Round 1 Report

It was Round 1 for the A, B and C Grades & R2 for the D's

Last week the ROCFC played a D grade game for the first time since 1997. Played at Foxfield Oval, the team put up a strong performance, and were far from disgraced, finally being defeated 6.11 to 12.7. Under new coach Mark Twiggs, 10  players represented the club for the first time.

Some of the better performers included Justin McInerney, Dan Gilbert, Will Sullivan, Nick White, Lachlan Bowler (2 goals), and Dan Franzon. Ryan Tarca provided a good target up forward kicking 3 goals.

The D's were at Foxfield again this weekend, for their "home" game against Old Ignatians. Another 3 players made their ROCS debut. The team was eventually narrowly defeated 6.6 to 8.10.

Better players included Justin McInerney, Matthew McPeake, Sam Millard, Josh O'Leary, Anthony Onofrio and Dan Franzon. Next week the D's are home to Payneham Norwood Union.

It was Round 1 for the A, B and C Grades.
The triple-header at Thebarton Oval  was against Adelaide University, with the C's kicking off proceedings. In wet and windy conditions, the C's were impressive early and could have been further ahead at quarter time, but for inaccurate goal-kicking. Uni were able to get back into the game however, and ROCS eventually went down 4.8 to 6.11. Captain Matt Sauer was our best, Adam Richter was impressive around the packs, and Harrison Twiggs, Damien Moyle, Michael Boffa and Jarrod Varley (50th game) also played well.

The B's, with 9 debutants, proved too strong for Adelaide University. Up 3.4 to 0.1 at quarter time, ROCS went into the main break with a 3 goal lead, and after a solid third quarter, went on to win 11.12 to 5.7. Lewis McCormack (4 goals) was best on ground, closely followed by Scott Gilbert, Patrick Dawson, Lachlan Spehr and Nick Scheid. It was a promising display from the young line-up.

The A's kicked into a strong breeze in the first quarter, and were down 2.0 to 6.1, at the end of the term. However, in the last 3 quarters, ROCS outscored Adelaide University 15 goals to 3, and ran out comfortable winners 17.11 to 9.3. Heath Commane (5 goals) was best, Daniel McCallum and James Jordan were excellent, whilst other better players included Tullio De Matteis, James Butterworth and Craig Holm.

Congratulations to Andrew Bachmann, Doug Hadden and Flynn Pisani, who all impressed in their first ROCS' A grade match.

This Saturday the club has a triple-header at Payneham.

See you there.
