Round 11 Report

A's, B's, C's & D's vs Payneham Norwood Union

ROCS were back at Thebarton Oval on the weekend for a tripleheader against Payneham Norwood Union. The D's were at Payneham Oval.

A Grade

The A's kicked into the breeze in the first quarter, and after a slow start, went into the first break 0.1 to 2.6. The second quarter was far better, and at half time ROCS were up 4.4 to 2.7. The second half saw ROCS take control of the game, and  eventually run out comfortable winners 12.10 to 4.10. Daniel McCallum and Jack Nelligan were outstanding. Tullio De Matteis and Tim Baccanello continued on with their fine form, and others to impress at different stages included Pat Dawson, Heath Commane (5 goals), Charlie Jordan, Will O'Malley, Sam Jonas, Jim Jordan and Ben Jonas. The club has next week off in all the grades. Coach Adrian Rocco has the A's sitting on top of the ladder, and ready for the run home to the finals. Charlie Jordan is set to play his 100th game, straight after the break. 33 players have already represented the club at A grade level in 2018 - 1 more than last year. The recent registration of Ben Moyle brings the total of ROCS "Active Players" to 140.


B Grade

ROCS had a narrow victory in the B Grade : 8.11 to 8.4. The win puts the team in second spot with 8 wins/3 losses, and only percentage separating first from fourth. Captain Tom O'Malley was best on ground. Peter Vorrasi was excellent. Scott Gilbert was high in the best players once again. Jackson Sutcliffe continues to improve. Sam Tagg, Chris Pahl and Liam Holland (4 goals) all had good games. Coach Damien Polkinghorne would have been happy with the 2 points, whilst aware of the even tougher encounters down the track. So far this season the B's have used 39 players. 

    
C Grade

"Super-coach" had a spring in his step after the C's emphatic win on Saturday. ROCS 20.11 defeating PNU 1.2. Paul Norris kicked 4, Steve Marotti and Ben Dinneen 3 each. Ben Dinneen was named best, followed by Daniel Baillie, skipper Matt Sauer, Steve Marotti, Jordan Zoia and Sam Bridge. Connor Deegan made his first appearance for the season. The team is sitting just inside the top five (5 Wins/5 Losses) , and will now have a couple of weeks off.


D Grade

ROCS D grade was easily defeated by PNU 1.4 to 18.9. Harry Simpson was again our best, and others to play well were Max Tarca, Jordan Kelly (1 goal), Brodie Turner, Glenn Castellano and Matthew Del Corso.The team remains in 6th spot, and face Elizabeth after the bye.


The ROCFC would like to acknowledge the fine work of all our Match-Day Officials, and in particular the time volunteered by Dean Lord and Bob Sutherland. These gentlemen are invariably called upon to fill the roles of MDO/Timekeeper from 10.15 am. on Saturdays, and are still helping out well after all the games have been completed, late Saturday afternoon.
