Week 2 Finals
Div 1 Second Semi-Final / D Grade Grand Final Report
D Grade
After winning 9 games in a row, ROCS were attempting to win their first ever premiership at D Grade level. In perfect conditions, and in front of an enthusiastic crowd, ROCS were defeated by a very strong PAOC line-up : 5.6 to 18.5.
Better players included Will Sullivan, Riordan McNamara, Harrison Twiggs (3 goals) and skipper Dan Franzon. The team has surpassed all expectations in 2018. The club acknowledges the great efforts throughout the season of Coach Mark Twiggs, his Team Manager Steve Russo, the support staff, and each of the 54 players who represented the ROCS D Grade.
A Grade
Having had a week off, the A Grade played Tea Tree Gully in the Second Semi-Final, at Daly Oval. ROCS were slow out of the blocks, but managed to be only a couple of goals down at quarter-time. We led at the main break, and again at three quarter-time : 9.4 to 7.8.
However, we were then trounced in the final quarter, eventually losing the match 9.4 to 10.16. Acting-captain Jimmy Jordan was named best, and was followed by Sam Jonas, Tullio De Matteis, Luke Manuel, Michael Coad and Kieran Holland. James Butterworth tried hard in his 100th game.
Next week the team gets the chance to rebound in the Preliminary Final

Upcoming Milestones :
Tim Baccanello/Daniel McCallum are due to play their 100th this weekend. Having already played First XVIII for the school, Tim Baccanello and Daniel McCallum joined ROCS in 2013. "Spud" and "DMac" had also played U/18's and Reserves for Sturt and Norwood respectively, with DMac also having had a stint with Sturt in 2012. The pair had immediate success at ROCS, and were integral members of the team's first Div.1 flag in 2013. Tim also shared the premiership experience with his older brother Peter.
In 2015 Dan and Tim represented South Australia in the AAFC Carnival in Hobart. SA had its first National Carnival win since 1985, and Tim was named in the All-Australian Amateur team. In 2017 they played in another Div 1 premiership, and it is fitting that they reach the 100 game milestone on the same day, and in such an important fixture.
