Round 2 Report
R2 vs Payneham Norwood Union - A's, B's & C's & R3 for the D's
ROCS won all 4 games against Payneham Norwood Union on the weekend.
The D Grade won a hard fought contest on the Foxfield Oval, 10.14 to 7.9. Best Players included Lachlan Bowler, Oliver Bowler, Will Critchley, Mark De Lisio and Sam Newman. Daniel Franzon continued with his good form, and Ryan Tarca was again amongst the goal-kickers. It was just reward for new coach Mark Twiggs and his players, who next week are due to face Edwardstown.
The team has shown steady improvement in its first 3 games of the year, and are looking forward to their first away game of the season.
The C's were comfortable winners against PNU, at Payneham Oval : 14.12 to 8.5. Darren Leggett was best on ground, with numerous effective disposals. Club games record-holder Simon Emanuele, turned back the clock with a vintage "Simmo" 4 quarter effort. Nathan Czernich was strong and creative, whilst Paul Norris (3 goals) was a dangerous forward. Others to impress were Joe Tarca, Kristian Burchett and Kane Cini.
Steve "Super-Coach" Edwards and his team now face Goodwood Saints at Thebarton/Aldi Stadium, in the early game of next week's triple-header.
Whilst not as impressive as in round one, Damien Polkinghorne's B Grade did enough to defeat PNU : 9.11 TO 7.12. Amongst the better players were Nick Scheid, Chris Ash, Sam Tagg, Tom O'Malley and Trent Versace. Liam Holland booted 3 majors.
"Polky" will be hoping to bolster the squad, for this week's clash against Goodwwod Saints.
In the re-match of the 2017 Grand Final, the A's had a resounding victory: 16.18 to 8.7. On a ground where the A's have had little success in recent years, Adrian Rocco's team were somewhat lacklustre early, but eventually showed glimpses of its true capabilities - particularly in the third quarter when it kicked 5.10 to 0.1.
Luke Manuel and Daniel McCallum were outstanding, Nathan Surman was solid in defence, whilst Tullio De Matteis and Tim Baccanello provided plenty of run and carry. First year players Flynn Pisani, Patrick Dawson and Lewis McCormack were impressive, as were Craig Holm and Heath Commane (5 goals).
The ROCS A, B and C 's will be looking for plenty of support in this week's triple-header against Goody Saints.
