Round 14 Report
A's B's & C's vs Henley & D's vs Mawson Lakes
ROCS had mixed results on the weekend.
A Grade
The A's travelled to Henley, and could not have been more impressive. It would have been difficult to find a passenger, and the 23.12 to 5.9 final score, was a fair reflection of the difference between the two sides, on the day. Skipper Will O'Malley led the way once again. Tim Baccanello was impressive around the ground, Doug Hadden (4 goals) was a welcome inclusion, Pat Dawson and Tullio De Matteis were again creative, whilst Ben Jonas worked tirelessly. Sam Jonas was the Best Team Man, and tall forwards Heath Commane (6), Michael Coad (4) and Paul Fantasia (4) provided great targets. This week we are home to Port District, and the team is looking forward to the opportunity of reversing the Round 7 disappointment of losing the game, after leading by 5 goals in the last quarter.
B Grade
A poor patch in the third quarter probably cost ROCS the game against Henley. We were eventually beaten 9.8 to 12.3. Despite the loss, the team remains in second spot, and obviously in a good position to control its future. Dylan Fitzsimons and Peter Vorrasi were our best, and used their pace and skill to advantage. Lach Bowler showed he is more than capable of playing well at this level, whilst Mitch Warren and Chris Pahl were again amongst our best. Special mentions to Jackson Sutcliffe, Scott Gilbert, Elliot Shirley and Liam Holland (4 goals). This week the team is home to Port District who are out of the 5, yet only a game and a half behind ROCS on the table.
C Grade
Unfortunately the C's were simply outclassed in Matt Sauer's 200th game. Congratulations to Matt on his milestone game, and it was fitting that he was named our best player on the day. Despite the final score-line of 1.4 to 23.9, the team had many players who tried hard all day. These included John Harrison, Jason Cavuoto, Kane Cini, Simon Emanuele and Jack Pick. "Supercoach" Edwards and the players have plenty to play for this weekend. They will kick off the tripleheader at Thebarton at 10.15am, only half a game outside the 5, and keen to atone for its 10 goal loss the last time the 2 teams met.
D Grade
The D's were too good for Mawson Lakes (23.17 to 5.1), and have now set up a season-defining clash against Adelaide University this Saturday (1.00pm start, at Foxfield). Captain Dan Franzon was best on ground, and others to play well included Luke Turner, Harry Simpson, Vincent Clemente, Justin McInerney and Angus Slack. Vincent Clemente and Harrison Twiggs bagged 6 goals each. The side is in 5th spot, on equal points with Adelaide University who are in 6th position, with 2 minor round games to play.
Upcoming Milestones:
Mick "Schlick" Aloisi is set to play his 150th game for ROCS against Port District this Saturday. He played First XVIII for Rostrevor College, and was a member of the Norwood Under 19's in 1999. He progressed to the Norwood Reserves (2000-2003) , and In 2001 played in the U/18 State Championships for NT Thunder. Mick suffered a serious knee injury during the 2002 season whilst playing for ROCS, and later in his career spent more time on the sidelines with an ankle problem. Despite the setbacks, and stints at Mt. Lofty and South Clare, Mick has persevered at ROCS, and now reaches a well-deserved milestone. A strong and aggressive ruckman/forward, the 35 year-old adds valuable experience and enthusiasm to the young B grade group, and has been more than serviceable in his cameo appearances for the A grade this year.
