Round 11 Report

ROCS vs Payneham - Round 11

ROCS travelled to Payneham Oval for their Round 11 clash versus Payneham Norwood Union.

The C's dominated after an even first quarter. Leading 9.6 to 3.2 at half time, the Red and Blacks stretched the lead to 62 points at the main break, and ran out eventual winners : 19.13 to 4.6. Trent Versace was named best, followed by the consistent and reliable John "Spos" McCarron. Blake Mios (4 goals) was a dangerous goal-sneak, whilst Mick Aloisi was a focal point, kicking 5 goals and assisting in several others. Simon Emanuele in game "300 and plenty", showed there's still some miles left in his aging legs, whilst Sam "Motor" Moten snared three crowd-pleasing majors late in the game. Congratulations to Steve Marotti on playing his 50th game. Next week the C's travel to Modbury, in a top of the table (10.15 am)clash, which may well decide the minor round premiership.

The B's faced a danger game against fourth-placed Payneham. ROCS got on top early, and maintained their dominance throughout the match. Like the C's in the earlier game, the B grade played an attractive brand of football. Up by 19 points at half-time, ROCS went on to win the game : 14.16 to 4.10. Jack Nelligan was outstanding, Zac Noonan and Chris Ash were very high in our best players once again. Mitchell Sutcliffe, Nathan Hornhardt, Ben Yates, Adam Richter and Connor Deegan, were all  very impressive. It was an important win for the B's, as it consolidated   second spot on the ladder, and kept the team in touch with top side Adelaide Uni.

The main game saw ROCS meet a Payneham Norwood Union side determined to stay in the finals race. As it turned out, PNU were far more desperate and outplayed us for most of the day. We were eventually beaten: 8.14 to 16.7. Our better players were Ben Jonas,  Braden Allen, Will O'Malley, Michael Coad (5 goals), Tullio DeMatteis, Kieran Holland and Jimmy Jordan. Sam Jonas played his first game for the club. We retained top spot, as a result of Tea Tree Gully also losing on the weekend.

ROCS now meet TTG on the weekend, with both sides keen to atone for this week's losses. It will be our last home game for quite some time, and we hope to see all ROCS supporters attend the top of the table clash.
