Week 1 Finals & D's into the GF
B's Elimination Final & D's into the GF
With the A's having the week off, the attention turned to the D Grade (Preliminary Final) and the B Grade (Elimination Final).
D Grade
Mark Twiggs took his young squad to Morgan Oval (Pulteney Grammar) where they faced Payneham Norwood Union -a team they had lost to by 107 points the last time the teams had met. ROCS got away to a good start in the first quarter, and led by 3 goals at the first break. However, PNU gradually pegged ROCS' lead back and hit the front in the last quarter. After a tight tussle, the final scores were ROCS 10.10 PNU 9.8.
Jack Hill played his best game for the club, and was best on ground. Harry Simpson continues to play great footy. Tom O'Leary and Sam Bowler provided plenty of drive, whilst Luke Turner and Glenn Castellano put in impressive performances. Harrison Twiggs kicked 3 goals.
The D's are now off to the "Big Dance" and will meet Prince Alfred OC at the Daly Oval
(Hectorville Sports and Community Club), at 12.00pm.
It has been an incredible ride for the ROCS D Grade, and we encourage all ROCS fans to show their support in Saturday's Grand Final.
B Grade
ROCS played Port District in Saturday's Elimination Final at Payneham Oval. In a disappointing result we were defeated 10.6 to 13.5. Ferghus Kernahan was inspirational. Zac Noonan and acting-captain Chris Pahl showed their class and experience around the ground.
John Harrison was dangerous up forward in his last game before moving to Sydney, and Elliot Shirley was rock-solid in defence. Whilst it was clearly not the way coach Damien Polkinghorne would have wanted to end the year, Saturday's side contained 8 players who have joined ROCS this season after completing Year 12 in 2017. These players, and the ROCFC, will be better off next season for the experience gained in 2018.
** On Thursday night, Harry Simpson was runner-up in the C6 Association Medal, polling 14 votes in as many games, and just one vote behind the winner. Dylan Fitzsimons (10 votes) finished equal 4th and Chris Pahl (9 votes) equal 7th, in the Div 1 Reserves medal count.
The Div 1 medal winner will be decided on Monday, September 10 **
The A Grade will play Tea Tree Gully in the 2nd Semi-Final
at Daly Oval, this Saturday, at 2.15 pm.
