Finals Week 3 - Prel. Final

ROCS vs Payneham Norwood Union - Preliminary Final

In a disappointing end to the season, ROCS were defeated by Payneham Norwood Union in the Preliminary Final, at Payneham Oval : 14.11 to 19.9.

ROCS controlled the game for the first half. Up 4.3 to 2.2 at the first break, ROCS extended the lead to 27 points at half time ( 9.7 to 5.4).

After scoring the first goal in the second half, we soon saw our lead quickly disappear, as Payneham NU began to dominate the centre clearances and play with greater confidence around the ground.

Down by 4 points at three-quarter time ROCS struggled to stay in touch, and were eventually beaten by 28 points.

Paul Fantasia was our best, covering a lot of ground and providing a target up the ground. Tullio De Matteis continued on with his excellent form in the finals. Luke Manuel (3 goals) has played well all season, and this match was no exception. Craig Holm always plays well in big games and once again tried hard to get the team over the line. Dan McCallum has had a consistent year and was high in our best players. Captain James Jordan led from the front with his attack on the ball.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who have helped out with Match-Day Operations in 2019, with special mention for the outstanding efforts of Dean Lord and Bob Sutherland.
