A Grade Report - R8
The A grade boys secured their first away win of the season against University on Saturday. We started strongly in the first quarter but missed quite a few easy chances in front of goal (2.5) which kept University in touch at the break.
Paul Fantasia (3 goals) and Michael Coad (4 goals) were well on top up forward and Tim Baccanello and Daniel McCallum were winning a lot of their own football through the middle of the ground but again a few missed opportunities kept University close enough at the main break.
University started the third quarter strongly and actually hit the front early in the quarter but from that point they didn't kick another goal and we took over the game. Our back 6 were again very impressive and made it very hard for University to score. Will Mead and Anthony McCarthy laid plenty of strong tackles, Ben Jonas and Charles Jordan were impassable and Kieran Holland provided plenty of run.
We were really dominant in the last quarter and I was very pleased with how we ran out the game. Patrick Dawson ended up with 3 goals and could have had at least 2 more, while Tulio Dematteis gave us plenty of drive from his wing. We have now put two games together going into the bye and have set ourselves for a big second half of the season.
Congratulations to Heath Commane who played his 100th A grade game for the club on the weekend. Heath has been an exceptional player and very funny character to have around the club, winning the goal kicking title every year he has played.

B Grade
ROCS had an important win against Adelaide University on the weekend. In a evenly matched clash, ROCS ran out victors 7.11 to 6.8, and are now just out of the 5 on percentage, with 4 wins and 4 losses.
Chris Ash was outstanding once again. Harry Simpson and Jason "LeBron" Cavuoto continue to improve. "Jose" Tarca and Jackson Sutcliffe have been important all season, whilst Josh Massie played his best game for the club. Coach Damien Polkinghorne and his players will enjoy the week off before meeting ladder-leader Henley.
C Grade
In a hard fought match, ROCS ran out winners : 11.6 to 8.13 (Half-time : 6.5 to 4.7). Tom Matsis was a stand-out with his 4 goals and several goal-assists. Carlton Hollsten (3 goals) provided a focal point. Jarrod "The General" Varley worked hard all day, as did Lachlan Spehr and John McCarron. Mark Twiggs has the team in third spot, having won 6 out of their 8 matches. The next game is at home against Henley on 15/6.
D Grade
ROCS celebrated Steve "Super Coach" Edwards's 200 game as coach, with a resounding 16.10 to 6.5 victory against Prince Alfred, at Campbelltown Memorial Oval. (Half-time: 9.4 to 4.2).
Better players included Anthony Cream, Max Lawrance, Hamish Massie, Nick "Bang Bang" Bartold with 5 majors, skipper Paul Norris and Jeremy O'Leary (4 goals). The team goes into the break sitting in third spot of the Club 18 ladder, with 5 wins and 3 losses. The next match is the twilight clash at the Quarry - 4.45 pm versus Modbury.
Milestones:
Congratulations to Stevo “Super Coach” Edwards on coaching his 200th club game on Saturday. Stevo has seen many ROCS highlights, including the Division 1 G/F victories in 2013 & 2017, the B’s Premiership in 2015 and his finest coaching achievement - the 2013 C Grade Premiership.
This is Stevo’s 11th year in coaching, starting in 2008 and taking 2010 off "on football studies". The legendary Stephen Harby holds the record for most years as coach at ROCFC. Our history records shows him in charge of 13 teams at the club -beginning in 1981, with his last stint in 2000 (B Grade premiership). In 1982 Harb’s coached the D’s and C’s in the same year.
Congratulations also to Heath Commane on reaching his 100 game milestone on the weekend. A popular member of the team, "Heater" was part of the 2017 A Grade flag, has kicked almost 400 goals since transferring from Barossa District, and has led the SAAFL Div 1 goal-kicking in 2014, 2015 and 2018.
Good luck to Luke Manuel who is in the SA Adelaide Footy League State Squad that is due to play AFL Queensland, in Brisbane, on Saturday.
