Round 15 Report

Triple Header vs Port Districts & D's vs Uni

The ROCS A, B and C's were engaged in a tripleheader against Port Districts, at Thebarton. The D Grade were at Foxfield for their clash with Adelaide University.

D Grade:

After getting away to a very good start, the D's won their round 17 match comfortably : 11.11 to 4.9. Harry Simpson was again best on ground. Others to play well included Riordan McNamara, Jordan "Tank" Kelly, Justin McInerney, Sam Moten and Luke Turner. Dan Franzon was named the Best Team Man. The victory consolidates the team's spot in the final five, with only one week of the minor round to go. It has been an excellent effort thus far by all involved in the D grade, and especially coach Mark Twiggs. Next week ROCS meet North Haven at Foxfield Oval.

C Grade :

The C's had hoped to reverse the result of the previous time the teams met, but unfortunately that wasn't to be, ROCS going down 4.8 to 15.6. Skipper Matt Sauer was named best again, and others to try hard were Sam Bridge, Jeremy O'Leary, Kane Cini, Jordan Zoia and Ben Dinneen. Congratulations to Bridgey on reaching his 150th game for the ROCFC. The C's have to win their remaining three games (away), and hope the other results go their way, for them to make the finals. The first challenge will be this week at Modbury.

B Grade:

The ROCS B's drew with Port District, 6.9 apiece. In a hard fought match, the best players were Jack Draper, Connor Deegan, Peter Vorrasi, Joe Tarca, Jackson Sutcliffe and Dylan Fitzsimons. The D1R ladder is still very congested, with ROCS in third position. This week they are away to Modbury. Well done to Mick Aloisi on reaching his 150 game ROCS milestone.

A Grade :

Whilst the A's had plenty of the ball against Port District, the disposal efficiency was poor and the result disappointing : 5.8 to 8.5.  Sam Jonas was outstanding, Tullio DeMatteis and Tim Baccanello were constructive, and Ben Jonas and Michael Coad (3 goals) tried hard. Will Mead was the Best Team Man. With 3 games of the Minor Round to go, ROCS have a 3 point buffer on second, but obviously still have work to do before securing the Minor Premiership. This Saturday the team meets Modbury, away.

Training this week will be: Tuesday at the school, and Thursday at Thebarton Oval.

Upcoming Milestones :

Kieran Holland is due to play his 150th game for the ROCFC this Saturday, against Modbury. "Dutchie" first played for Rostrevor College in 2001 (Year 5) and progressed through to the First XVIII in 2008 (Year 12). He also played juniors for Payneham/Norwood Union, beginning in the Under 11's and finishing at Under 16 level. During his period with PNU Kieran played in 6 Grand Finals, winning 4 Premierships. Kieran also played Under 17's for Woodville-West Torrens in 2008, and Under 18's in 2009/2010.

After a taste of ROCS footy during 2009, when he played 4 B Grade games and 1 in the A's, "Dutchie" quickly developed into a reliable, rebounding defender. In 2013, he was a key member of the ROCS first ever SAAFL Division 1 premiership team. He was named in the SAAFL Team of the Year in 2013 and 2014. In 2014 he also represented the SAAFL against SA Country, and the SAAFL U/23's against the WAAFL. Playing predominantly as a tall defender, Kieran has been given some tough tasks over the years, but has come through with flying colours and established himself as one of the premium defenders of the competition.
