Round 10 Report
A's, B's & C's vs Uni & D's R11 vs Old Iggies
ROCS were away to Adelaide University this weekend in grades A, B and C. The D's were at Park 25 against Old Ignatians.
D Grade
Coach Mark Twiggs was happy with the team's effort, despite eventually being beaten by Old Iggies 6.4 to 10.8 (Half-Time 1.2 to 4.5). The best players included the usual suspects Harry Simpson and captain Dan Franzon, Angus Slack, Max Tarca, the improving Riordan McNamara and the consistent Will Sullivan. The team remains in 6th spot, and this week have another important away clash, against third placed Payneham Norwood Union (2.15 pm). After 10 games, 49 players have represented the club at D grade level -with only Dan Franzon and Fergus Shanahan playing in every match.
C Grade
The C's were not able to repeat last week's heroics, and were beaten by a solid Adelaide Uni outfit : 2.3 to 11.16. Dylan McPeake was our best, and John McCarron was close behind, followed by skipper Matt "Tabasco" Sauer, Ben Davies, Kane Cini, Tim Lewis and Ben Dinneen. It was great to see Kristian Burchett play his 50th game for the ROCS on Saturday. The club has no one more enthusiastic or competitive than the "Good Doctor Barnard". "Supercoach" Edwards has also selected 49 players this season, and will be hoping most of these will be available in the coming weeks. The team has a must win match against Payneham Norwood Union this weekend (10.15 am, Thebarton).
B Grade
Down on personnel, the B's struggled manfully, but were eventually defeated by University : 7.6 to 11.12. Chris Ash was named best, and others to impress were Nicholas Scheid, Peter Vorrasi, Josh O'Leary, Joe Tarca and Scott Gilbert. Goal-sneaks Adam Richter and Jack Tagg scored 2 each. The team is still reasonably positioned in third spot - 2 points from top and 2 from 7th. "Polky" will be hoping to have some players back this week for their home game against PNU.
A Grade
The seniors faced a danger game, away to Adelaide University. In perfect conditions ROCS defeated the Blacks 11.8 to 9.6. The team set up the win with a 6 goal second quarter - Half time : 8.5 to 3.2. Nathan Surman continues to improve and was our best player. Dan McCallum had another fine game, Michael Coad (4 goals) provided a safe route to goal all day, James Jordan (also Best Team Man) was very important in key moments of the game, Tullio De Matteis was constructive and Patrick Dawson was classy - "Paddy's" last quarter goal was particularly memorable. Aided by results at other venues, ROCS now enjoy a 3 point buffer at the top of the table. Coach Adrian Rocco will be looking to return to some sort of training schedule normality in coming weeks, and now turns his focus to last year's Runner's-up, Payneham Norwood Union (2.15pm, Thebarton)
The Club encourages the ROCS Community to come along and support all our teams this weekend.
