A Grade
ROCS bounced back from last week's loss to defeat Payneham Norwood Union, at Payneham : 6.7 to 3.8. (Half-time 5.4 to 2.4). Importantly, ROCS opened up a 19 point lead at the first break, and in very wet conditions, continued to match PNU's efforts in the next 3 quarters.
Our better players included Daniel McCallum, Will O'Malley, Will Mead, Sam Jonas, captain James Jordan who played his best game for the year, Tullio De Matteis and Kieran Holland. Heath Commane (2 goals) was the only multiple goal-scorer for the game. The team welcomed back Lewis McCormack from injury, and congratulations to Josh Massie who made his A Grade debut for the ROCFC.
This Saturday ROCS are away to last year's premiers Tea Tree Gully. With only 2 points separating the second and sixth teams on the ladder, this game looms as another very important encounter. As always, the players will greatly appreciate your support. You will also have the opportunity to be among the first to see the new away strip.
B Grade
Damien Polkinghorne's side left their run late, but still managed to get over the line in the wet conditions at Payneham Oval. Final scores: ROCS 7.9 PNU 6.12. At 3 quarter time ROCS had trailed 3.7 to 6.12.
Best players included Zac Noonan (Best on ground), Elliot Shirley, Chris Ash (2 goals), Jack Draper, Matt Leigh and Joe Tarca. Others to play well included James Telfer, Dylan Fitzsimons and Ferghus Kernahan. The team will be looking to continue their winning streak against Gullies on Saturday.
C Grade
In the early game, the C grade got away to a good start, and ran out comfortable winners: ROCS 10.9 to PNU 4.5. (Half-time 6.2 to 1.4). Julian Tripodi again provided plenty of drive, as well as kicking 2 goals. Tim Lewis was impassable.
Riordan McNamara, Lachlan Spehr and Dan Franzon all had very good games. Isaac Ivancic and Max Lawrance chipped in with 2 majors apiece. In what is a very tight competition, coach Mark Twiggs has had the team playing consistent footy all season, and is well-placed in the run in to the finals. Sitting in third spot, ROCS face Tea Tree Gully (5th) at Pertaringa Oval on Saturday.
D Grade
The D's were at Park 25 against Old Iggies on Saturday, and came away with a win : 5.11 to 5.4.(Half-time 3.5 to 2.2). The win puts ROCS 2 games clear in third spot, and now face Payneham Norwood Union, at Payneham Norwood Union 2:15pm on the weekend.
Steve "Supercoach" Edwards' best players on Saturday included Sam Bridge (best on ground), Thomas Matsis, Riley Slack, Luke Skoblyk, Anthony Cream and Michael "Irish" Brennan. Captain Paul Norris was the major goal-kicker with 2.
*** It's that time of the year where traditionally clubs struggle for numbers, and credit goes to all the coaches for still managing to field teams that have been successful most weeks. ***
Milestones
Club Captain James Jordan is due to play his 150th game this weekend against Gullies. Throughout his career, Jim's attack on the ball has been second to none, and he continues to set a great example to all players at the ROCFC. Congratulations to Jimmy on reaching the milestone.
