ROUND 6 Reports
D Grade
The D's faced a tough task against top side Tea Tree Gully, at the Quarry. "Supercoach" Edwards and his team gave it their best shot, but came up short : 6.8 to 12.8 (Half-time scores : 2.4 to 6.4). Anthony Cream (ex-Kenilworth) was rated our best player. Other players to have good games included youngster Hamish Massie, evergreen Sam Bridge, the skilful Michael Trevarrow, and Tom Carpinelli with 3 goals. The experienced Anthony Medhurst was named Best Team Man. The D's sit 4th on the Club 18 ladder, and this week are away to Adelaide University (6th).
C Grade
Coach Mark Twiggs would have been hoping for a solid performance against the Brighton Bombers, at Brighton Oval, and was not disappointed. After opening up a healthy lead at half-time (6.5 to 1.9), the C's went on to record a strong win (9.11 to 3.14). Jake Bowler put in a classy performance. Matthew "Butch" McPeake was solid, Justin McInerney controlled the rucks, Riordan McNamara played his best game for the year, whilst John McCarron provided plenty of run and kicked 2 majors. The C's are also 4th on the ladder, and this week have a big home game against Goody Saints (10.15 a.m.) Vice-captain Carlton Hollsten is due to play his 50th ROCS game.
B Grade
The B Grade were chasing another 2 points, after their great performance against Port District the previous week. Unfortunately, that was not to be. After an even first quarter, ROCS were eventually defeated 6.8 to 13.7. The ever reliable Chris Ash was our best performer, followed by Adam Richter who is having a good season. Darren Leggett was very good until injured. Jackson Sutcliffe and Lachlan Ball were our best 2 big men. Damien Polkinghorne and the B Grade players now meet Goodwood Saints, and a win on Saturday will help keep ROCS in touch with the top 3.
A Grade
The A Grade travelled to Brighton to face an enthusiastic newly promoted home side. Whilst we led at half-time (4.5 to 2.13), the Bomber's poor kicking at goal obviously hadn't helped their cause. ROCS extended their lead to a couple of goals at the last break, and then scored first in the final term. To their credit, Brighton fought back and ultimately won the mach : 11.12 to 11.21.
Patrick Dawson almost got us over the line with his 5 goals. Coach Will O'Malley set a fantastic example, attacking every contest as if it were his last. Sam Jonas was impassible. Tim Baccanello provided plenty of drive, especially early. Dan McCallum was strong and determined, whilst Tullio De Matteis and Will Mead also had good games. Congratulations to Nick Karagich and Matt Leigh on playing their first ROCS A Grade game. Next game is against Goodwood Saints at home -a big challenge for ROCS to get back into the winner's circle.
See you there !
