Round 5 Report

Round 5 for the A, B and C grades, and Round 6 for the D's

This weekend was Round 5 for the A, B and C grades, and Round 6 for the D's. ROCS had a day out, winning all four matches.

A Grade

Adrian Rocco's men were forced to work hard against a determined and enthusiastic Athelstone, at Athelstone. Away to a sluggish start, ROCS went into the quarter time break trailing 1.2 to 3.1. A better second quarter saw ROCS lead at half time: 6.5 to 5.5.Final scores were ROCS 12.10 Athelstone 7.6.

Craig Holm was outstanding. Daniel McCallum and skipper Will O'Malley were solid, Paul Fantasia (4 goals) was dangerous, and Andrew Bachmann played his best game since joining the club. Others to play well included Flynn Pisani, Jack Nelligan, Kieran Holland and Jim Jordan. Next week the team is at Thebarton/Aldi Oval against Henley, the other newly-promoted club.

ROCS Ladies Day / Night


B Grade

Once again the B Grade was involved in a nail-biting finish, eventually winning the encounter 8.6 to 7.9.
Tom O'Malley's start to the season has been excellent, and he was again our best player. Adam Richter's form continues to improve, and his 3 goals were invaluable. Dylan Fitzsimons played his best game for the club, and Scott Gilbert was again a major contributor. Mitchell Warren showed plenty of promise in his first B Grade match. Next week, coach Damien Polkinghorne will be looking for an even better performance against second-placed Henley.

C Grade

"Stevo, Super-coach, Cat Boy" Edwards has had no luck over the years against the Raggies on their home deck, but that changed on the weekend. After an impressive first half, which saw ROCS lead 6.1 to 1.4, we managed to hang on, and win 7.3 to 6.6.

The strong Nathan Czernich (2 goals) was selected as the best player, and others to play well included Josh O'Leary, Justin McInerney, Dylan McPeake and Jack McCarron. Other multiple goal-kickers were Paul Norris (2) and Jeremy O'Leary (2).

 Next week the C's meet top side Henley, at Thebarton Oval. Get there early to see club stalwart Paul Norris play his 250th.

D Grade

This Saturday was Modbury's turn to face the might of Mark Twiggs' boys, at the Foxfield Fortress.  Final scores were ROCS 19.18 to Modbury 1.2. Max Tarca was best, followed by Harry Simpson, Dan Gilbert, Glenn Castellano and Jean-Pierre Terreux. Vince Clemente and Dan Gilbert led the goal-kicking, with 3 goals each.The side is now in third spot on the C6 ladder, and are home again next week against Mawson Lakes.

Thus far this season, the club has played 113 players - 35 for the first time. At this early stage, all four sides are sitting in the top five.
