantastic servant.

B Grade Report - R17

The B Grade got over the top of TTG, final scores:

ROCS: 13.4-82
TTG: 8.2-50

It was a fast start to the game which saw us play some of our better footy all year, capitalising on plenty of opportunities to hit the scoreboard as well as restricting the opposition to just one scoring shot to half time.

We would have liked to finish off the match better however the damage was done early in the game, ultimately setting up for what was a comfortable victory in the end.

T. McCormack was dominant for most of the game, particularly early - ending up with 7 majors despite often being double teamed. He was supported by N. Karagich who kicked 3 himself and helped set up multiple more for his team mates, A. Greenwood’s forward pressure was also a highlight in our forward half.

J. Draper was at his combative best down back managing to stop the opposition from scoring on numerous occasions. J Duperouzel and C.Ash continued their very consistent form this year benefiting from the dominance of S. Dubois in the ruck.

We look forward to continuing the momentum and finishing off the year on a positive note next week when we face Brighton.

C Grade Report

It was a tough day for the C grade with only 17 players taking the field due to injury and illness. This resulted in a 13.8 86 to 3.4 22 defeat.

Despite the numbers, all who took the field gave it one hell of a crack but unfortunately just ran out of legs. Congratulations go to Zac Aufderheide, Jack Thoday and Fergus Shanahan on making their debuts for the C grade on the weekend. With the absence of our captain Tim Lewis, Kane Cini was named captain on the day and was also named best on ground. Kane has continued to be a dominate force for the C grade throughout the year. Second best was Harry Carter who in the first half repelled many attacks in defence. Daniel Leonard was our third best on the day, another defender who didn’t give up and attacked the footy hard. Ben Davies was our next best and only has got better as the year has gone on. Will Sullivan was our 5th best. Tom Warren was our best team man and pretty unlucky not to make the top 5.

We play our last game of the year this week against Brighton. Hopefully we will have more than 17 players and put in a good performance to round out a challenging but rewarding year for the young side.

D Grade Report - R17

Under the pump this week as the Rocs hosted Pembroke OS , with a ground maintenance issue delaying the start by 20 mins & only 16 players available(+ 4 that played 2 games) had the Rocs Academy line up champing at the bit to atone for last week's trouncing from SPOC.

The Rocs were quickly into top gear and with a dominant on ball division playing with teamwork and cohesion launched attacking drives continuosly forward with only some errant shots on goal holding the Red & Blacks from booting a huge total.

Rocs backline held up many of the King's forward entries, led by Frog McNamara & The Duck Dzido, Rocs generated many attacking plays with run & carry backed up by high pressure teamwork to give our forward line a plethora of chances & the Rocs forwards spread the goals evenly between themselves. Rocs continued holding sway until  the 3/4 time break scores Rocs 12-9 vs Pembroke 2-10.

The Rocs were tired & weary starting the last term & the King's pounced early to kick 4 quick goals but Rocs continued holding on & ran out comfortable winners by 34pts. Final score Rocs 13-10 def Pembroke OS 7-12.

Best players: R.McNamara, S.Tagg, T.Whittle, A.Cream, F.Shanahan.

Best team man: J.McInerney.

Goalkickers: S.Marotti 3, A Cream 2, P.Norris 2,T.Whittle 2, R.McNamara 1, S.Tagg 1, H.Twiggs 1, J.Thoday 1.

Great games by the Senator (Pat Moller) Pointer (Dylan Pointon) & Tom (Evolution) Evans assisting team mates around the ground and having important touches when needed in a great display.
