ROCS vs Brighton triple-header & D's vs Uni

After solid wins in all 4 grades last week, ROCS faced Brighton at home in the triple-header, and Adelaide Uni away in the D Grade.

Please see Coaches reports below.

Milestones : The consistent Kane Cini plays his 50th this Saturday.

The frequency of 50 game milestones so far this season is a good sign for the club, as it strives to increase its experience base in all grades.

This week the A/B/C grades meet Port District away. The D's are at home to Flinders Park.

We are fast approaching the half-way mark of the season, and wins before the bye are at a premium for all teams.

A Grade - R7

The A grade played Brighton at Campbelltown Oval on Saturday. Brighton was in good form coming into the weekend and sat just above ROCS on the ladder.

ROCS started fast with Luke Manuel kicking 2 (could have been 3) goals in the first quarter. At quarter time ROCS lead 4 goals 3 behinds to Brighton's 6 behinds. In the second quarter, Brighton got their game going and closed the gap to 7 points at halftime. ROCS also suffered injuries to both Will O'Malley and Lewis McCormack during the second quarter. After halftime, ROCS were able to control the game and ran away 25 point winners in the end. It was a solid effort by the payers, considering the injuries sustained during the game. The best players included Luke Manuel with 5 goals, Daniel 'Wario' McCallum was solid down back and Tim Baccanello through the midfield found a lot of the ball.

ROCS A grade still find themselves in a logjam in the middle of the ladder, sitting on 4 wins and 3 losses for the season. This coming weekend the A grade will face Port Districts at Largs Bay in what should be a tight contest based on the recent form of Port District. Look forward to seeing you all there! Murphy.

B Grade Report - R7

The B Grade were gallant in defeat going down by one point to the undefeated Brighton. Final scores: ROCs 9.9.63 Brighton 10.6.64

In a closely contested game Brighton capitalised whilst going forward better than us which ultimately decided the game.

Captain for the day Nick Karagich lead from the front and was our best player, kicking two goals. Jarrad Ball was outstanding sweeping up down back and gave huge effort when in the ruck. Sam DuBois came into the side and dominated in the ruck in particular at stoppage giving first use to Chris Ash who also kicked 3 goals and Joe Tarca who continues his outstanding form.

Special thanks to bench support Ryan Holm and David Moyle for their valuable contribution.

We will dust ourselves off and look forward to the challenge this weekend against Port Districts.

C Grade Report - R7

For the first time in 2021, the C Grade managed to secure back to back wins in a 12 point victory over Brighton. 9.6 to 7.6

After another shaky start which seems to be our habit this year, the team once again managed to bounce back in the second quarter and effectively level things up at half time. A couple of master stroke moves by Assistant coach Tony Franzon to start the second half resulted in the boys getting on top in the second half despite some nervous moments in the last quarter, to run away with the win.

Best on ground went to our ruckman once again Kane Cini who spent all day rucking, dominating his opponents across the field. Not too far behind was Jayden Smith who has found a spot on the wing with his run and delivery of the footy but also this week his aggressiveness. We welcomed back Luke Allen  from a few years away from the club and it looked like he hadn’t missed a beat running rampant in the midfield. Another first year player at the club Ben Holman was next best down in defense where in the first half especially was reading the play and taking plenty of intercept marks. Our Captain Tim Lewis who was one of the master stroke moves by Tony was our 5th best after a move from CHB to CHF and managed to kick a few goals. Best team man went to Lewis Matsis who once again provide plenty of spark from the half back line.

Goal kickers where Dylan Matthews with 4, Tim Lewis and Tom Matsis with 2 and Henry Warren with 1.

We head down to Port Districts this week to face a massive challenge against the second ranked opposition. It should be a good contest and look forward to seeing the men carry on the moment we have built over the last couple of weeks.

D Grade Report - R7

Rocs Academy side clashed  with the unbeaten Adelaide Uni in a contest that had the Team well behind the competition leaders before the game had started. Rocs had only 18 players suit up as the heavy injury toll & unavailability throughout all grades affecting out team selection.

To our players credit we took the fight up to Uni in the first stanza  with Uni holding a 6pt advantage at the break. Rocs 1-2 vs Adel Uni 2-2.

Many thanks to the Rocs C grade players that came down to help out , giving us some relief to rest our tiring lineup during the 2nd qtr. Unfortunately Adel Uni lifted their workrates to produce a runaway 90+ pt victory as the gallant Rocs never stopped trying but were ultimately outclassed overall. Final score Rocs 4-7 def by Adel Uni 19-11.

Our main engine room deserve credit this week working tirelessly against overwhelming odds led by Acting Captain Sam Tagg with Justin McInerney, Patty Russo & Anthony Cream giving their all for the Red & Blacks. Also the C grade Cavalry Tom & Louis Matsis, Tom & Sam Warren & Jack Munchinburg all had an impact playing 2 games of pressure footy on the day.

Best players: S.Tagg , D.Cook, P.Russo, H.Carter, M.Zamparelli.  Best Team Man - J.McInerney.
Goalkickers: H.Twiggs 2 , Z.Aufderheide 1, T.Matsis 1.
